Recognizing that Major would thrive in a household that could meet the needs of a young shepherd, they surrendered him to our care. We promised that we would find Major the perfect match so that he could move forward.

Major is a stunning and intelligent guy. Young, playful, and energetic, he is looking for a family that will help him meet with success. Major's family will need to provide him with daily exercise for both his mind and his body. This will help him burn some of his puppy-like energy as well as help him use his mind productively. As is true of all shepherds, Major is looking for a forever family that will provide him with the structure, routine, and leadership that he needs to thrive. Training will go a long way with this boy. Not only will training help him develop a strong and healthy bond with his family, but it will also help him grow into a stable and confident adult. Having spent most of his life living outside, Major's new family will have to teach him what it is to live in a home. Current Size: 69 pounds
Ideal/Potential Size: 75 pounds

DESCRIPTION:

Sweet Rainbow was living on the streets in the south caring for a litter of puppies. Although she was doing everything she needed to keep her babies safe and loved, people can be very unkind and this family needed help. Animal control was contacted; the entire family was brought into their care. When they were old enough, Rainbow's family was listed as available for adoption. All of her pups found forever homes, but this sweet girl was left behind. Unfortunately, this happens far too often placing moms in danger of euthanasia. With overcrowding at unimaginable levels, Rainbow's time was almost up. She was incredibly lucky and another rescue was able to pull her from the shelter with the hopes of giving her a little more time to find a breed specific rescue.

While waiting for placement within a rescue that was more likely to help her move forward, Rainbow was placed in an incredible foster family. This gave her a chance to learn the ins and outs of living in a home. It also enabled her to socialize with dogs, cats, and kids. As an incredibly stable girl, Rainbow did an amazing job in the home. Although we know Rainbow can thrive within a loving household, it is important that her forever family remember that it will take her some time to adjust. Given structure, routine, and leadership, Rainbow will meet with success. Training will also help Rainbow continue to move forward. Training will not only help her bond with her forever family but it will also help her develop into a good canine citizen. If this incredible girl sounds like the right match for your household, ask to meet her today!

Gloria

ADOPTED 07/30/2023!

Gloria
GloriaGloria
Gender: Female
Breed: German Shepherd Dog
Approximate Age: 4 years 8 months
Color: Black & Tan
Current Size: 57 lbs
Ideal/Potential Size: 70 lbs
Housebroken: Unknown
Obedience Trained: Working on it
Altered: Yes

Good With Kids: Unknown
Good With Cats: Unknown
Other Dogs OK: Likely
DESCRIPTION:

Gloria was picked up as a stray in the south. Based upon her poor body condition, it was assumed that she had lacked care or been on her own for some time. Although she was clearly in need of help, Gloria proved to have a phenomenal temperament with shelter staff. Due to overcrowding everywhere and an endless number of dogs entering the system every day, shelter staff recognized that Gloria had limited options for moving forward. To provide her with her best chance at finding a forever home, they began networking Gloria with the hopes of finding rescue placement. When we heard that Gloria needed a soft place to land, we immediately began putting plans in place to welcome this lovely girl to the MAGSR family.

Gloria is an intelligent and curious girl. Although friendly, she prefers to take her time when adjusting to new people and new situations. When working with a calm and confident handler, Gloria thrives. As is true of all GSDs, Gloria is looking for a household that will provide her with the structure, routine, and leadership that will help her meet with success. At this time, we do not yet know if Gloria understands the ins and outs of living in a household. However, we know she is more than ready to try out this next step. The comforts of a quiet home, regular meals, and a comfortable place to sleep will continue to help Gloria on her journey. Not only will Gloria benefit from a loving home, but she will also benefit from training. Training will help Gloria create a strong, healthy bond with her forever family; it will also help her develop the skills needed to become a good canine citizen.

