DESCRIPTION: Meet Martek, MAGSR's newest addition. Martek is a very large, very friendly boy and still very much a pup. He is only 10 months old and has a lot to learn, but with training he will be a wonderful addition to any family. Martek did well meeting other dogs at the Vets office, but we do not know if he is good with cats at this point and we also do not know how he is with children. As Martek is new to us we will post updates on him once we get to know him better. If you would like to get to know Martek better, please contact us to set up an appointment.
UPDATE: Martek is an awesome dog! He is young, friendly, very outgoing and huge! Don't let his size intimidate you though he is a love and settles down nicely. He loves other dogs, loves to play and romp around with toys and what ever else he can find to entertain himself with. He came in contact with a cat which he showed no interest in at all. This may change in a home but for now he says bring anything on! Martek will need to be exercised daily and would be great for an active family. He is a total joy and will surely make you laugh daily. Give us a call and set up an appointment to met Martek, you won't be disappointed.

Description: Carlos was born while in rescue (Mom came to us pregnant) and was adopted out when he was just a few months old, unfortunately his adoptive family has gone through some changes and sadly those changes do not include Carlos. He is a mini shepherd in our books, we know he at least has shepherd in him as Mom was a Shepherd mix, not really sure what Daddy was but he must have been small. Carlos now finds his life turned upside down, understandably he is a little confused as to where his family has gone. He would make a wonderful addition to a family that is looking for a GSD in small package. He is young and active, so he will require a family that will work with him and exercise him on a daily basis. Please ask to meet Carlo's, he so wants to be part of a family again.

DESCRIPTION: Meet Teddy, Alice, Franklin, Ellie, Jemmy, Dolley, Duke, Abigail, and Tank. These 9 cuties ended up at animal control after being outside with no shelter. Mama Jackie appears to be a Dutch Shepherd and was doing all she could to take care of her babies in the freezing weather. Thank goodness this was reported and this sweet family is now in from the cold enjoying the comforts of a warm foster home with lots of love. These babies love to cuddle and will be looking for their furever homes very soon. Teddy and Abigail are the largest, and are both very sweet when it comes to their siblings. Alice, Dolley, and Ellie are not far behind in size. They are all about the same weight and are a true mix of Shepherd mixes. Jemmy, Duke, Franklin, and Tank round out this bunch of munchkins, and likewise are a beautiful mix of Shepherd mixes.
These are babies and will require an infinite amount of patience and love, lots of old newspapers, and patient positive training - training is so very, very important - and it can and should begin at a young age for a puppy - just as with a young human child. Please, please do your research before you apply. Be realistic. These cute, fluffy puppies will grow up and become large dogs fast. Please make sure you can make a commitment to a puppy that will last through their entire lifetime - most of which will be as a big dog - they are only cute and little for a few weeks. As with any puppy, they will try your patience to no end. You will spend much more money than you ever intended to spend on a dog, and you will have things chewed, peed and pooped on, and occasionally strange things swallowed with frantic trips to the emergency vet. You will be ready to throw up your hands - many times! However, if provided with love, guidance, training, and vast amounts of patience, they will love you unconditionally and will be your best friend fur-ever. We at MAGSR want to make sure that these little cuties have the best home ever. If you feel that you have what it takes to give that home please contact us.
These babies will be ready for adoption after February 18, 2011.
Update from the Puppy Palace: The puppies are doing great and are growing up from little babies into wonderful adolescent pups. They love to spend long afternoons playing with frisbees, balls, toys, and every leaf that blows by. The pups have had their second set of shots and check up. On 2/27 Franklin and Abigail weighed in at over 20 #, and the others at 15 to 18 #. Mama is now in her fur-ever home - Jackie, and a few of the pups are doing great in their new fur-ever homes.
Ellie, Alice, and Frankie have markings similar to their mom (black with brindled legs and face), and the others have black and tan markings. They are all friendly with people, kids and dogs, and very affectionate and playful. Jemmy likes to pretend he's in charge, but Abigail and Franklin know they're the big ones in the group (and are likely to be bigger when they grow up too!). Alice and Ellie don't mind who's in charge, although they stand up for themselves if anyone tries to play too rough. They all love to play and then sit in your lap and snuggle up! They are all very good pups needing the normal "huge amount" of patience, love, and guidance that good puppy-rearing requires!
Report from the fur-babies:
Now that we're older (like first grade or so) and we're bigger, we're starting all that necessary learnin' (like housetraining). We're doing real well at using the paper, and we like to do "our thing" outside as long as someone is there to open the door for us right away when nature calls (we're still too young to hold it very long)! We are working real hard at getting ready for our fur-ever homes. We are full of love and we're good at making you laugh. We are absolutely the best looking puppies, and we are so smart it'll make your head spin!
Auntie says to mention that we are still young-uns and full of romping energy and mischief requiring something called "patience." We think she maybe even said "alot of patience." Whatever!

