DESCRIPTION: Bella made a very long trip to come to us.  Unfortunately due to personal issues Bella's former family was no longer able to keep her, wanting only the best for Bella they arranged for her to make the long journey so that she could be in our care.  Bella is as sweet as they come, she's friendly with everyone she meets, children and adults, she enjoys the company of all other dogs regardless of their size and is kind and gentle with cats.  I cannot say enough good things about Bella, from the moment I picked her up at the airport she has been very gentle, sweet and kind.  Even though Bella has been through a lot of changes in the last 24 hours she seems to be taking it all in stride, she is a very brave girl.  Bella would once again love to have the warmth and love of a family and the comforts of a home.  Ask to meet Bella, I am sure you will fall in love with her just as I did.

donna

DESCRIPTION: "Sweet, mature female looking for a permanent and loving home. --  Settled and well behaved, crate trained and housebroken, prefers and is used to a calm and quiet household".  Meet Donna, a good looking lady who is a very sweet and very social.  She is not an active dog - would love a family that would include her in walks and couch time.  She is good with other dogs - prefers the well behaved - not the "in your face" type of pushy dog. :) A proper introduction and she is good to go!  She has the basics down pat; sit, stay, fetch and will high five! :), nevertheless, some obedience training is required to help the bond between Donna and her people.  She does not understand why she is no longer with her family, and she really needs a home.  Donna is the typical Shepherd - loyal and smart, ready to be a great companion and a fantastic family pet.  Please ask to meet this lovely dog.  Donna - she is waiting to make your acquaintance.

Update:  Donna had a total hip replacement which went well but the surgeon had to be "creative" and she received a custom made apparatus. Due to this fact, Donna's healing process will take a bit longer than a routine THR. She had her 6 week post surgery check up yesterday and her surgeon reports she is healing well although slowly. She will be receiving aqua therapy and will require at least 8-10 weeks more of rest to heal. Therefore she will not be available for adoption temporarily.

Update: Goodness! Have I been this busy that I've not written lately? Well, I'll try to get you up to speed. I went to Aqua Therapy for 10 weeks and finished around the first of Oct. After my hip surgery, I held my leg out to the side because the stem on my hip replacement was longer than normal. Everyone at Paradise Pet Therapy worked hard with me and MC and DC worked with me at home and pretty soon I "re-taught" my brain to bring my leg back in. Dr. Burke, my therapy vet, was very pleased with me and said I could stop coming to see her. MC promised to continue doing exercises at home and she has. Then I went to see Dr. P  who was happy too to see that I was walking almost normal again. He said I didn't have to come see him either anymore! I was a happy girl!

I'm a "regular" at Bon-Ton. It's a tough job. I have to go and lie on my bed and give my pitiful look to folks walking in the door.  Sometimes I fall asleep since it's such hard work! Roll Eyes

MC is pleased that I'm so good around lots of different people but she's still sad that I don't get along with other dogs or with cats either. MC and DC had something called a "Baby Shower" and lots of people were here (about 30) and some were really short people called kids and I was just fine with them.

I've had a few health issues to be dealt with. I kept having ear infections so MC asked the vet if I could be having food allergies. I chewed my feet alot too. MC switched me to Fish and Potato food (yum!) and gave me baths for a while and I'm much better now. I still have to have my ears cleaned weekly.

Update: I recently went to the vet for my yearly check up and boy, was the vet happy with me! They took blood and all was fine and dandy with that and the vet is so happy with my weight and general health! She was impressed with my pretty teeth saying most dogs my age don't have pretty teeth like me! She was also very pleased with my hip and how well it's working. my foster mom assured her that I have NO PROBLEM running and playing fetch! My foster mom and dad still can't believe I'm 7 years old or so, I have so much energy! Even though I have lots of energy, I still like to chill and watch tv when my foster mom and dad want to! My allergies are all under control. My foster mom doesn't have to clean my ears but every other week and I don't chew on my paws or scratch so much either. Switching me to Fish and Potato food and making sure all my treats are grain and chicken free has made all the difference in the world and it's such an easy fix!! Still waiting for my furever home!!

DESCRIPTION: Rosie along with her house mate Wolfie got themselves into some trouble in their previous home.  They escaped their backyard and went after the neighbors goat, well the neighbor was not too happy with their shenanigans, so the landlord of the home where Rosie and Wolfie lived with their family said they had to go...that meant shelter life for both Rosie and Wolfie.  Proper containment and training could have avoided this, something they will both require from their new families.  Both Rosie and Wolfie lived with children and other dogs and got along fine.  Rosie is a more dominant dog and would do best with a less dominant dog.  She is friendly with all people and would make a wonderful addition to most any family.  Please ask to meet Rosie, but be sure you are able to commit to her for her lifetime, along with provide the necessary training which is required for all of our dogs.

DESCRIPTION: Laska came from a High Kill Shelter where her chances for survival were slim, thank you to a rescue angel Laska is now safe with us looking for a loving and caring family to open their hearts and homes to her.  Laska is smart as a whip, She is such a Happy Go Lucky Girl and she'll bring a smile to your face anytime.  She's seriously engaging, loving and affectionate, snuggles and wants to be in your lap. She loves to chase a ball and if you throw a stuffed toy to her, she'll try to catch it in her paws.  She is working on some training, she learns very fast and is great on a leash.  She's a puppy, so she still needs some training, but with some obedience classes this is gonna be easy.

Please, please do your research before you apply.  Be realistic. This cute, fluffy puppy will grow up and become a large dog fast. Please make sure you can make a commitment to a puppy that will last through their entire lifetime - most of which will be as a big dog - they are only cute and little for a short time.   As with any puppy, she will try your patience to no end.  You will spend much more money than you ever intended to spend on a dog, and you will have things chewed, peed and pooped on, and occasionally strange things swallowed with frantic trips to the emergency vet.  You will be ready to throw up your hands - many times!   However, if provided with love, guidance, training, and vast amounts of patience, she will love you unconditionally and will be your best friend fur-ever.  We at MAGSR want to make sure that this little cutie has the best home ever. If you feel that you have what it takes to give that home please contact us.