Once pulled from the shelter, our team quickly began to address Gloria's medical needs. Emaciated with severely infected ears, raw skin, missing hair and sores throughout her body, it was clear that Gloria was in constant discomfort and pain. On top of this, she developed an upper respiratory infection that required additional support. As we looked closer at her needs, it was noticed that Gloria's gait seemed off. Once healthy enough to move forward, our incredible vetting team decided to run x-rays and discovered that Gloria is suffering from severe hip dysplasia and arthritis in both hips. We have begun supplements and medications to help her with pain management; however, Gloria will need to meet with an orthopedic specialist to determine next steps for care. Although Gloria's care will be very expensive, we know that this lovely girl is more than worth the cost. MAGSR will cover the entirety of Gloria's treatment. Please consider donating to Gloria's care. Not only will your donation help Gloria receive the medical support she needs to move forward, but it will also help us continue to support medical dogs in need. Please watch for updates on Gloria as she takes her next step toward recovery.

DESCRIPTION:

The Kentucky Six - Diego, Champ, Serena, Peanut, Evie, and Yogi - are cruelty and neglect survivors. Living in inhumane conditions, starved, and used as breeding stock, the Kentucky Six managed to make it off the property alive when the right people heard about their conditions and got the authorities involved. All six dogs were confiscated and brought to a shelter where they waited for the chance to find kind and loving families of their very own. Although shelter staff worked hard to make sure that all six dogs began getting the care and attention they deserved, they recognized that with shelters at capacity and adoptions limited, these six precious souls may not have the chance to find their forever families. They began working with local groups and started networking the dogs in hopes that rescue placement would be found. Fortunately, their message made its way to MAGSR. Our incredible team knew that this group of dogs was very special, so we began putting plans in place to welcome the Kentucky Six to the MAGSR family.

Although Diego's life was filled with challenges and suffering prior to his confiscation, he remains a sweet and interactive guy. Intelligent and eager to please, Diego has already begun to learn a few commands. He really is an incredible guy. Sometimes we are simply astonished by the resilience of dogs that have been through so much trauma but are still willing to connect with people. As is true of all shepherds, Diego will thrive when provided with structure, routine, and leadership. In many ways he is still in the beginning stages of his new life. He will need time to adjust to new people, environments, and expectations. However, given patience and opportunities to learn, we are sure that Diego will continue to discover the joys of being a beloved member of a family. We do not know if Diego has had much experience living in a household. Clear rules and boundaries will help him settle into his new home. Training will also go a long way for this boy. Not only will training help Diego develop a strong and healthy bond with his forever family, but it will also help him become a good canine citizen. Diego is looking for a forever family that will cherish him for a lifetime. If he sounds like the right match for your household, ask to meet Diego today!

Our newest babies - Sam, Ellie, Carlton, Blue, and Eugene - were found too small and without a mommy. Babies really need to be with mom until at least eight weeks. This gives them a chance to access the nutrition, love, and social foundation needed to meet with success. As luck would have it, a dog in the area, Madison, was having a hysterical pregnancy and was ready to step in and help these babies in need. Madison did an incredible job fostering her babies and taught them everything she could before sending them on their way to their adoptive families. We will forever be grateful to Madison and her human mom for stepping in and making miracles happen.

All five babies have been well-loved and cared for. Over time, they have developed their own special personalities. Eugene is the life of the party. He likes to play and tumble around with everyone. This boy isn't afraid to get dirty. Thinking he's the leader of the pack, Eugene likes to pretend that he's the oldest of the pups. However, he does have a little competition for that spot. Although Eugene is an all around fun guy, please remember that puppies are a lot of work. They will whine, chew, have accidents, and fill your world with endless puppy antics. With time, patience, and training, Eugene will develop into the good canine citizen we know he is destined to become. If this spirited little guy sounds like the right match for your family. Ask to meet him today!

Updates:

Eugene is a happy puppy! He is enjoying hanging out and exploring everything.  He follows the big dog role models and is Learning about being a pampered house pet.  As Eugene is still a pup, he has a lot to learn. In preparation for his new home he is learning about dog toys to chomp on, crate training and going potty outside.