DESCRIPTION: Dolce is a sweet puppy that is in need of a loving forever family and forever home. Dolce was found in the bitter cold roaming the streets, luckily a good Samaritan and animal lover found her and took her into the warmth of her home, providing with her the love and care she needed. Dolce is just a baby, one that will need a lot of patience as she goes through normal puppy behavior. A puppy is not housebroken, you will have accidents in the house, she will chew most anything she can get her teeth on and will get into things that are accessible to her. It is up to her new family to be sure she is safe and to teach her everything she needs to know. Training is so important and will help both you and Dolce be the best girl she can be. A puppy is a big commitment and is one for many years to come. Please be sure that you will commit to Dolce's lifetime of care before applying to adopt.
Update: Dolce is a happy, playful and exuberant puppy. She is very mouthy at this point in her life which is why we are recommending her for older children only. As Dolce lived on the streets and had to fend for herself and fight off who knows what for food, she has some food aggression right now that we are working on. Once her puppy shots are up to date Dolce will be attending much needed training. Currently her foster mom is working with her to help her overcome her resource guarding. Dolce needs to learn that she no longer has to fight for food and that she is now in a safe place with lots of love and care. As with all of our dogs, Dolce will benefit greatly from training and it will be required that she be enrolled in a training class once adopted. Dolce is currently living in a foster home with 1 other dog and 2 cats. They all get along very well. Please consider Dolce when looking to adopt, she is just a pup that needs to know that she has found her forever home and a family who will commit to her for her lifetime.
Update: Woohoo! Dolce here! I'm in a foster home with a Foster Mommy, a 10-year old girl, a couple cats and a wonderful foster sister dog, it doesn't get much better than this! I came here on the 21st of January and have settled right in. My foster sister dog is good at accepting my puppy foolishness (most of the time) and loves to play with me, and the cats… well the cats started out just hisses at me when I tried to play with them, but now they actually come up and rub against me looking for some love. Foster mom said I had to be patient and boy did it pay off!
Foster Mom loves taking me for walks because I behave so well on the leash, even when those outside distractions scare me. There’s so much to learn about out there!! She says for me to remember to tell my forever family that the magic number of walks a day is at least two long ones. That gets all my puppy pent up energy all used up and then I sleep like a baby. Without them, I resemble the Tasmanian Devil more so than the cute puppy that I am! I sure know how to keep my Foster family busy!
Foster Mom and I have been working on my commands, too. So far I’m just great at my Sit, Shake and even Speak, and my Down is getting pretty darn good too, especially when it's time to go through a door or wait for my food bowl. Now we’ve moved on to mastering my "Stay" and “Come” commands. Why stay and come when there's so much to do, but Foster Mom says it's a must. We just started really focusing on getting those down pat, and because I’m so smart, Foster Mommy thinks I’ll have it down in no time!
It’s hard to believe I’ve been here for a whole month! Time sure flies when we’re having fun! I'm such a big girl now compared to when I got here!! I weighed 12 lbs and now I weigh 30 !!! Isn’t that crazy?? My Foster Mom says if she sat very still and watched me, she bets she could actually see me growing, and by the looks of my gigantic paws, I’m going to be one big, beautiful girl!! The only problem with being so big is that people might think I’m older than just 3 months and expect me to be better at the housetraining thing. I’m trying my very best to remember to go potty outside, but I don’t have that down yet. My Foster Mommy knows though that at my young age, it’s not my fault and to expect accidents, but I like it so much better when I remember, because everyone is so proud of me and I get so many hugs and kisses! I’ll keep working hard at that one.
I’m also about to start working with a real trainer to help me with my resource guarding. It’s still hard for me to forget my early start in life on the streets, but I’m getting better every day. All in all, life is good. Everyone is so happy to be a part of my life, and I know with all the help from my MAGSR family, I’ll make someone the best dog ever. I think they really love me here!