Description: Stewie is new to us and we are just getting to know him.  We do know that he was a stray to a shelter, but there is no history for him.  He is a completely blank slate at this point and he is need of training. He is a young and exuberant boy that has no manners.  He does not know how to walk on a leash, he does not know how to introduce himself to other dogs. With the right handler and training Stewie will learn all of the finer points of being a calm and controlled boy. Stewie will need an experienced handler and a family that can deal with a high energy dog. He will require a lot of exercise to help burn off his energy. DESCRIPTION: Comet was found running the streets dragging a 45 lb. chain around his neck. He sat in the shelter waiting for someone to come and claim him, but that never happened. With no tags or a micro chip his family was never located. Comet is now safe in the care of MAGSR. He is being checked out by our vets, being neutered and receiving everything he needs. Comet is a sweet, friendly and energetic guy who would love a home where he will never be tied out again. A family that will cherish, love him and give him the care and life he so deserves. A very caring volunteer from the shelter he was in made the long drive to bring Comet to us, she said he was so sweet she was ready to around and bring him home herself. Once Comet is all done at the Vets he will be ready to charm visitors. Set up your appointments now to meet Comet, as I am sure he will be popular.

UPDATE: Hi folks, Comet here. I'm @ the kennel taking appts if anyone's interested. I'm a very happy friendly puppy and am now attending a training class with a very nice loving volunteer. She gives me lots of hugs and ear scratches and belly rubs which i LOVE !! And I love riding in her car. I'm so relaxed sometimes I even get a quick nap. The kennel is loud and it makes me nervous, but I love when the volunteers are here to spend time with me. I get to play ball in the big play yard and show off for them. Get lots of treats, and rest under a tree for the day. I will be a great family member if you only give me a chance. And with training I promise to be the perfect son. See you soon.

DESCRIPTION: Sugar is a sweet as her name and just as beautiful.  Sugar is looking for a very committed, loving and caring family to that will provide her with everything she needs for the rest of her life.  She is very smart and should excel at training which is a requirement when adopting any of the dogs in our care.  Training is so very important as it will teach Sugar everything she needs to know which in turn will make her a confident, well mannered girl.  Sugar would probably do well with a family that is interested in getting her involved in agility, search and rescue or another type of sport as Sugar is and will be a high energy girl that will require a lot of exercise of both her body and mind.  Sugar is still a puppy and as such will require a lot of patience and time as all puppies do.  If you are interested in meeting Sugar, please contact us to set up an appointment.

DESCRIPTION: Mowlgli is a very handsome fella who found himself without a family or home, wandering around all on his own. Some nice people found Mowlgli and took them into their care. After weeks of searching for his family, posting fliers, checking with shelters and vets no one ever came looking for him. Knowing Mowlgli would make a lucky family a great family member they reached out to MAGSR to help Mowlgli find that lucky family. Mowlgli is still very much a pup, he likes to jump up in your face and give you kisses, something that training will help him overcome. He did fine meeting other dogs and wanted to do nothing more than play, although he was too fond of an un-neutered male he met. Mowlgli is very friendly when meeting new people, full of tail wags and kisses. A good training program is a must for Mowlgli and his new family, as it with all of our dogs, as this will help him learn to be the best boy he can be. Training also helps build a lifelong bond with the family and will make having a fur family member a much more enjoyable experience. We are accepting appointments to meet this sweet fella, so please ask to meet Mowlgli.

Description:Buddy once had a family of his own but sadly they surrendered him to a shelter due to them having allergies.  Wow, was Buddy's life turned upside down, he found himself in an unfamiliar place with people he did not know.  Although Buddy is shy and nervous when meeting new people for the first time, his friendly and wonderful personality still shines through.  He quickly became a shelter favorite.  Buddy resided as a foster in the home of one of the caring people from the shelter, she reports that he is house trained, and readily goes in his crate, but he likes his crate to be where he can see his people.  It was also reported that Buddy got along well with the resident dog and 5 resident cats.  If the cats ran Buddy would chase them but when they stopped he stopped, if they hissed at him Buddy got scared and ran away.  If the cats walked up to him he would allow them to do whatever.  Buddy loves to be by his people and can become anxious if he does not see them.  Buddy will bond very quickly to a new family once he is shown love and care.  This sweet boy so wants to be apart of a family and will cherish you for his lifetime, could that family be yours?  Please ask to meet Buddy.

Description: Tyson is a handsome sable Shepherd with a lot of energy.  He had a family of his own but found himself in a shelter when the new babies of the family developed allergies, so Tyson had to go.  He spent sometime at the shelter before coming to MAGSR.  The shelter reports that he is friendly with all people, loves attention and affection.  Tyson walks well on a leash (pulls a bit) - he needs to be taught how to walk with a loose leash. He knows his basics like sit, lay down, and quiet. He likes to ride in the car, and he is house trained also.  He is a high energy boy that will need daily walks and exercise to keep his energy in check.  Due to his energy he may not be suited for a home with young children as he may inadvertently knock them down.  If you are family that enjoys the great outdoors, hiking, long walks or even some type of dog spot...Tyson is your boy.  Ask to meet Tyson to see if you have it what it takes to be his forever family.

DESCRIPTION: Wolfie along with her house mate Rosie got themselves into some trouble in their previous home. Wolfie is till very much a puppy at only 9 months old, she will require a family that is able to spend time working with her, taking her for lots of walks and playtime.   She is friendly with all people and would make a wonderful addition to most any family.  Please ask to meet Wolfie, but be sure you are able to commit to her for her lifetime, along with provide the necessary training which is required for all of our dogs.