Logan and his ten siblings (the Gilmore puppies) found themselves in an overcrowded shelter in the south. The number of dogs needing placement is simply overwhelming shelters across the country. Unfortunately, these babies, like so many other dogs, were in need of help fast. Recognizing that these babies deserved every opportunity to meet with success, staff at the shelter sent out personal rescue pleas attempting to keep this large family alive. When we heard that the Gilmore puppies needed placement, our incredible team began putting together plans to welcome all eleven babies into the rescue.

The Gilmore puppies are a social, playful, and interactive bunch. They have clearly had opportunities to socialize with people and other animals. However, this process has just begun. It is essential that their forever families continue to provide opportunities to socialize with people and animals in new and safe environments. This will help the Gilmore puppies develop stability and confidence as adult dogs. Training is also critical for these babies as it will not only help them create a healthy bond with their forever families, but it will also help them develop into good canine citizens. The Gilmore puppies have all settled into amazing foster families where they are learning the comforts and routines of living in a home. They are learning about toys, treats, and the joy of a good nap. As they move forward, the Gilmore puppies will be looking for loving forever homes that will continue to provide them with structure, routine, and leadership. Although these babies are cute as can be, please remember that puppies are a lot of work. They will whine, chew, have accidents, and fill your home with endless puppy antics. With time, patience, and training, we are positive these babies will grow into incredible adult dogs. The Gilmore puppies will open for adoption on April 22nd. Lizzy came to us from a small rural shelter in Arkansas. Sweet Lizzy was given up to the shelter with her pack mate, and how sad it was for her to know her packmate got adopted and she was still there. Lizzy was on the list to be euthanized when MAGSR stepped in to save this beautiful low-rider. Lizzy lived with a foster down south and her foster stated she is the easiest foster she’s ever had. There isn’t a dog or person she doesn’t want to meet. She gracefully interacted with the resident indoor cats at her foster's home and enjoys playing ball.

Unfortunately, Lizzy is heartworm positive but has completed treatment and just has another month or so of restricted activities before she is cleared. This diagnosis could have easily been avoided had Lizzy been provided with monthly heartworm preventatives. Although treatment is very expensive, this active little girl is beyond worth the cost. Lizzy's entire heartworm treatment has been covered. Donations toward her care are greatly appreciated as this will help us not only help this lovely girl get all of the care that she needs, but it will also help us continue to support medical dogs in need. Lizzy will need to take it easy over the next month while she completes her treatment. However, this will give her time to adjust to her forever family. If Lizzy sounds like the right match for your household, ask to meet her today.

Put your Jurassic hats on for this next young fella, as he was out on an adventure that almost brought him to extinction! (T)Rex was found wandering the streets in search of the comforts of a dwelling he once knew, then, a kind soul out on safari (okay, maybe not a safari, but out and about) in the wilds of Georgia found this sweet, poor fella and brought him to the local shelter.  Unfortunately, due to severe overcrowding, poor (T)Rex was set to become extinct.  Luckily the hero Paleontology team with MAGSR (kidding, they don’t have anything to do with dinosaurs…yet) excavated him from Georgia in the absolute nick of time and brought him to safety.

We don’t know that much about (T)Rex yet, but as we’re learning more about his very friendly and playful demeanor, we know he was socialized with both humans and fellow dino-dogs!  He sure does love the company of people and other dogs but needs to learn the proper ways of becoming a well-mannered GSD.  As with all typical young GSDs, (T)Rex is in need of a fierce trainer to lead him through the jungles of life.  He would thrive in a home where his family is either familiar with German Shepherds or is eager to learn about the temperament of the breed while providing the essentials -  training, structure, boundaries, routines, and continued guidance.

(T)Rex would be a ‘DINO-mite’ addition to the family!  He might need a little time to decompress and learn he is safe, and nowhere near extinction given all the movement and instability prior to arriving at MAGSR.  If Rex sounds like the greatest adventure you’d like to em’BARK’ upon, please ask to add him to your family today!