DESCRIPTION: Meet the very pretty and quite shy little girl, Adair. She was surrendered to a shelter as his owners no longer had time for her. Adair is rather shy and skittish. She would benefit greatly from a foster home where she can learn to trust and experience the kindness and love of a human. If you take your time with Adair she will come up to you for petting, once comfortable she turns into a happy, tail wagging baby. Adair is understandably confused right now and will need someone with patience and understanding to help build her confidence. Training will also help Adair with her confidence and with bonding closely with her new family. Ask to meet Adair!
UPDATE: Hello Everyone. I've been with MAGSR for a couple of weeks now, and i'm meeting all the wonderful volunteers here, and they are great. I get belly rubs, treats, ear scratches, and I get to run around in the play yard and show off. I go for long walks with other people and dogs. I will need training of course, because it will bond us like a family should be and make me into the perfect family member I know I can be. Come up to the kennel and see me. I'll be waiting.

DESCRIPTION: Murphy is one of 6 breeding dogs that were confiscated due to neglect. Murphy along with his kennel mates, Hannah, Sable, Halley, Rogue and Wesley seem to have had little to no human contact and had never had a collar or leash on. Upon arriving in our care they were all very skittish, unsure of humans, had no idea what was around their necks and wanted to do nothing more than hide. They immediately came off transport and went to be checked out by our Vets, receive medical care and were spayed/neutered. They have been with us for a few weeks now and are starting to become more comfortable with being handled and enjoy going for walks. They are excited to see the volunteers and will come up to take treats. They have made tremendous progress in a short time. Training will go a very long way with Murphy and is a requirement for anyone looking to adopt from us. Training will help not only Murphy, but also his new family learn to work together and build a lifelong bond. Murphy will require a GSD knowledgeable family, one that is calm and will take a slow easy approach with him. Once he learns to trust he will become your BFF. If you are interested in learning more about Murphy please contact us.
Update: Murphy is now in a foster home with a comfy bed, lots of great food, treats, love and understanding. He is living with 4 other male dogs, 1 large, 1 med, 1 small and 1 extra small. He will bark at them if they approach his crate, but once out of the crate he gets along with all of them very well. He does well in his crate, no accidents, no whining and sleeps through the night without a sound. Murphy has so much to learn and become accustomed to as he has never lived in a home before. Noises and things that we and our pets take for granted, Murphy is leery of. When Murphy first saw a television and heard the sounds from it he ran and got in his crate, sounds of alarm clocks, doors opening and closing, toilets flushing, microwave's peeping, vacuums, hair dryers, virtually all everyday household sounds are new to him. With time, patience and exposure Murphy will learn to accept these things and will no longer be fearful of them. Murphy loves to go for walks and has enjoyed playing in the recent snowfall. He has learned to walk pretty well on the leash and is no longer afraid of it. When first meeting new people he proceeds with caution, he is very gentle and bonds very quickly to his caregiver. At this time Murphy has so much to experience in the world, so he is still considered a flight risk at this time. He must be on a secure leash at all times when outside of a home, as when something startles him he wants to run and hide from it. Murphy would do well in a home with someone that has the time and patience to devote to him, a home where he will be secure and safe. With all of this and training he will learn that the world is wonderful place and pay you back with lots of love, devotion and companionship.