UPDATE: What a great young dog is Miss Wolfie.  She came to stay with us a couple days ago, and she is just a joy to have around.  She is very good natured and easy going, and she is very friendly and meets new people and other dogs easily.  But she can sometimes go a little overboard in terms of her well-intentioned exuberance when meeting new friends.   She is still a puppy in many ways, but Wolfie is very smart, alert, attentive, and takes direction well.

Wolfie is housebroken, adjusted to the crate, and easy to manage on leash.  She seems to thrive on directed attention and exercise, and settles down very well indoors – especially if she has been worked out.  She has taken very naturally to trotting along with the bicycle and really seems to enjoy that.  She does have a penchant for the squirrels, but is starting to learn to “curb her enthusiasm” in that regard.  And she can make the distinction between a squirrel and a small dog: the start was a bit shaky, but Wolfie began to learn how to coexist with my daughter’s Jack Russell Terrier when he came for a visit over the week-end.  She seems to learn quickly and instinctively, and will really blossom and mature with the formal training that all young GSDs need.  And in addition to Miss Wolfie’s great personality and temperament, she happens to be a striking beauty.  Don’t delay if you would like to meet this very nice young girl.

Anna

DESCRIPTION:  Anna and Lacey are two beautiful, and very healthy,  girls who need a new home. They were both adopted about three years ago – but unfortunately their owner has become ill/disabled and can no longer provide adequate exercise/care. They really miss the walks that mom used to take them on and need someone active who can play with them and take them on long walks. The are the best of friends and hope to find a new home with room for both of them, but can also be adopted separately.   Both are extremely loving and well behaved and will integrate well into their new families. They lived successfully with an indoor cat – however they are not good with outdoor cats or any other small animals or birds.

Anna needs a stronger hand on her leash as she can’t resist the temptation of a squirrel, rabbit or cat. She loves nothing more than being outside, playing in the yard or taking a long walk. She would be a great dog for someone who wants to go further in obedience as she is very eager to please. She is afraid of storms and likes to hide in the back of moms closet when a big storm goes thru.  Anna was a chewer as a puppy and will still chew occasionally if she is bored or stressed. Her mom keeps plenty of marrow bones, robe toys and other chew toys  around the house for her. Anna is about 5 Lbs overweight right now – her ideal weight is 50 Lbs.

DESCRIPTION: Rebel needs so much more than his former family could give him. They worked long hours during which Rebel spent many hours alone and crated.  This is so difficult for any breed but even more so for a GSD.  They not only need physical exercise but mental stimulation to keep them happy and healthy.  Rebel, as with all our dogs, will benefit greatly from training.  This will teach Rebel all of the finer points of being a well mannered and obedient boy which will make for not only a happy dog but also a happy family.  Rebel is an all around great boy that gets along with children, dogs and cats.  If you are looking for a young dog that has energy to play and go for long walks and is very eager to please, ask to meet Rebel...he is waiting for his special family.

Description: Ziggy's former family purchased Ziggy from a breeder but quickly learned that they did not have the time nor patience for a puppy.   Puppies require an infinite amount of patience, love and positive training - training is so very very important and it can and should begin at a young age.  Please do your research before you apply, be realistic as Ziggy will grow up and become a large dog fast.  Please make sure you can make a commitment to a puppy that will last through their entire lifetime - most of which will be as a big dog.  As with any puppy Ziggy will try your patience to no end.  You will spend more money than  you ever intended to spend on a dog, you will have things chewed, peed and pooped on and occasionally strange things swallowed with frantic trips to the emergency vet.   You will be ready to throw up your hands - many times!   However, if provided with love, guidance, training, and vast amounts of patience, Ziggy will love you unconditionally and will be your best friend fur-ever.  We at MAGSR want to make sure that Ziggy will have the best home ever. If you feel that you have what it takes to give that home please contact us.

miley

DESCRIPTION: Miley's family moved away and left sweet Miley all alone in the house without letting anyone know she was there.  No food, no water...just abandoned her with no care or concern for how she would survive.  Luckily Miley barked and barked until someone heard her and got her to safety.  It is not known for sure how long Miley was left in the home but when she arrived to us she was quite skinny and very frightened.  Miley has spent a few days at the Vets where she was fully checked out, given the care she needed and plenty of good food and water.  Miley is now residing in a foster home with a loving and caring family learning that not all people are like her former family.  Miley's foster will post some new pictures and updates soon.  Please consider Miley, she would love to have a home and family of her very own, one that will cherish her for her lifetime.

UPDATE: She is a diamond  in the rough.  Miley is very active.  Loves to be outside playing.  She learns quickly but is still unsure when to trust people and may shy away and become scared and try to protect herself.  She needs stability which she has not had in her short lifespan.  She needs someone who is patient and kind and will invest the time that it will take to make her that precious diamond.  Miley is housetrained and is only crated during the day.  At night, she is able to sleep in the bedroom or kitchen area (a gate is across the kitchen) with no problem.  She loves belly rubs.

mila

sd Click here for more pictures

DESCRIPTION: Sweet petite Mila once had a family of her own but they did not treat her very well. In fact they were down right neglectful which is evident by her weight.  Mila is a shy and sensitive girl that is need of lots of love and stability. She has to learn to trust that not all humans are bad.  She thoroughly enjoys the company of other dogs, but is a definite NO with cats and chickens.  Mila is in a wonderful and caring foster home being well cared for and experiencing for the first time in life that humans are good.  She will need a quieter home, one without a lot of activity would make her most comfortable. Once Mila has bonded with her family she will be a wonderful companion.  Watch for updates from her foster.

UPDATE: Mila is such a sweet, gentle, affectionate dog.   She is a bit reserved -- shy and sensitive, and so can sometimes be a little slow to start with new creatures - but she has warmed up and been friendly with everyone, both man and beast, while she has been with us for the last two weeks.