Geo needs your help.

Sweet Geo was picked up as a stray in a busy city in the south. When he arrived at a shelter, it was highly apparent that this big guy would need help to move forward. Although he was calm and patient with staff members, the state in which Geo arrived was simply heartbreaking. As the number of dogs arriving in shelters is at a constant state of crisis, dogs with needs like Geo are often first to be added to the list for euthanasia. Sadly, Geo was placed on this list without many options for survival. Staff members at the shelter and rescue groups around the area knew that Geo deserved a chance to move forward safely. So, a call for help went out to rescues up and down the coast. With some help from a few different people, we were able to put a plan together and welcome Geo to the MAGSR family.

Geo is definitely a special guy. Having arrived at the shelter in unimaginable pain, Geo has handled one situation after another like a gentleman. Emaciated, covered in scabies with a secondary skin infection, heartworm positive, dealing with infected toe nails, and partially to possibly completely deaf, Geo is going to need significant support as he moves forward. Fortunately, our team is on it. Currently living with one of our amazing vetting partners, Geo is getting all the time, attention, and medical support he needs. We have begun by running blood panels, checking his thyroid, taking x-rays, and starting medications. As the first pieces of Geo's medical care are moving forward, he will begin medicated baths and heartworm treatment soon. Geo's recovery will take time; however, we will stay by his side throughout his journey.

We are still getting to know Geo. However, so far he is known to be a pretty easy going guy which is impressive with the amount of suffering he has endured. Content to chill and take in his surroundings, Geo seems to need a little time to take in all of the changes around him. Currently, we are focused upon doing everything we can to ensure that Geo is content and comfortable. As his health improves, we hope to see more of his personality. We do know that Geo is good on leash and enjoys the company of his people. He loves gentle petting and settles in nicely with people that are calm and confident. Geo will be looking for a family that will cherish him throughout his golden years. Could that family be you?

Please help with Geo's care and recovery.

Although their brothers and sisters found forever families of their own, these two babies were not as lucky.  Recognizing that both pups would be most successfully placed in loving forever families if they were part of a breed specific rescue, their family decided to surrender them to MAGSR. We promised we would find both babies incredible forever families that would cherish them for a lifetime.

Samantha is active, intelligent, and adorable. This little lady has been well-socialized with people and other animals. However, it is imperative that her forever family continue this process in order to help Samantha develop into a stable and confident adult. Samantha is living with one of our incredible foster families. They are working with her as she learns the ins and outs of living in a home. As a smart girl, Samantha is already starting to pick up new routines and expectations. As Samantha moves forward, training will be essential to her success. Not only will training help Samantha develop a strong and healthy relationship with her family, but it will also help her become a good canine citizen.

Although Samantha is an absolute doll, please remember that puppies are a lot of work. Puppies will whine, chew, have accidents, and fill your home with endless puppy antics. With time, patience, routine, and training, Samantha will develop into an amazing dog. If this little lady sounds like the right match for your household, ask to meet her today!

Handsome Sawyer was returned to the rescue when his family could no longer provide him with the time, attention, and care that they knew he deserved. Recognizing that Sawyer would thrive in a household that could meet the needs of a young shepherd, they returned him to our care. We promised that we would find Sawyer the perfect match so that he could move forward.

Sawyer is a stunning and intelligent guy. Young, playful, and energetic, he is looking for a family that will help him meet with success. Sawyer's family will need to provide him with daily exercise for both his mind and his body. This will help him burn some of his puppy-like energy as well as help him use his mind productively. As is true of all shepherds, Sawyer is looking for a forever family that will provide him with the structure, routine, and leadership that he needs to thrive. Training will go a long way with this boy. Not only will training help him develop a strong and healthy bond with his family, but it will also help him grow into a stable and confident adult. Having lived in a home, Sawyer already has an understanding of the expectations of living in a home. He is housebroken and crate trained. We don’t know if it’s ‘Maybelline’ or maybe it's MAGSR, but this ‘Beautiful Basha’ (or Rose from the Golden Girls) doesn’t look or act her age!  It’s clear she was well taken care of, but unfortunately an abrupt change with her previous owner's living situation has left her as an owner-surrender. It was a heartbreaking decision, but the couple knew bringing her to MAGSR would give her the best chance at living out her golden years, (much like Rose) in a loving home.

