DESCRIPTION:

Sweet Adley was picked up as a stray by animal control and brought to a shelter where she waited for someone to claim her. When no one came, an animal control officer contacted MAGSR to see if we could help this lovely lady find a home that would provide her with the love, attention, and safety that she so clearly deserves. Adley is a beautiful girl who could use a little extra care as she was clearly used for breeding, it is evident that Adley has endured some hardship. However, she is ready to move forward with a family who will love her and provide her with the guidance and leadership that all shepherds crave. Adley will do best with an experienced GSD household that will take a leadership role with her. She is a young dog that is a very active and strong-minded girl that will benefit from training as it will help her bond with her new family, as well as, become a good canine citizen. If this energetic girl sounds like a good match for your household, please ask to meet her today.

DESCRIPTION:

Kota and her best buddy, Birch, were found wandering around in the south. Although the two dogs were wearing identification, when animal control contacted their family, they were told that the dogs were no longer wanted. As this friendly pair deserves to be loved and cared for in their golden years, our friends at animal control called and asked if we could welcome this pair into the MAGSR family.

Kota and Birch are a bonded pair and rely on one another for safety and comfort. Although they were tossed aside by their former family, they remain sweet and loving dogs. Currently residing with a fantastic foster family, Kota and Birch are moving forward with the comfort of soft beds, good food, and the attention they deserve. Although we are still getting to know this lovely pair, it does appear that they have previously lived in a household and do know some of the general household expectations. As we learn more about Kota and Birch, we will provide updates. If you can provide this special pair with the loving forever home they so clearly deserve, please ask to meet them today.

Update: Kota and Burch are very calm loving dogs. They walk nicely on a leash and are house broken. Birch's favorite thing is to relax with his people and Kota loves ear scratches. Birch provides a sense of safety and Kota provides a sense of calmness for one another. They both get along with the resident dogs in their fosters house and are happy to hang out with them. Kota and Birch arrived at MAGSR from the south the day before Thanksgiving. It was a very special holiday for them because there was food in their belly and a warm soft bed to sleep on. Upon rescue they appeared older than they truly were. A MAGSR vet estimated Birch between 3-5 and Kota between 5-7 years old. They are currently working on gaining weight and strengthening the muscles that were not used as much as needed. Birch has tested heartworm positive as we are seeing more and more due to lack of heartworm preventatives, however MAGSR has already started him on his treatment program and will cover the entire cost. Please donate if you can. If you have room in your home and want a wonderful bonded pair, their foster would love to tell you all about them.

Captain and MAGSR thank these Sponsors for their generous support:

DESCRIPTION:

Captain found himself at a local shelter when he began getting nervous around the toddler in the household. Although Captain never tried to hurt the toddler, the family felt that it was safer for all involved to rehome Captain. Having spent his entire life with his previous family, Captain is a little unsure about all of the sudden changes in his life.

Captain is a playful, ball driven guy. Having lived in a household his entire life, Captain is housebroken and crate trained. He also knows some basic commands. As is true of most shepherds, Captain can be protective of his people and will need to learn to trust that his new family will set him up for success. Training will be an important part of the bonding process for Captain and his new family. Captain is looking for a forever home that will commit to him for a lifetime. Could that be you?

Update: Captain is a smart and playful guy who had the benefit of participating in a board and train program at Stateline Canine. MAGSR is so very grateful to Stateline for all that they have done to help Captain further develop into a good canine citizen. Captain moved directly from his board and train program into a foster home so that he can further develop his skills in a home environment. When he moves into his forever home, Captain will have lifetime access to Stateline Canine for skill refreshers. Captain's foster family adores him. He provides them with endless entertainment and antics. As your typical shepherd, Captain prefers to be with his people at all times and will watch and wait for them if they leave his presence. Housebroken, crate trained, and knowing his basic commands, Captain understands the basic rules of a household but does best with a strong, confident handler. Although Captain could play ball for hours every day, he also enjoys some cuddles. Unaware that he is a big guy, once comfortable, Captain does think he makes the perfect lap dog. That is if you prefer not to feel your thighs for long periods of time. He is also the master of a good face wash and will happily assist you with taking care of any leftover crumbs. Captain is a special guy who is looking for a household that is experienced with the breed. Good with dogs and cats, Captain enjoys the company of other animals particularly when clear expectations are in place. He will meet with greatest success when provided with the structure and leadership that all shepherds crave. If Captain sounds like the right match for your household, please ask to meet him today.