And she has been through quite a bit and met a lot of new people (and animals) during her short stay so far.  Mila is recovering from a bout of colitis, and is on a special diet and medication.  As a result Mila has been to the vet quite a bit, and has received the best of care.  And in the process she has charmed everyone at the vet with her sweet, even tempered, disposition.  She came to the rescue underweight and a bit anemic, and together with the added burden of her stomach issues, she has been a bit on the quiet side temperamentally.  But Mila has remained pleasant and the perfect lady in every situation.

Mila gets along wonderfully with our older and larger male GSD, and has met a number of other dogs, large and small, and has been consistently calm and at ease.  She can get a bit overwhelmed sometimes if the play gets too rowdy or loud, but she generally seems to know how to be demure and adjust, consistent with her sensitivity.  She does brighten up wonderfully, but in short spurts so far, that will get longer and longer as she continues to recover, which may take a couple weeks or more.

And it is important to consider that because Mila has been under the weather, her temperament and personality may be subdued relative to her true nature, so she may well be a more active and energetic dog than has presented so far, in her short stay with us.

We really have taken a shine to this special girl.  Based on what we know so far, it seems Mila will do best in quiet home, and will make a wonderful addition to some very, very lucky family.

Update: It's been a few weeks since our last update, and Miss Mila is doing splendidly! She is putting on some weight (she has quite the appetite!), and her spirit and energy have really blossomed over the last couple weeks. Her digestion issues are at this point a thing of the past, although she is still on a special diet and medication for a little while yet. Mila has adjusted and settled in very well with us. She seems to be feeling very safe and comfortable, and we can tell that she is coming out of her shell and her confidence is growing day by day. She is very attentive, always responds to her name, and is easy to walk on leash. And although Mila is a sensitive dog, she is well behaved and easy to manage on busy city sidewalks, and around kids and other animals. Mila is such a sweet dog, she brings a smile to everyone she meets. Ask to meet this very nice girl, and we're pretty sure you are going to smile too!

DESCRIPTION: Polly has been with us approximately 3 weeks and is doing great. She has been to the vet and has a clean bill of health and is currently up to date on all her puppy shots! She has doubled her weight in the time we have had her in foster and she weighed in at 11.5 pounds recently at her vet appt.

She is a happy go lucky puppy that doesn't have many fears. She eagerly meets new people with her little tail a wagging and lots of kisses.. She absolutely adores children. She is living with a 7 year old and happy to be carried around and loved on.

She is doing well with big and little dogs but she is def. a little girl that likes to be the boss. She has no problem getting right in the face of my 95 pound male shepherd and telling him how it is. She is very active and loves the outdoors. She had learned to walk on a leash and is doing excellent with potty training. She has been the best puppy ever when it comes to sleeping through the night.. She goes to bed between 8-9 and is up around 6 ish.. She will easily adapt to a new schedule. She will do great with another dog or by herself. She doesn't seem to mind cats but will probably chase initially hoping they will play with her.

She is a typical puppy in that she is chewing everything in site so please be prepared and ready for all the time and patience needed when bringing in a little puppy. She will reward your for your time and patience many times over with her loyalty and love..

She is such a sweet girl and eager to have a home of her very own!

It was obvious by how under weight he was that he had been on his own for some time. He .sat in the shelter for sometime but no one ever came to claim him. With time running out and shelter very short on space Commander's time had come to an end. Luckily someone saw Commander and knew instantly that he would make a great family dog and reached out to MAGSR. While in the shelter he did well with other dogs. He was friendly and goofy with everyone he met. Please consider Commander as a new forever family member, make an appointment to meet him.

DESCRIPTION: Hey! Kaden, here! Yes, over here!!! Man, I don't know where I was before, but it sure was a scary place! People were ok, but it was noisy and there were dogs barking -- whew! Am I glad I got outta there! :) Nice people did take care of me. They said that someone would be coming soon to take me to a safe place; and sure enough, this very nice man came and gave me a biscuit and put me in his car....it had a nice blanket that smelled like other dogs so I knew it was a safe place. He told me that he was going to make sure I would find a great home where I would have a soft bed, lots of good food and water and some people who would love me forever and never let me go hungry or without a home again. So where am I now? Well, I think it is some kind of hospital.....they said I needed to have some "vetting" and "neutering" before I could meet my future forever. I am not sure what that is, but I know that it should be ok, right? I mean, in no time at all I will be ready to find my family -- I am what they would call a "diamond in the rough". I don't have much in the way of doggy education or learnin', am a bit of a wild child, but I am smart and will be very eager to pick up this traning. Anything to please my new family! I think a mom and dad and maybe a boy or girl to play with would be just wonderful! Hey! I should be all set to meet you soon. Ask to meet Kaden - the handsome one with the smile! :)

Kaden will only be placed in an experienced home.

Update: Hi, I’m Kadan; my foster moms asked me to update the web since I am so smart. Since coming to my moms’ home I have been living with 3 other nice MAGSR rescues. I love the high drive female and she has taught me how to fetch and return. I get along with all my foster sibs. I now have some nice moderate drive that mom says helps with training and exercise. I need my exercise or I tend to run up and down stairs on my own just to work up a sweat. I am an adolescent, just under two, so I will try to push myself into my moms hearts and cruise the counters when they are not looking. I can get into the trash too if they forget to keep it out of sight. My foster mates do too so I am not all to blame. I am definitely house broken and have virtually stopped the hand mouthing I loved to do when I first came here. I do not lick so I have to do something right? I tend to hug and mush myself on my moms lap.

My foster moms are still giving me training and I am working on recalls, sit stays and down stays. I have excellent leash manners if I do say so myself. I do not like bikes, shopping carts, strollers or other small wheels. My moms are going to work on that....something called desensitization. As long as I get treats and toy rewards I am all for it. Ask to see me but don’t if you have very small children. They scare me and I don’t like their toys with wheels. If you like exercise and like to show tough love...whatever that is, I am your guy.