As we get to really know Basha, she is somewhat bashful, but still very active, working-line, almost 11 year old beauty.  It’s really difficult to believe she’s almost 11! She has the agility and energy to leap a 2’ hurdle to chase a squirrel out of your yard for absolute protection!  Basha’s foster reports she is unfortunately struggling with her new living situation and will need some time to decompress and realize she is safe and will be loved and taken care of, much like the final episodes of the Golden Girls.

Since Basha comes from a working-line of GSD’s, she is well trained and knows a number of tricks, but is probably up to learning a few more.  This will help fulfill her need for both physical and mental stimulation.  Because she has a high prey drive, it’s probably best she is placed either in a home without cats, or with one that is a dog-savvy cat.

Basha is absolutely eager to find the right FUR-ever family, and would really thrive in an environment where she is provided the basic necessities of a senior, working-line puppy-at-heart -  training, structure, boundaries, routines, and continued guidance.

If ‘Beautiful Basha’/ “Golden-Girl Basha’’ sounds like the golden era you would like to chat about life with, please ask to add her to your family today!

Carlton is the goofiest of the puppies. He keeps everyone happy and his little eyes simply dance with merriment. A huge fan of food, this boy is always happy to chow down and keeps his belly full at all times. Although Carlton is a love bug, please remember that puppies are a lot of work. They will whine, chew, have accidents, and fill your world with endless puppy antics.

Although Peanut's life was filled with endless challenges and suffering prior to her confiscation, she remains loving and affectionate. With a gentle demeanor and sweet personality, she easily wins over everyone who meets her. Really, who could say no to those lovely eyes? Although she has endured a lot of suffering throughout the years, Peanut's demeanor remains stable and lovable. Sometimes we are simply astonished by the resilience of dogs that have been through so much trauma but are still friendly and interactive.  As is true of all shepherds, Peanut will thrive when provided with structure, routine, and leadership. In many ways she is still in the beginning stages of her new life. She will need time to adjust to new people, environments, and expectations. However, given patience and opportunities to learn, we are sure that Peanut will continue to discover the joys of being a beloved member of a family. We do not know if Peanut has had much experience living in a household. Clear rules and boundaries will help her settle into her new home. Training will also go a long way for this lovely lady. Not only will training help Peanut develop a strong, healthy bond with her forever family, but it will also help her develop the skills needed to become a good canine citizen.

Unfortunately, we have learned that all of the Kentucky Six are heartworm positive. This could have easily been avoided with a monthly heartworm preventative. Peanut is just beginning treatment. However, she is already handling her protocol like a pro. Although heartworm treatment is expensive, MAGSR will cover the entire cost of Peanut's medical treatment. Please consider donating to Peanut's care as it will not only help Peanut continue to move forward, but it will also help us continue to welcome dogs with medical needs. Peanut is looking for a forever family that will cherish her for a lifetime. If this amazing lady sounds like the right match for your household, ask to meet her today!

We would like to introduce Sage; a stunningly beautiful, bouncy, 7 month old sable.  Unfortunately, her previous family was unaware of the requirements of a GSD puppy, and made a difficult decision to surrender her so she could live her best life.  With that being said, Sage wasn’t properly socialized with other dogs or humans, and as a result, is terrified of most things.  In order to help give her the best chance, Sage will be receiving some training to help her rebuild her confidence.

As we get to know Sage, it is clear she will need time to decompress and onboard some training that will help build her confidence.  We know she will end up being an incredible, loyal and loving companion, but will need to be placed with a person or family that is either familiar with German Shepherds or is eager to learn about the temperament of the breed while providing the essentials -  training, structure, boundaries, routines, and continued guidance.