DESCRIPTION:

Charlie was a stray to shelter and sadly no family came looking for him. The shelter staff noted him to be super friendly and good with other dogs. We are just getting to know Charlie, but our volunteers have reported that he is a total sweetheart that eagerly sat for his treats and took them gently. We have seen no aggression out of him towards other dogs including the resident little dog in his overnight foster home. Additionally, Charlie was also noted to be gentle with the resident ten year old child during his stay. We know Charlie's past may not have been the best but that has all changed now that he is with MAGSR, we will make sure he finds a loving and caring family that can provide him a home, a comfy bed, good nutrition and care.  If you think you would like to add Charlie to your family, please apply today.

DESCRIPTION:

Sometimes we all need a Christmas miracle and for Courage that miracle couldn't come soon enough. Courage was found near a vacant building with significant wounds to his paws and legs. Based upon his injuries, Courage was likely hit by or tossed from a car. In need of immediate care, he was quickly brought to a shelter for help. Shelter staff did everything they could to help Courage, but they recognized that he needed additional help from a private vet and fast. When a plea went out for help, MAGSR stepped in to grant Courage's Christmas wish.

Courage is in a significant amount of pain. However, he remains gentle and friendly. At this time, Courage is unable to bear full weight on one of his back legs and has several deep wounds on his legs and feet. These wounds look infected and are significantly impacting his ability to move easily. Fortunately, MAGSR has a phenomenal vet working with Courage already. He is getting x-rays completed, wound care, antibiotics, and pain medication. Over the next few days we will have a better idea of the full extent of Courage's medical needs. However, no matter what the prognosis MAGSR will be by his side every step of the way. Although Courage will receive all of the love and care he needs to recover, MAGSR needs help making his Christmas wish come true. Please consider donating to his care so that MAGSR can continue to help dogs like Courage this holiday season.

Crimson is a beautiful and intelligent girl. She gains confidence from a calm and stable handler. DESCRIPTION:

Crowley's family made the difficult decision to return him to MAGSR, when Crowley was unable to adjust to living with the resident cats. As he moves forward, Crowley would do best in a home without small animals as his prey drive is simply too strong for them.

Crowley is your typical intelligent, playful, protective, energetic young shepherd. He is a busy guy who will do best in a home where both his mind and body are exercised regularly. Both housebroken and crate trained, Crowley understands the general rules of the household; however, all young dogs will try something from time to time. Having had the benefit of some training, Crowley knows basic commands such as, sit, down, drop it, leave it, and release. Although Crowley has already begun some training, it is essential that this continue as it will help him bond with his new family. If Crowley sounds like a good match for your household, ask to meet him today.

Update: Crowley is enjoying his first week with his foster. Crowley is housebroken, crate trained, and loves his doggy beds. He loves belly rubs & back scratches. He's very quiet in the house, easy to walk and likes to be close to his foster. He listens and knows a lot of his basic commands. Crowley is patiently waiting for us forever home.

DESCRIPTION:

Sweet Eugene was picked up as a stray by a local shelter. Although his family was found, they no longer wanted him. Without anyone to claim him, Eugene was left to wait for a new family. MAGSR heard Eugene's story and knew he deserved to move forward with a new family that would commit to him for a lifetime.