Description: Buster was found as a stray and taken in by a very caring family in hopes of finding his family.  He is a great boy with a wonderful disposition, a real cuddle bug.  He enjoys playing with other dogs and has lived temporarily with cats, he did fine with the cats but wanted to play, so he should be watched that he does not play too rough with them.  He has the softest furriest coat.  This boy has some energy and would love a family that will spend time taking him for walks, playing fetch, hiking and would make a great jogging partner.  Oh and training...yes he would love to attend training..something that is required with all of the dogs adopted through MAGSR.  Training is so very important..it not only teaches good dog manners but also helps create a lifelong bond.  If you are looking for an all around great dog then Buster is your boy.

DESCRIPTION: Carlisle is approx. 8 years old.  He has lived his life chained to a tree, never knowing the comfort of home, soft bed, regular meals or the kindness and love of a caring family.  As a puppy his leg was accidentally slammed in the tail gate of truck for which he had never received medical treatment.

Update: Carlisle is in need of expensive surgery ($4,000) to replace a smashed disc in his back. This is from an injury he suffered as a puppy when the tail gate of a truck was slammed on him, for which he never received medical care. The specialist believes that this is the cause of his incontinence and is causing Carlisle pain. To meet Carlisle you would never know he is in pain, he is so kind, gentle and loving. We were told that some dogs are very stoic and do not show signs of pain, or in Carlisle's case he has lived with the pain for so long that he has just learned to accept it. We want to see that Carlisle lives out his life pain free, in a comfortable home with a loving family. Your donations will help give Carlisle the life he so deserves.

Please help us help Carlisle, your donation will help give him a second chance at life, one he so deserves.

Update: Carlisle sends many thanks to those who donated to his surgery fund. He wants you to know that he has had his operation and we have already seen encouraging signs of success. Prior surgery he had what is known as "dead tail" where the tail just hangs and does not move. We are happy to report that while it is not up and waving like a flag just yet, he can move it side to side and it even goes up as high as his back when he sees those peaky deer in the field. We have also seen improvement in his walk. He did have one unfortunate complication to his surgery which we are are still working to overcome. Even with his back surgery behind him, Carlisle's  medical journey is only partly completed as sadly he is also heartworm postitive. He must undergo treatment once he recovers from the complication of his back surgery.

For everything that Carlisle had to endure prior to his coming to MAGSR, he is probably one of the sweetest dogs I have ever met and one of the most handsome. Although running and playing for him is still restricted, he still loves to carry sticks around in his mouth. In a rather risky move, he claimed his foster fur brother Karl's "most favorite in the whole wide world" green ball as his own. Poor Karl was beside himself when he saw his beloved ball in the mouth of the new guy thus necessitating an emergency trip to PetSmart to purchase 5 more....one can never have too many green balls according to Karl.  So now both my foster boys walk around the yard proudly holding a big squishy green ball in their mouth.

It will be awhile yet until Carlise is ready for adoption but he does have continuing medical expenses. Donations to help cover them are greatly appreciated.

DESCRIPTION: Dozer is a handsome and playful boy whose playfulness got him into trouble.  You see, Dozer thought it would be fun to chase some cows..well neither the cows nor their person thought was a good idea.  Instead of keeping both Dozer and the cows safe from harm Dozer's family decided he had to go.  Poor Dozer found himself in a small rural shelter not understanding what he had done that was so wrong.  Now that Dozer is in the care of MAGSR we are looking for a family that will keep him safe and of course away from any cows that he may encounter!  Dozer is a super friendly boy who has quickly become a shelter favorite.  Training would go along way for both Dozer and his new family, as this will help Dozer learn some doggie manners and how to direct his playful energy.  If you are looking for a fun loving boy, ask to meet Dozer.

DESCRIPTION: Snowy is a very sweet and pretty miss.  Right now she is a mite skittish and unsure of her surroundings.  She is currently in a foster home and learning all the ropes and the fine points of being in the company of people who will not harm her.  She has a long way to go.  Snowy was a free spirit and on her own for a long time and she is wary - understandably so - and very street savvy. She is a definite flight risk right now and requires a little extra TLC. We are going to take it slow and take as long as is necessary for this beautiful girl to become comfortable in her new environment.  Snowy is in a wonderful foster home with doggy siblings and very loving, knowledgeable and patient fosters. Her fosters will update soon with new pictures and the latest information about Snowy.

Update: Snowy has resided in our home for approx. 2 months now. She is still a flight risk due to a lack of socialization at a critical period in her puppyhood. She greatly lacks confidence as a result. Fostering a dog that lacks confidence and is a flight risk brings on many daily challenges and one must always be on guard for something to set her off, spook or scare her and send her into panic mode. This must not be underestimated and I cannot stress this enough to potential adopters. It is constant and may possibly be something that she may never fully recover from. However, all dogs, like humans, are different and they learn and recover at different rates and one must not become frustrated with outbursts of fear or panic. Similar to when a child falls and skins a knee, running to them hysterically and saying "oh my, are you okay!?" makes the situation worse and then the child really starts to cry. Instead, we say "come on, you're okay" and they move past the traumatic experience much more quickly. Potential adopters will need to understand that they themselves will be the key to Snowy's rehabilitation. With all of that being said, while fostering her can be a challenge, she has also brought great rewards and joy to our household, both human and canine. Comparing where Snowy came from ,on the run and fending for her own safety and welfare, she has made some very good progress. She is far from being a well balanced dog. But she has shown us that she has a very kind and gentle soul. She has never shown an ounce of aggression of any way, even in her most terrified, fearful moments. She is slowly learning that people are okay and that other dogs are great! While she has taken to my wife moreso than I, she has bonded to both of us and often snuggles on the sofa between us where she receives a lot of affection. Upon us coming home, she may not run up to us with a wagging tail and greet with doggie kisses. But she musters every bit of courage to show you, in her own way, that she's happy to see you! She also has a particular fondness for our male GSD and they've been spotted playing like "normal" dogs do. She also has a particuar love of our swimming pool. She's a great swimmer and we use her love of swimming to create a bond with her because it's something that relaxes her and let's her "just be a dog". In the food department, she has a particular affection for cheese. She likes her veri-kennel (airline-type crate) and does not resist going into it when it's time for her to. Her leash manners are so-so, her housebreaking is going very well and as every week that passes, she seems to get just a little better. However, within that week, you could feel like you're taking two steps forward and then one step back. But keeping the big picture in mind is key. Having her around our dogs has helped her greatly with trust in humans. Snowy's adoptive home will need to be free of chaos, be very consistent in function and her adopters will need to be dedicated to her safety and recovery. Having another dog, one that is friendly, fair and well balanced would be highly preferable. Training is an absolute must. Snowy is beautiful to look at and though she's as cute as a button, there is MUCH more to take into consideration that just her looks. She will be a challenge for some time to come, I have no doubt. But I am confident that seeing her blossom and mentally grow will be an amazingly enriching experience and the bond that she creates with her family will be one of great depths.