If Sage sounds like the adventure you would like to blaze trails with, please ask to add her to your family today!

DESCRIPTION:

Lovely little Bell and her sister, Bebe, were surrendered to a local shelter. Although it was clear that the girls were sweethearts, the shelter environment is a loud and scary place for many dogs, especially puppies. In a constant state of fear and starting to avoid people, shelter staff knew that if the girls remained in the shelter environment much longer, their chances at finding a forever home were limited. Recognizing that the girls were beginning to shut down in their new surroundings, shelter staff made an urgent plea for rescue help. Although we already had several puppies within the rescue, when we heard about Bell and Bebe's situation, we knew we needed to step forward and welcome both girls to the MAGSR family.

Bell is beyond adorable. Her lovely eyes simply draw you in and melt your heart. However, due to a lack of socialization with new people, new environments, and new animals prior to her arrival in MAGSR's care, she can be skittish and unsure in new situations and with new people. Her tendency is to attempt to run and hide. Bell is fortunate to be living with an incredible foster family that is working hard to provide her with the opportunity to socialize with new people and other animals in controlled settings. However, it is critical that Bell's forever family continue this socialization. Bell is looking for a forever family that will provide her with the structure, routine, and leadership that all dogs crave. Training will go a long way with Bebe. Not only will it help her create a strong and healthy bond with her forever family, but it will also help her develop into a stable and confident adult. If your household has the time, patience, and energy  to provide Bebe with opportunities and experiences that all young dogs deserve, ask to meet this little girl today!

DESCRIPTION:

Darren was picked up as a stray and brought to an overcrowded shelter. Upon his arrival it was clear that this sweet guy was special. Darren was gentle and affectionate but also very scared. Due to overcrowding, Darren was living on borrowed time and needed help fast. Recognizing that this guy deserved a chance with a forever family, a rescue plea went out. When we learned about Darren's situation, we immediately stepped forward and welcomed Darren to the MAGSR family.

Darren is a gentle and timid soul. A little jumpy with fast movements, it is evident that Darren has survived a lot in his short life much of it may not have always involved a kind hand. However, he remains sweet and affectionate. Darren did very well with staff members at the shelter and seems to appreciate a calm and gentle handler. Darren's family will need to be patient with Darren as he adjusts to his forever family. However, given a little time and kindness, Darren warms up to his people. Darren is looking for a forever family that will provide him with the structure, routine, and leadership that helps all dogs thrive. Training will also go a long way with Darren. Not only will training help Darren develop a strong, healthy bond with his family, but it will also help him develop into a stable and confident canine citizen. Darren is looking for a forever family that will adore him for a lifetime. Could that be with you?

Updates:

Darren is thriving! While very hesitant and shy when we first welcomed him to our foster home, just a few days later he has gained confidence and is a relaxed and happy dog.  Although unwilling to walk very far originally due to fear/anxiety, Darren is now happy to accompany our GSD on long walks and loves chasing the ball in our fenced back yard.  He is housebroken but just starting to learn the basic obedience commands.  He has been extremely friendly with all other dogs, children and adults alike. (No interaction yet with cats.)  He has charmed our 4 year female, who doesn't normally love other dogs.  He is adorable, we call him a "fun size" GSD at 32 pounds.  We love Darren and we know the adopting family will too!

,

We have had Darren with us for about a month now - and he is simply a really sweet boy.  He loves everyone - adults, children of all ages, other dogs — these are all friends he has yet to make.  He enjoys walks with Yuki (our 4 year old female Shepherd), playing with her in the backyard and chasing balls.  He also likes to gather all of his toys (as in this picture).

DESCRIPTION:

Jess and his ten siblings (the Gilmore puppies) found themselves in an overcrowded shelter in the south.

If Jess sounds like the right match for your household, get your application in today!

