The Bare Naked Ladies

Shana

I know the pictures are shocking, luckily, for these two gentle 8 year old ladies, kept chained to a tree most of their life, neighbors kept an eye on them and when they noticed some physical issues Animal Control was called. Even hardened shelter workers were aghast at their condition. These poor girls were hairless from sarcoptic mange that was untreated for about 10 months, starved from inadequate food and covered with bloody oozing sores as a result of the constant scratching from the mange. Their tails look more like rat’s tails than the fluffy plumage of a GSD. The skin around their face was so taut from lack of food at first glance they looked like skulls from a Halloween horror show. Despite all this they were pathetically happy to see anyone who stopped by their run, wagging their tails and desperate for some love and attention.

Lady

The good news is that their sarcoptic mange is cured, the girls still need veterinary care to ensure they do not contract any infections from the open sores and are able to gain the 20 lbs! The dogs are now safe with MAGSR with a foster mom who has already started the weekly medicated baths and the “spa treatments” they will need for some time to assist in their recovery. Their rehabilitation will be costly both financially and with volunteer time in bathing, vet visits and beginning the socialization and training that most family pets start as pups.

p.s. Here are some pictures of the Ladies and we will have pictures of their first baths up here soon, and stay tuned from many updates!

I can’t believe the condition of these two girls. I got to meet them yesterday and they were just the sweetest girls. After all this they still are craving human touch…Thank you for taking them in!

This is truly the meaning of rescue and why rescue work is so important. With MAGSR teamwork and help from MAGSR supporters, these two girls will have better nourishment, restored health, and the chance to live the rest of their lives in a home where they are cared for and loved as the sweet, deserving GSDs they are.

Thank you to MAGSR for stepping in and savings these two beautiful GSD’s. For all the volunteers and P.W. for helping these girls.
This is what rescue is all about.

Pat, I don’t know whether or not you believe in Heaven…but if you do, please believe that someday, you’ll get your crown. Thank you so much for taking in these lovely girls - there’s no better place for them right now, and they’ll soon be restored to good health under your care.

I can only hope the “people” who were responsible for this horrible abuse have been arrested and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the animal cruelty laws.

Why in the world animals would ever trust humans after such cruelty is beyond me. But thank goodness they do. They enrich our lives in unimagineable, immeasureable ways and in many cases their unconditional love is endless. Yet some cruel people never cease to amaze me with their callousness and selfishness. We are not only lucky to have foster kids like this in our presence but also their foster parents as well.

These two dogs are evidence of two things: the presence of evil in the world, and that there are people and organizations who are willing to do God’s work no matter personal or financial cost.