Eugene is a friendly guy who likes to talk about his day with his people. Curious about the world around him, Eugene likes to keep himself busy. Eugene is lucky to have moved directly into a foster home where he will learn all about the joys of having a home of his own. As we get to know Eugene, we will post updates on his adventures. If Eugene sounds like a good match for your household, please ask to meet him today.

Update: Eugene is an absolute sweetheart of a dog and is a classic energetic GSD. He loves to snuggle and is always down for pets. He is a dream on a leash, walking without much pulling at all and showing no reaction to barking dogs in the neighborhood. He loves to play, be it a ball or a rope. Did I mention he loves balls? He really loves chasing balls! He's a strong chewer, managing to cut a thick rope in two while our back was turned, so tough toys are a must. He'll talk to you throughout the day, letting you know he's there but he not a big barker. House broken, he has never had an accident or marked inside the house. As he's been settling into his foster home, he's shown that he knows all basic commands, including sit, stay, down, and leave it. He's still working on drop it as those balls are just too exciting! He's fantastic with adults and older kids. He enjoys exercising his mind with training and play such as hide and seek. We're sure he'd be good with dogs as he doesn't appear to be dog reactive. He's shown no aggressive behaviors. He does play a little rough, so very small children or small dogs might be challenging. We haven't had a chance to test him with cats yet. He gets quite excited when he sees cats or squirrels on walks but doesn't pull on the leash. He is very smart and does test boundaries, such as taking his ball out of the toy box up on a shelf when we are in the other room, but he has yet to get into anything that belongs to the humans in the house. He is still intact and soon to be neutered. All in all, he's a deeply affectionate playful dog and we expect him to make a forever owner very happy. PS- His tale is crazy long and just stunningly beautiful!

DESCRIPTION:

Lovely Kabona was confiscated from her owner after being left outside to fend for herself. The shelter that took Kabona in recognized that she was undersocialized and would need some extra support in order to move forward. When they reached out to MAGSR, we knew we needed to step in.

Kabona is a lovely, young girl who thrives with consistency and structure. Due to the lack of opportunities provided to her prior to her arrival at MAGSR, she has a lot to learn about living in a loving household. However, she has already begun to make significant strides. Kabona is a big fan of treats and toys. In fact, she thinks she should have all the toys at once. I mean who could blame her. The more toys you put in one spot, the more fun you can have. In just a week, Kabona has made significant progress crate training and house breaking. She is clearly an intelligent girl. Although Kabona is showing us that in the right circumstances she will thrive, it is important that her forever family recognize that Kabona will need slow introductions to new people and situations. This will give her the opportunity to adjust to her surroundings and meet with success. Kabona will benefit greatly from training as this will help her further develop her overall confidence; it will also help her bond with her new family. Kabona is patiently waiting for her forever home. Are you the right match for her?

Lizzo is a survivor. After using her for puppies, Lizzo's owner decided that owning her wasn't advantageous anymore. As a result, he gave her away to  someone in the community who left her outside to roam. Without proper care, housing, or food, Lizzo began wandering about the community. Although it was unsafe, Lizzo started regularly running through town to return to her previous residence where a furry friend still resided. Fortunately, a good Samaritan became aware of Lizzo's suffering and was able to arrange for Lizzo to be released to a local rescue in the south. Recognizing that Lizzo would have her best chance at finding the forever home in another region, she was transferred to MAGSR. Although we are still getting to know Lizzo, it is clear that even with all the suffering she has endured that she is an incredible dog. DESCRIPTION:

Lovely Macy was picked up as a stray with her little family in a busy city. Recognizing that sweet Macy deserved to live a life of comfort and love, the shelter staff made a rescue plea for Macy. MAGSR stepped in to help Macy.

