Description:
Say hello to Bear! He is just a sweet, sweet 3-4 year old boy who is friendly with everyone and everything. Bear found him self in need of a new home because someone didn't care enough to keep him safe and secure. These pictures were taken before he was groomed and you still see just how beautiful his coat is. He rides well, walks great on a leash, and he is fine with children, cats and other dogs. Bear is currently in foster and doing great.
Upon his medical exam a mass was discovered on his scrotum, when his neuter was preformed his scrotum was also removed and the mass was biopsied. The results came back that sweet Bear had a Mast Cell Tumor which was malignant at stage 2. The treatment for stage 1 and 2 is surgery, which Bear has already had. For more information on Mast Cell tumors see http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?c=2+1638&aid=461 I would not let this be a deal breaker for anyone who is looking for a great, loving family companion. Please won't you open your heart and home to Bear. We promise you will never regret the love you receive in return. If Bear has touched your heart and you would like to give him a loving home you can find our applications at http://www.dogrescuemd.org/id18.html or send us a note at dogrescuemd@live.com

Description: Faolan is 3 years old, spayed, house and crate trained. I think she understands the human language because she listens all the time. She is quiet, and will sit at your feet for hours. Faolan has been blind since birth and no one can tell unless we reveal this information. She is very intuitive when it comes to navigation, and she knows the words "step" and "wall!" Faolan is also a very good watch dog. Her only vice is that she does not get along with other dogs. and she annoys our family cat but does not hurt her.

Description: Flash is a beautiful shepherd mix whose big brown eyes will absolutely melt your heart. She was returned to the shelter because her family was splitting up, so she's the product of a divorce in a situation where she was admittedly lacking the attention a young dog so needs. Flash is a high energy bundle of fun, super playful, loves toys and to play fetch. Anything you are doing, Flash wants to do, too. Going for walks or taking car ride? Flash is ready to come with you, tail wagging. Watching a movie or cooking dinner? Flash will lie down on the floor just to be near you. She is a smart cookie and takes well to positive training. She already knows a lot of tricks. Flash is housetrained, rides well in the car, and enjoys being brushed and groomed. She behaves well around the house and respects her boundaries. Other dogs are no problem for Flash. Despite being a large girl Flash gets along great with smaller dogs and puppies. She would do well in a home with a dog that enjoys playing with a canine friend as much as she does. In her previous life, Flash lacked guidance and training, but she is beginning to catch up. When she first came into her foster home, she was nervous and always needed to be busy doing something. She had to relearn to simply relax and let the world go by. While she is happy go lucky, always ready to play or cuddle, Flash is a very sensitive dog and needs a family that understands that she needs firm but gentle training. This special girl needs an adult only home that has experience with large dogs so that she can continue to develop into the well adjusted dog she can be. Flash needs a home that will give her very clear rules, lots of love and plenty of exercise and she in turn will be your loyal friend for life.

Description: Delta and Hanover are true rescues and here are their stories. Hanover's story picks up from Delta's trapping. The trap was re-set and placed just away from the den near the trees and a watch schedule was put in place. The 11pm watch left and when I came at midnight there was this awful screaming coming from the tree area. Flash light in hand we ran to where the trap was and there was Hanover inside and throwing the loudest fit you have ever heard and thrashing around to the point I almost let him free for fear that he would kill himself. Once I screamed louder then him that he was OK he settled down and we carried the trap to the parking lot and waited for help. Didn't have to use straps with Hanover and could even put my hand inside to pet him. He would not look at any of us, no eye to eye at all, but was in no way wanting to bite us. Hanover also got to spend the night at my house, right beside his favorite girl Delta. After Delta was dropped off for her day at the vet Hanover was on his for for his visit. We carried the trap in to the building with him in it but once inside it was opened and he came out. The vet was able to give him a top to bottom exam, vaccines and other tests with no worries. Of course when the visit was over he did not want to walk on the leash so the vet just picked him up in her arms and carried him to the truck were he huddled down and rode very well. Hanover show no signs of aggression or fear, but he is very detached from people. For him to move his life forward he needs to be in a home where he can have one on one continuous contact to build his confidence in himself and his trust in people. If you have a desire to help a young dog become a wonderful companion, to watch him grow into a beautiful well adjusted dog, please open your home and heart to Hanover and contact us at dogrescuemd@live.com and ask about fostering. It's a feeling you'll never forget! Team work saved these 8 lives, please become part of that team and help them to move forward. Update: Hanover needs a foster who is patient, understanding and is willing to work with him while he grows. Living in a kennel is not going to bring this boy to his full potential. We are actively seeking a special loving foster home who has the know how and love to share with Hanover. If you are that person and want to see the tremendous different YOU can make in a dogs life please contact us at dogrescuemd@live.com or submit a foster application at www.dogrescuemd.org Please help us to continue helping him.

DESCRIPTION: Kass was dumped off at Dead Dog Beach, an area in Puerto Rico where animals are routinely abandoned and abused. She was picked up during a "beach sweep" where the local animal control picks up dogs from the beach area in an effort to "clean up" the beach for upcoming tourist events. Our group, Hands For Paws, rescued Kass and the other 9 dogs picked up on that sweep. Kass is a special girl because she is missing her right eye and also has a break in her right front paw that has healed by itself and causes her to limp (not out of pain but because the leg is a little shorter than the others). Kass is very sweet and loving though a little shy at first. She's a good dog who is definitely deserving of - and waiting for - a wonderful family to love and be loved by. |

Description: Marcy does not make a great first impression. She has some typical shepherd temperament and is a little reserved at first. If you give her time, and get to meet the real Marcy, she is affectionate and loves to play ball. If you have the patience to give Marcy a chance to let her "shining" self show, you will have a great companion.

Description: Sargent is a sweet 6-8 year old boy who is currently being fostered with another GSD (German Shepherd Dog) and a GSD mix. He comes to us as an owner surrender due to the inability to care for him any longer. Sargent is currently 10-15 pounds under weight due to not being fed properly and poor choice of food. His vet work shows him to be healthy despite the lack of good healthy nutrition. Sargent is great with children and other dogs but we do not yet know how he is with cats. There is no food aggression but he can be a little rough when playing with toys. He is house broken, rides well, but could use some work with leash walking. He wants to play and has the energy to do so! If interested please contact us at dogrescuemd@live.com or submit an adoption application that you can find at http://www.dogrescuemd.org/id18.html

Description: Stacy was rescued with eight newborns in Eastern Kentucky. She had given birth in an old building site, was emaciated and very tired when she was brought to me. About a week later I noticed that her eye had a lot of discharge, so I took her to the vet and we started her on antibiotics and eye ointment. 2 days later, her eye swelled, protruding, and started bleeding. Took her back, and she tested positive for Blastomycosis. Because she was still nursing, the treatment given to her had to be very limited. She was exhausted and in a lot of pain. She was, however, a SuperStar Mom! She nursed her puppies and watched over them carefully all through the horrible pain, and after about 3 weeks, we were able to wean the puppies. She had her eye removed, and she started her Blasto treatment. Her puppies went into rescue but she could not follow. She is now finished with treatment and is ready for a home. Stacy is very loving, needs to know that she is loved, and she is playful, fun, and has regained her health. She is very eager to please. Stacy can live a long, healthy life if she is given good care and healthy food.