Update: Snowy has been with us for approx. 4 months now and she is really coming out of her shell. She is much more comfortable with my wife than with me. She greets my wife with a wagging tail and is an all around wiggly, happy pup when they are together. She plays with our dogs and trots around the yard looking for someone to play with. It's great to see her showing signs of being a "normal" dog. However, when with me, she is still somewhat reserved and shy. But that's okay, we're just glad to see her making progress and moving in the right direction. She's still leash walked outside and will be so for some time to come.

She's starting to occasionally show interest in toys. It's not all the time. But when the mood strikes her, she can be seen chasing a frisbee, ball or even a stick.

Her housebreaking is still going fairly well except for having occasional accident which is most likely our fault. She has learned the sit and down commands although she has not mastered them. But she's got a good understanding of them. She allows me to clip her nails, brush her teeth and is okay with getting baths.

As you can tell, Snowy is definitely moving in the right direction. She still has a long way to go before I would say that she is no longer a flight risk. She still has her moments where something spooks her and that is when her behavior is erratic and that is where it is important for potential adopters to understand the risks associated with a dog that is still somewhat skittish and lacking confidence. Snowy is still a very needy girl. But like most other dogs, she has the ability to leave her past behind and move on with life and she is doing just that.

I would still suggest that she go to a household with no young children, very little noise and fairly consistent in routine. Two ingredients that will greatly improve the chance of a successful adoption will be (1) that her family takes her to training and (2) that there is another dog in the home that is well balanced. She has a playful side. So if you dog is playful, that's a plus. Training and the presence of another dog will both be critical in her rehabilitation.

DESCRIPTION: Meet our silver beauty Pepper.  Sadly her former family dumped her at shelter as they did not have time for her.  Poor Pepper was very anxious at the shelter and understandably so.  Pepper is now looking for a new family, one that will commit to her for her lifetime, not one that will tire of her and decide to toss her aside.  Pepper knows some basics such as sit, stay and lay down but still will be required to attend training with her new family.  Just think how much more will she learn and along the way you will both learn more about each other which will create a bond.  Pepper has lived with children, baby through teenagers and another dog...she did well with all.   Owning a pet should never be taken lightly, they need constant care, trips to the Vet, good nutrition, water, direction and love.  Please be sure you have considered how much time is involved in caring for a dog and be sure that you are able to commit for the lifetime of the dog before adopting.  Pepper is looking for the commitment...could that be you?  If so ask to meet Pepper..she will be forever grateful.

DESCRIPTION: Chantilly has been returned to us and is again actively seeking a forever home.  Her former home could not provide the necessary time to train this high-spirited child. :)  Chantilly is a beautiful girl - very feminine in appearance and is a stunner!  She is just a little shy, and still very much a puppy in her mannerisms and behaviors.  She will definitely require a home with an experienced owner/handler and a family with prior German Shepherd knowledge and experience.  Chantilly will absolutely need a commitment to a training program with a qualified trainer.  This is no shrinking violet!  Nope!  This girl has a mind of her own and is quite capable of taking control if you let her. Chantilly will definitely need training in addition to patience, love, stability and consistency.  Training with the dog more than anything cements the bond between the family and the dog and gives the dog the confidence it needs to be not only a well adjusted and well behaved member of the family, but also a socially acceptable member of the family pack. She will become a dog that  can go anywhere with her people and make them proud. Chantilly is all ready and waiting to meet her forever family now. Ask to meet this very beautiful girl.

Chantilly is waiting! She will only be placed in an experienced home.

DESCRIPTION: Jade found herself in a shelter looking for someone to take her into their family and provide her the love and care she so deserves.  Well, Jade has not found that family yet but she is safe in the care of MAGSR.  Jade was in the care of a temporary foster while waiting on her transport to us.  It is reported that Jade did well with the other 2 females but does need proper introductions and would be best with other non-dominant dogs.  She also was living with cats. While she did not chase, she did show interest and did respond when told "leave it".  Her temporary foster feels due to her interest in the cats it would be best for Jade not to live with cats.  The volunteer who transported Jade to our care reports that she rode well in the car - she was friendly and sweet. Jade is ready and waiting for a family to cherish her. Could that family be yours?  Set up an appointment to find out.

Description: Kobi is a very handsome and well mannered boy. He knows some basic commands such as sit, come, down, shake. He does pull a little on the leash but this can be easily corrected. He rides well in the car and enjoys going for car rides. He has been exposed to cats and had no reaction, even when the cat at the Vets office meowed at him he just ignored the cat. He has lived with a smaller female mix and did well, except that he played too rough for her. He is completely housebroken and does not chew things that are not his. Kobi will excel at training, he is very smart and already knows some basics. Kobi is a little skittish of loud noises such as sirens, thunder, big trucks. He will run and hide. He enjoys going for walks, loves to swim and play. Kobi will make a great addition to any family. Ask to meet Kobi, you won't be disappointed.