Updates:

Jess is doing well; he is very social,  he likes all dogs of all sizes. He respects my senior male alpha malinois, loves my 2 females, & plays well with my other male dog. He would really enjoy another dog as a buddy or housemate.

He has learned so much! Jess now does a reliable sit, can usually shake paws, & we’re working on down. Stay or place is next. He’s also learned stairs.

Jess likes to play ball, plays a good game of tug, and if not supervised, he will steal the dish rags. He is showing a very high drive, due to his mix (shepherd, and likely border collie) so he’ll need a home where he can have plenty of activity or a job. He definitely does not like being bored!

Although sweet little Zaire is still very young, we don't know much about her first couple of months. We do know that somewhere along the lines something went very wrong as she was found one morning tied to the front door of a shelter in the south. Sweet but understandably a little shy, shelter staff knew that the longer she remained at an overcrowded shelter, the less likely Zaire would be to find a forever home. In order to provide Zaire with every opportunity to move forward safely, shelter staff began working with the rescue community to find a placement. Fortunately, one of our rescue partners heard of Zaire's plea and helped us welcome her to the MAGSR family.

Zaire is an interactive, playful, and social girl. She is learning all about the joys of a comfortable bed, good food, and plenty of toys. Her incredible foster family has begun the important work of teaching Zaire the ins and outs of living in a household. She is a smart little girl and is already beginning to pick up new skills. As Zaire is still very young, her foster family is working hard to support Zaire providing her with opportunities to socialize with people and animals in varied environments. Socialization is critical to Zaire's success. Her forever family will need to continue this process to ensure that Zaire develops into a confident and stable adult dog. Bebe is fortunate to be living with an incredible foster family that is working hard to provide her with the opportunity to socialize with new people and other animals. However, it is critical that Bebe's forever family continue this socialization. Bebe is looking for a forever family that will provide her with the structure, routine, and leadership that all dogs crave. Training will go a long way with Bebe. Not only will it help her bond with her forever family, but it will also help her develop into a stable and confident adult. If your household has the time and patience to provide Bebe with opportunities and experiences that all young dogs deserve, ask to meet this lovely girl today!

Although Yogi's life was filled with challenges and suffering prior to his confiscation, he still wants to connect with his people. Intelligent, friendly, and energetic, Yogi is a goofy guy. Still very young, he still has some puppy mannerisms that result in endless smiles. Due to his long hair and the level of neglect he endured, Yogi needed extensive grooming upon arrival to help him get relief from the filth and matting resulting from his circumstances. Although he has endured a lot of suffering, Yogi remains a happy guy. Sometimes we are simply astonished by the resilience of dogs that have been through so much trauma but are still friendly and interactive.  As is true of all shepherds, Yogi will thrive when provided with structure, routine, and leadership. In many ways he is still in the beginning stages of his new life. He will need time to adjust to new people, environments, and expectations. However, given patience and opportunities to learn, we are sure that Yogi will continue to discover the joys of being a beloved member of a family. We do not know if Yogi has had much experience living in a household. Clear rules and boundaries will help him settle into his new home. Training will also go a long way for this boy. Not only will training help Yogi develop a strong, healthy bond with his forever family, but it will also help him become a good canine citizen. Yogi is looking for a forever family that will cherish him for a lifetime. If this playful guy sounds like the right match for your household, ask to meet Yogi today!

Nico

Nico

Gender: Male
Breed: German Shepherd Mix
Approximate Age: 1 year 11 months
Color: Black & Tan
Current Size: 55 lbs
Ideal/Potential Size: 70 lbs
Housebroken: Unknown
Obedience Trained: No, I'm a puppy!
Altered: No

Good With Kids: Unknown
Good With Cats: Unknown
Other Dogs OK: Yes
DESCRIPTION:

Handsome Nico was surrendered to another rescue in the south as his family felt that they could not provide him with the life he deserved. Due to an overwhelming number of dogs needing rescue right now, the other rescue asked MAGSR if he could be transferred. As working together helps save lives, we were happy to welcome Nico to the MAGSR family.