Macy is a sweetheart that quickly wins over the hearts and minds of everyone she meets. A constant source of tail wags and joy, Macy couldn't have a kinder personality. Although we know that Macy is an incredible girl, we have learned that she is heartworm positive. This diagnosis could have been avoided if she has been properly cared for and provided with monthly heartworm preventatives. Macy has begun her heartworm treatment and is doing well. The cost of Macy's entire treatment will be covered by MAGSR. Treatment is expensive, but Macy is clearly well worth the cost. Please donate toward Macy's treatment, your generosity will help us save her and other dogs with medical needs. MAGSR was honored to step-up and provide Mazie and Sadie with a safe haven while we looked for the perfect forever for these girls.

Mazie is a special girl. Her family welcomed her home after a breeder considered putting her down after being born with a congenital defect. Although Mazie required a little extra time and support, she was welcomed home to a family that taught her how to walk, play, and interact just like any other dog. Mazie is a little confused by all of the changes in her life. As a result, she needs a little extra time to warm up to new people. DESCRIPTION:

Odetta is a survivor. She was found living on the streets of a large city protecting three fluffy puppies. Recognizing that they needed help, animal control was called to help Odetta's little family find safety. They were brought to a shelter where the staff quickly recognized that this little family would have their best chance if they were transferred to a rescue. Odetta's puppies, Benceti, Pavys, and Thorson, have found loving homes; however, Odetta has needed additional support adjusting to her new life.

An intelligent girl who is also a problem solver, Odetta thinks through situations well and loves to work her way through specialized toys for treats. Although Odetta has some clear strengths, she did not have positive socialization with people prior to her arrival at the shelter. As a result she is very fearful and uncomfortable around people. At this time she is a high flight risk and will require training, patience, and structure in order to learn that people are safe and will attend to her needs. Although our volunteers are working very hard to help Odetta adjust to her new life, this is a slow process.

When Odetta is ready for her forever home, she will be best suited for a family that has experience with fearful dogs. A quiet home without children would give Odetta the opportunity to adjust slowly. Odetta does seem comforted by other dogs and enjoys their company. Her anxiety level drops significantly when another stable dog is present. Although another dog in the home is not required, Odetta may benefit from the confidence that a second stable dog would bring.

Please watch for updates as Odetta further develops her socialization skills.

DESCRIPTION:

Handsome Saska was found running loose in the south. When no one came to claim this friendly guy, MAGSR stepped in to find him the forever home he deserves. Although we are just getting to know Saska, we are impressed with his curiosity and outgoing personality. Saska enjoys the company of other dogs, is crate trained, and settles nicely during car rides. Lucky Saska is settling in with a foster family so that he can continue to learn the ins and outs of living in a household. If Saska sounds like a good match for your household, ask to meet him today.

Update: Saska is learning a lot with his fosters. He is housebroken and crate trained. He is still learning basic commands. Saska loves cuddles, belly rubs and likes to lean on you for comfort. He likes to play fetch and looks forward to his walks.
Update: Saska loves to go for walks, his favorite training treat is cheese and he does not destroy his stuffed toys immediately. His foster continues to work with him with him on his obedience.

Shy and MAGSR thank these Sponsors for their generous support:

DESCRIPTION:

Shy is a survivor. Owned by a hoarder in the south and used to breed puppies, Shy's life had been filled with pain and suffering. However, when another rescue stepped up and removed Shy and several other dogs from the premises, Shy's life changed forever. Recognizing that Shy would have her best chance at finding the forever home in another region, she was transferred to MAGSR. Although we are still getting to know Shy, it is clear that even with all the suffering she has endured she is a sweet but very timid dog. Shy will thrive in a stable, confident, and patient household. This will provide her with love, guidance and leadership needed to help her develop confidence. As we have the opportunity to learn more about Shy, we will post updates. If Shy sounds like a fit for your household, please ask to meet her today.

Update: Shy's foster is happy to report that she has made the transition from living in a horrible hoarding situation to living in a home quite nicely.  Shy is housebroken, crate trained and walks nicely on the leash.  Shy still gets startled easy as she is learning to trust her humans and will retreat to her crate as her safe place.  Shy is a sweet loving dog, has shown no aggression and gets along with the resident dog.  As Shy puts her horrible past behind her we feel she will blossom and be an outstanding addition to any family.