Description:Onyx is a very handsome, large boy that enjoys playing...he will actually toss the ball to you. He has a very sweet personality and wants nothing more than to be with his family going for walks, playing and working on his manners. Onyx will learn so much at training, better leash skills, commands that will help him settle and how to be a well mannered boy. He will do well with a strong handler due to his size. We would recommend a home with older children, due to his size he may inadvertently knock younger/smaller children down. This boy has energy, so long walks or jogs and playtime will help keep his energy in check. If you are looking for a boy to explore the great outdoors and possibly getting involved in a canine sport with Onyx should be your first choice. Ask to meet Onyx he is ready to move on and make a family very proud and happy.

DESCRIPTION: Meet Miles, Sterling, Walker, Cybil, Grace, and Polly  These 6 cuties ended up at animal shelter after being outside with no shelter.  Mama is a purebred German Shepherd, but it is anyone's guess what Daddy is, or should we say Daddies.  These babies love to cuddle and are looking for their furever homes.

These are babies and will require an infinite amount of patience and love, lots of old newspapers, and patient  positive training - training is so very, very important - and it can and should begin at a young age for a puppy - just as with a young human child.  Please, please do your research before you apply.  Be realistic. These cute, fluffy puppies will grow up and become large dogs fast.  Please make sure you can make a commitment to a puppy that will last through their entire lifetime - most of which will be as a big dog - they are only cute and little for a few weeks.   As with any puppy, they will try your patience to no end.  You will spend much more money than you ever intended to spend on a dog, and you will have things chewed, peed and pooped on, and occasionally strange things swallowed with frantic trips to the emergency vet.  You will be ready to throw up your hands - many times!   However, if provided with love, guidance, training, and vast amounts of patience, they will love you unconditionally and will be your best friend fur-ever.  We at MAGSR want to make sure that these little cuties have the best home ever. If you feel that you have what it takes to give that home please contact us.

UPDATE: Little Grace has been in foster for a little over a week now.  She is a true joy to have in our home.  She is currently living with 4 other dogs and gets along well with all of them.  Grace is a happy go lucky, bouncy, precious puppy. She enjoys playing with toys and cuddle time with her humans.  We are currently working on housebreaking her along with teaching her what to chew and what not to chew.  It is truly amazing how quickly pups grow. It seems like everyday she is noticeably getting bigger.  If you want to enjoy the antics of a pup, the quiet cuddle time after she wears herself from playing..ask to meet Grace. I assure you, your heart will melt.

Schneider

SchneiderClick here for more pictures

Description: Schneider is a very handsome long hair red and black German Shepherd that requires more grooming than most GSDs. He has lived with a family all of his life, but sadly they had to give him up. His family contacted MAGSR as they only wanted what was best for him. Schneider still has a lot of energy and will require a family that will exercise him daily. He enjoys playing; one of his favorite things in the warmer weather is to play with the water hose. Although he has never lived with children he has been exposed to them when nieces and nephews came to visit. Schneider and his new family will be required to attend training; this is a must with all of our dogs. Training is a wonderful thing for not only Schneider, but also for his new family. This is a great way to learn so much about your new family member and help create a lifelong bond. Owning a dog is a big commitment and not one to be taken lightly. Please be sure you are able to commit to Schneider for his lifetime. Schneider is now making appointments to interview potential forever families, please contact us.

Update: Schneider is settling in well at his new foster home. He is living with another dog and two cats. He does well with his new furry pals, but has a habit of chasing the cats. We have been training him to leave the cats alone. So far, he has responded well to the training. He has met several children since arriving at his foster home. All of the children loved him and he absolutely adored their attention. He is a dream to walk on a leash. He listens to simple commands and will do anything for a few pats on the head. If you are an avid runner, he would love to be your new running partner. One day I took him jogging with me, and I swear he had a smile on his face the entire time we jogged around our neighborhood. He is literally a head turner. Everywhere he goes people stop in their tracks to check him out. One lady stated, “He is the most beautiful dog that I have ever seen in my life”. He also loves to cuddle and receive belly rubs. Essentially, he is a loving dog in need of a great home with people willing to meet his needs.

Duke

xxx Click here for more pictures

DESCRIPTION: Duke came to MAGSR as a result of his former family not being able to provide for him in the way that he needed. He was previously in a home with two Min Pins and a Shih Tzu that he got along with just great. They would climb on him, bark in his face and were underfoot. But Duke never so much as batted an eye. He took it all in stride and was fine with them. However, with that being said, what did upset him were things outside of his control such as the sound of wind and odd noises. This was very upsetting to him. He made attempts to urgently snuggle up to his people for comfort and because he is 86lbs, this proved to be a challenge for his people. He may also show signs of having separation anxiety when they left the house. So progressive crate training will be imperative. While Duke has some insecurities, he is a total lovebug and wants nothing more than to be close to his family. During his evaluation, he was a perfect gentleman with our female GSD and he would also do well with children. Do you happen to have a golf cart? He loved to ride around in a golf cart on his property and loves to go for rides in the car. Duke will bond very deeply with his new family, will need to be in a home where he is given love and support and will need to be taken to obedience training so that he can gain a little confidence because a well trained dog is a confident dog. But his new family will need to be patient and fair in his transition. Duke is a gentle giant and he would like nothing more than to be given an opportunity to show you all the love he has for people. But don't let his intimidating physical appearance fool you, he'd much rather lay near you and give you kisses than anything else. Come see Duke and you will see that this sweet, loveable, gentle soul is ready for a family that will provide him with structure and support and he will return your love 10-fold.

Wombley is still very much a pup at only 11 months old. He is full of puppy energy and all the antics that come with being an untrained youngster. Training is so very important for Wombley as it is with all dogs. Training will help both Wombley and his new family learn about each other, create a lifelong bond and most importantly teach Wombley some much needed manners and socialization skills. Are you that special family that Wombley has been waiting for?