Nico is your typical young GSD. He is active, intelligent, and full of energy. It is clear that Nico was well socialized with other people and loves everyone. As is true of all young dogs, Nico is looking for a home that will help him exercise his body and his mind on a daily basis. Nico has lived in a home and has already learned the many of the ins and outs of living in a home. However, he will need time to adjust to the structure and routines of his forever family. Training will go a long way with Nico. Not only will training help him develop a healthy relationship with his forever family. It will also help Nico develop into a stable and confident adult. Nico is looking for a forever family that will commit to him for a lifetime. Could that be with you?

Updates:

Nico is a sweetheart with plenty of puppy energy. He has loved having the company of our 40 pound mixed breed female and has done great around other dogs - interested, but no negative reactivity. He has also been around young kids and a cat without any problems. Nico loves to be outside, give kisses, snuggle on the couch, chew collagen bones, and play tug of war. He is housebroken, crate-trained, and sleeps through the night in his crate. He is currently working on fetch with the frisbee and ball and is also learning commands such as sit, wait, out, heel, gentle, down, and no. He is adorable, but also can be a bit puppy-ish and stubborn sometimes, so training, structure, consistency, and having outlets for his energy will go a long way to help Nico flourish into the incredible dog that he has the potential to be.

When circumstances suddenly changed, their family could no longer keep them and began looking for rescue options. Recognizing that this little family needed help and quickly, our volunteers began working together to welcome everyone to the MAGSR family.

Tito is a handsome and energetic guy. He can be a little timid when placed in new situations and with new people. However, given some time, patience, and kindness, he warms up. A big fan of cuddles and massages, Tito just needs a minute to learn that you are trustworthy. Although Tito has been socialized with other dogs, he has not had much experience in new situations and environments. Socialization is a critical component when raising a stable and confident dog. Tito is living with a loving foster family that is beginning this process. DESCRIPTION:

Bright eyed Amari was given as an unexpected and unwanted gift to a child. Although she was cute as a button, the child's caregiver recognized that puppies require a lot of love, attention, and guidance to become stable, adult dogs. Knowing that this was not something they could do, they began looking for a rescue option for Amari. Fortunately, a rescue network began working together to try to find Amari placement. When MAGSR learned that Amari needed placement, our team immediately stepped forward to help.

Amari is a sweet, energetic, and curious pup. As is typical of her breed, she has endless energy and great drive. Very attentive to the handler, Amari is going to be the star of training class. Having already developed a strong ball drive and a love for playing, Amari is hoping that her forever family has a good throwing arm. Living with an amazing foster family, Amari has already begun to learn the ins and outs of living in a home. She learning how to crate train and housebreak while also developing an understanding of the rules and expectations of the household. A smart girl, she picks up new learning quickly.

Unfortunately, Amari fell very ill after arriving in our care and had to be rushed to the emergency room as she had become lethargic, couldn't hold food down, and was not able to defecate. Knowing that Amari deserved every opportunity to survive, MAGSR made sure Amari got the care she needed. After extensive bloodwork, x-rays, fluids, and an ultrasound, it was determined that Amari needed immediate exploratory surgery for concerns with potential hernias and potential repairs to her bowels. Once surgery began, our incredible veterinary team discovered that Amari was suffering from double hernias that had entangled her bowel and cut off blood flow. Luckily, this was found in time and her surgical team was able to repair both hernias and resect an area of the bowel. Can you help with her care?

Amari has returned to her foster family and is beginning her recovery. We were so lucky to have an incredible team working together to help her survive. However, Amari's medical needs have been very expensive. We need your help. Please consider donating to Amari's medical needs. Not only will this help Amari get the care she needs, but it will also help us help other medical dogs in need. Amari will be recovering with her foster family over the next few weeks. Once healthy, she will be looking for an active family that will help her exercise her body and her mind on a daily basis. If this stunning girl sounds like the right match for your household, ask to meet her today!
