Our Commitments

I'm beautiful to look at
And wonderful to hold,
But please don't adopt me
If you wont keep me 'til I'm old.

Good things come to those who wait.
The saying really is true.
Just give me a chance to be a good dog,
And I'll never stop loving you.

THESE BEAUTIFUL DOGS ARE NOT CURRENTLY AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION...BUT, WE HOPE, SOME OF THEM MAY BE SOON!

These dogs' stories are examples of our commitment to rescue.  It illustrates how we fight for each and every dog we get in, and how it is often a road filled with obstacles, both emotional and monetary.  Some of these beautiful dogs will be available for adoption after some love and rehabilitation.  We've taken in dogs and given over two years of care in some cases before allowing them to be adopted...click here for shining examples of why we "bother" to help the helpless dogs.Despite not being available for adoption, these loving dogs still deserve a good life and MAGSR is committed to giving it to them.  In all cases, they were either neglected and abandoned and often times seriously abused, or just given up on, all of which has caused considerable emotional and sometimes physical trauma.  With the help of caring trainers, and probably more importantly loving and patient fosters, we have been able to rehabilitate many dogs in similar conditions.  With the help of generous sponsors, dedicated fosters, and lifesaving financial grants, MAGSR has been fortunate enough to care for even the most desperate of dogs.

Description:   Dallas was adopted out may years ago from us and lived a happy life filled with love. Unfortunately her owner is in ill health and is no longer able to care for her. Dallas is a very sweet, calm and gentle girl that gets along well with everybody, cats and dogs. Dallas is suffering from allergies which has caused her some skin issues and loss of hair. She is under the care of a Vet and with a change in diet and weekly baths her skin is healing and her coat is filling in, she is also gaining weight. If you have room in heart and home for this girl she would be forever grateful. A foster home to lay her head and get lots of love and attention would be wonderful while she waits for her forever family.

Update: Dallas is a loving, sweet girl and is adored by her foster family. Unfortunately, she is having some more health problems and we are working very hard to get her well. Details to follow.

DESCRIPTION:  Hello!  It's me, Raven again.   I am back with my old MAGSR buddies here at the kennel -- well, most all of them are new buddies now.  My Mom got sick and could not care for me like she did at first, so she returned me because she loves me and wants me to have a home where I will be walked and exercised and loved --  just like she did before she got sick.  I am a very lovely "mature" German Shepherd lady.  I have been called "sweet". :)  I do have my moments!  I love people.  I love to be in a home.  I love walks every day and I love to go for a ride in a car.  Other dogs, well -- let's just say that I consider most of them pretty inferior and I prefer to have my people all to myself -- and no kitties, puhleese!  They are just -- so --  well, not doggy at all! I am great in a home.  I will wait until you get home if you work -- then we can walk, and you can tell me all about your day.  And, I do listen very, very well.  I will tell you whenever anyone comes to the door...and make sure that I give them a good sniff when you let them in -- and if you say they are ok, I will wag my tail and accept them.  I am a nice, "mature" lady - just waiting for another chance....Won't you give me one?  My name is Raven, and I am very anxious to meet you.

Update: Raven was returned as her person could no longer provide for her. However, now she resides in a foster home with several shepherds and she's become a member of the "pack". She is doing great with her pack and is learning new things from them all the time. She fell into the routine from the start and to date, has been the easiest foster we've had. Raven is not a terribly demanding older girl and her life has been full of turmoil and change, both of which are obviously very difficult on dogs. But don't let her age fool you. She has a spunky side that we now see daily. She's starting to play with a ball and loves to play with two of our female GSDs. These two behaviors appear to be new to her life, or at least were not permitted prior to now, which in itself is a crime given her age. But don't believe the old wive's tale regarding learning new tricks. In addition to her newfound freedom of being the dog we all wanted for her to become, Raven loves having soft doggie beds to lay upon, going for car rides, getting lots of loving kisses and taking walks with her pack members, both human and canine. Through all of these things, Raven, as well as all dogs, need structure and rules set for them. They need to know what is expected of them, what they are allowed and not allowed to do. This structure helps the dog understand where he/she fits in the pack hierarchy. This element is absolutely critical for a well functioning pack. This pack could be one human and one dog or could be several of each. With all of this being said, despite Raven's advanced age, she has the same needs as a dog much younger than herself. Only difference being that she has some gray hair and doesn't run around quite as fast. She is also housebroken, has had no accidents at all and is quite fond of her crate. Very often, you can find her lounging in there on her own accord.

She would fit in well with several households. She does not need to have other dogs around to be fulfilled. But in the right hands, she could fit in well with a very select family that has another large breed dog(s). But that family will need to understand the challenges a multi-dog household presents. No matter who you choose, please consider the dogs' needs in addition to your own. This makes for a much better and happier fit for all involved.

DESCRIPTION:  Well, what to say about Rio?  Rio was a walking skeleton; 35 to 40 pounds underweight.  He is also one of the sweetest, gentlest dogs we have come across in quite a while.  Rio is not young.  He is over 7 years and considered a senior.  Every one of those years for him have not been kind.  He has the careworn look of a dog that has seen much and been through more, and has still maintained the dignity and the presence of the German Shepherd.  He has fly bitten ears - indicative of a dog left outside or kept outside.  His teeth are worn and he has a few missing - again indicating either abuse, trauma or biting at a wire kennel for a long period of time.  Rio is deaf. Rio is also heartworm positive, a condition so easily prevented with just a simple pill once a month, but unfortunately his previous owners were negligent in this regard also.  It has been a hard life for this boy.  Yet, he is beautiful - inside and out.  Regardless of the bony body and the ears - he is a beautiful dog.  He has big, liquid brown eyes that look right through you and are hopeful.  Seeing Rio for the first time now may bring tears to your own eyes.  But Rio, you can tell has hopes for a bright future and is very happy to be where he is.  He is exactly where he should be now.  He has been rescued in the true sense of the word.  He has a challenge ahead of him with his physical condition, and a long road ahead of him, but we will take one day at a time and are confident that you will see an absolutely stunning dog, with shiny fur and bright eyes, all better and waiting for his forever home soon.

Rio is with a temporary foster right now - soon to move to a more permanent foster home.  He will have excellent care.  Rio also joins his other MAGSR friends in rescue who are heartworm positive; Henry, Cindy, Caleb, Thor, Everett and Elliott - for a total of 7 dogs now in the rescue who are heartworm positive!! Please help us to help these beautiful dogs who are afflicted with heartworm through no fault of their own. MAGSR is under a severe financial strain now because of the medical expenses we now have for all of our medical needs dogs. We have always taken the very best care of our dogs, and with your help we can continue to do so. Won't you please contribute to our Medical Fund and help us to help Rio and his friends?

Update: Rio has come a long way and has been given the okay to do as he pleases. His foster mom has been talking him to the dog park and he loves every minute of it. He is one social guy. He has met dogs of all sizes along with puppies and has been nothing other then a perfect gentleman. He is starving for human attention and soaks up as much as he can. If you have a place in your heart and home for this wonderful boy please ask to see him today. He so much deserves a loving forever home.