DESCRIPTION: Zeke is 10 months old and still very much a puppy.  He is a little shy meeting new people, but does not take long to warm up and become a happy, playful boy.  He once lived in a home with children, cats and another dog which he quite enjoyed.  He has a very soft and fluffy silver/tan sable coat.  He rode very nicely in the car from the shelter to his foster home.  He is very quiet in his crate and has not had any accidents in it.  He is currently in a foster home with 4 other dogs ranging in size from x-small, small, medium and large and is doing well with all.  He seems to have a moderate level of energy with bursts of playfulness, but does settle down nicely.  Zeke will make a wonderful addition to just about any family that will have time to train with him and spend plenty of quality time with him.  Zeke is looking for that perfect family, a family that will commit to him for his lifetime...could that be you?

DESCRIPTION: Kirka is a very beautiful, happy and loveable long-haired GSD. She came to MAGSR because her former person could no longer care for her due to serious health issues. This furkid is extremely sweet! She’s very affectionate and loves to give kisses and follow her person around--a velcro dog! On walks she’s very curious, outgoing and confident and loves meeting people and dogs. She has a lot of personality and often acts silly. Just turned five, she’s playful and exuberant, and she runs well and jumps well. Kirka has been great with her foster parent’s dogs, is completely housebroken and well behaved, walks very well on a leash and is always eager to please. She’s not just a head-turner, but also a wonderful girl who will bring much love and happiness when she finds the loving home she deserves.

Description: Beuler, yes you got it right as in Farris Beuler, is one sweet, lovable, friendly guy that is search of a forever home and family.  Beuler's former family only want what is best for Beuler and felt they could not provide that for him.  His human Dad is overseas serving in Iraq, leaving Beuler's human Mom home to care for the children and the responsibility of running a home and dealing with the everyday challenges life brings all on her own.  It had become all too stressful and knowing that Beuler needed more than what she could give, she reached out to MAGSR.   Beuler has been through basic obedience and is doing well, but he is still very much a puppy and will require further training with his new family -after all, he wants to be the best pup he can be.  He gets along very well with children, other dogs and cats.  Beuler is with our Vet at the moment having a complete check up and we are also trying to find out why he has bouts of diarrhea.  If you are ready to welcome a new family member into your lives, ask to meet Beuler..he is a great pup.

DESCRIPTION: Meet Teddy, Alice, Franklin, Ellie, Jemmy, Dolley, Duke, Abigail, and Tank.  These 9 cuties ended up at animal control after being outside with no shelter.  Mama Jackie appears to be a Dutch Shepherd and was doing all she could to take care of her babies in the freezing weather.  Thank goodness this was reported and this sweet family is now in from the cold enjoying the comforts of a warm foster home with lots of love.  These babies love to cuddle and will be looking for their furever homes very soon.  Teddy and Abigail are the largest, and are both very sweet when it comes to their siblings.  Alice, Dolley, and Ellie are not far behind in size.  They are all about the same weight and are a true mix of Shepherd mixes.  Jemmy, Duke, Franklin, and Tank round out this bunch of munchkins, and likewise are a beautiful mix of Shepherd mixes.

These are babies and will require an infinite amount of patience and love, lots of old newspapers, and patient  positive training - training is so very, very important - and it can and should begin at a young age for a puppy - just as with a young human child.  Please, please do your research before you apply.  Be realistic. We at MAGSR want to make sure that these little cuties have the best home ever. If you feel that you have what it takes to give that home please contact us.

These babies will be ready for adoption after February 18, 2011.

Update from the Puppy Palace: The puppies are doing great and are growing up from little babies into wonderful adolescent pups.  They love to spend long afternoons playing with frisbees, balls, toys, and every leaf that blows by.  The pups have had their second set of shots and check up. On 2/27 Franklin and Abigail weighed in at over 20 #, and the others at 15 to 18 #.  Mama is now in her fur-ever home - Jackie, and a few of the pups are doing great in their new fur-ever homes.

Ellie, Alice, and Frankie have markings similar to their mom (black with brindled legs and face), and the others have black and tan markings.  They are all friendly with people, kids and dogs, and very affectionate and playful.  Jemmy likes to pretend he's in charge, but Abigail and Franklin know they're the big ones in the group (and are likely to be bigger when they grow up too!).  Alice and Ellie don't mind who's in charge, although they stand up for themselves if anyone tries to play too rough.  They all love to play and then sit in your lap and snuggle up!  They are all very good pups needing the normal "huge amount" of patience, love, and guidance that good puppy-rearing requires!

Report from the fur-babies: Now that we're older (like first grade or so) and we're bigger, we're starting all that necessary learnin' (like housetraining).  We're doing real well at using the paper, and we like to do "our thing" outside as long as someone is there to open the door for us right away when nature calls (we're still too young to hold it very long)!   We are working real hard at getting ready for our fur-ever homes.  We are full of love and we're good at making you laugh.  We are absolutely the best looking puppies, and we are so smart it'll make your head spin!

Auntie says to mention that we are still young-uns and full of romping energy and mischief requiring something called "patience."   We think she maybe even said "alot of patience."   Whatever!

talon

DESCRIPTION: Talon came to MAGSR because his former person had serious health issues and was not able to care for him any longer. This furkid is extremely sweet! He’s very affectionate, quite the leaner and a loveable little guy. Though he arrived somewhat shy and reserved, once in a foster home he’s shown that he’s a happy and confident dog. Out on walks he’s very sure of himself when meeting people and dogs. He hadn’t been walked on a leash before, but he walks very well and never pulls. He's well-behaved, eager to please, completely housebroken, playful and has been great with his foster parent’s dogs and cat. He's a great size, very athletic and runs so fast for a GSD. Though he just turned five, several people have mistaken him for an older puppy, and everyone complements what a handsome fellow he is. Talon is a wonderful dog and will be a great addition to the home that gives him the love and affection he’s been missing.