DESCRIPTION:

Fluffy Thorson and his little family found themselves alone and in need on the streets of a big city. Fortunately, a good samaritan found the little family, and got them to safety. When no one came to claim this little family, MAGSR stepped in to help them all find safe and loving homes.

Thorson is a playful and social guy. He, just like his brother, is a big fan of cuddles. While on the streets, Thorson incurred an injury and has resulted in paraphimosis. He will need additional monitoring and a surgery or two in order to heal properly. Multiple surgeries will be expensive, but we know that Thorson is more than worth the cost. Please consider donating to Thorsen's care as this will not only help us provide him with the support he needs but it will help us help other dogs with medical needs.

Although Thorson is a sweet guy, please remember that puppies are a lot of work and require a lot of attention from their family. Puppies are full of puppy antics and can be mischievous – they will whine, have accidents, get into things, and chew on inappropriate things. With time, patience, guidance and training, Thorson will develop into the good canine citizen he is destined to become.

DESCRIPTION:

As Trena has endured a difficult life, it can take her a little time to warm up to new people and circumstances. Her reactions and responses make it clear that she has been abused. When welcomed into her foster family, Trena would lay in the corner scared and shaking. Although fear seemed to consume this lovely lady, with love, patience, and a little help from her furry foster brother - Camden, Trena began making strides. Trena enjoys her daily walks and seems happiest when playing outside. As she has adjusted to family life, Trena has begun learning some basic commands, developing her playful voice, and housebreaking. Trena will be most successful in a household that will take the time to further build her confidence. She would benefit from a calm and quiet household that would provide the structure and patience Trena needs to meet with further success. If your family can provide Trena with the love and support she will need to continue to move forward, please ask to meet her today.

Update: Trena has had such a hard life but even with everything she has been through she is beginning to trust humans. Everyday Trena makes strides in trusting. She is very fearful and her fosters have found she likes to eat in her crate. It is exciting that Trena is starting to ask for belly rubs and had her 1st playdate and did great. As you will see from Trena's pictures she loves her foster brother Cam. Trena would do best with another dog in her forever home, as she looks to them for confidence.

DESCRIPTION:

Yuki's family loved her dearly; however, due to some unforeseen circumstances, they found themselves unable to provide her with the attention and care she deserves. As a result, Yuki's family made the difficult decision to surrender her to MAGSR. We have promised Yuki's family that we will find her a safe and loving household.

Yuki is a lovely and energetic shepherd. As is common with most shepherds, Yuki thrives with structure and leadership. When these circumstances are not present, she can become nervous and anxious. Although Yuki has lived with other dogs, cats, and children, she does need time to warm up to new people and animals. When given this opportunity, Yuki meets with success. Yuki is looking for a forever family that will help her move forward. If she sounds like a good match for your household, ask to meet Yuki today.

Update: Yuki has been with her foster for 2 weeks and is settling in well. She is starting to show her fun loving personality and can we just say: SQUEAKY BALL! She is in love with squeaky balls and would love to play fetch with her person for as long as possible. She absolutely loves getting her chest scratched and will pull your hand right to her chest with her paw. Need a reminder not to sit at the computer for long periods? No problem. She has a built in clock that says one hour at a time only please. Her itchiness is doing better and her coat is looking more glossy with regular groceries and fish oil. She is still nervous around other people and dogs and needs very gentle introductions. We are working on leash manners and she knows she is supposed to do something different, but is still very focused on watching out for trouble. After barking and letting workmen know that they were entering restricted territory and then getting introduced, she had no problem letting them come in and work on my house. Yuki has a possible diagnosis of EPI -- a pancreatic insufficiency common in GSDs, and may need lifelong enzyme additives in her food. It doesn't bother her but may be adding to her tendency to being underweight and itchy.