DESCRIPTION: Zoe's family fell on hard times, as so many people have with the economy. Sadly her family had to make the very heart breaking decision to re-home Zoe, this decision was not made lightly. Wanting what is best for Zoe they contacted MAGSR to help find Zoe a new family and home. Zoe is a beautiful young girl that has been well cared for, she was living with children and another dog all of which got along very well. Zoe is a high energy girl that will require a family that is able to exercise her daily, lots of walks, games of fetch (Zoe loves to play fetch) and of course training. Zoe does know sit, shake and readily gives you her paw, but she really needs to learn leash manners and how to direct her energy. Training is a must, as it is with all of our dogs. This will help both Zoe and her new family learn more about each other and create a lifelong bond. If you are looking for a girl to get into agility or some other sport Zoe is your girl. Do you think you have what it takes to keep up with Zoe? If so, ask to meet Zoe, she is ready to meet you!!! |

DESCRIPTION: Brooklyn was a stray out roaming the streets of the city. Unfortunately she was hit by a car and sustained many scrapes, cuts and injury to her back leg/knee. With no collar, tags or a micro chip there was no way of finding her family so that she could receive the urgent care she required. MAGSR was contacted to see if we could provide her with the medical care she required and a foster home for Brooklyn recuperate in. Although MAGSR was not financially in a position to afford another costly orthopedic surgery at the time, the thought of sweet Brooklyn being alone and in pain we had to say yes. Brooklyn has surgery to repair the extensive damage she sustained to her rear leg/knee. Brooklyn is now with a wonderful foster family on crate rest for an extended period of time, only being allowed out of her crate for potty walks. This can be most challenging with a young dog such as Brooklyn but she is dealing with it extremely well. She does fine in her crate both during the day and at night, she has had no accidents at all and stays pretty calm and quiet. Brooklyn will require physiotherapy at some point to help with gaining full use of the leg/knee. Once she is back on all four she will need to learn some leash manners, it is evident by her pulling that she has not had any type of training. Brooklyn is a beautiful girl both inside and out with a friendly and sweet disposition. Brooklyn would love to have a home and family of her very own, one that will take care of her and provide her with lots of love, comfort and a soft warm bed. Please consider making Brooklyn a family member, she so deserves it and will pay you back with loyalty and lots of love.

DESCRIPTION: King was brought to the shelter in hopes of finding a new family as his owner is very sick and no longer able to care for him. King is a wonderful boy that gets along with other dogs and children of all ages. He is understandably very confused at this time, not knowing why he has lost the only family he has ever known. He has such a worried and confused look on his face. He is very friendly, but shy when meeting people he does not know. With all of the recent changes in his life King needs to know that he is safe and loved. He will need a family that will take things slow with him as he goes through the adjustment of a new home and family. King would love to have a family of his very own, one that will provide stability, love and care for the rest of his life. Are you that special person/family that King is looking for?
Update: King is a typical lanky "teenager" with a very sweet disposition, whose mission in life is to play and have fun. He loves to fetch sticks, balls and most any stuffed toy. For all his puppy energy he walks very well on a leash, knows sit, down and stay (for a little bit any way so we are working on that) and loves to cuddle--for short periods anyway...what teenage guy wants to be caught cuddling with his mom. King does well with all of the dogs at my house but as they are all older no one can really keep up with him. He would simply love to have a younger sibling to run around with...literally. King is fully house-trained and sleeps in a crate at night without making a peep. He is a wonderful boy, ask to meet him soon as he won't be with us long.

Auntie says to mention that we are still young-uns and full of romping energy and mischief requiring something called "patience." We think she maybe even said "alot of patience." Whatever!

Update: Dolley here... I am one happy puppy looking for her furever home.. I really love it here with my foster family and I know they love me.. I snuggle with them and they tell me what a good girl I am....They tell me they love me and I can stay as long as it takes to find the perfect furever family.. I really really love other dogs and kids and would love some of my very own to call family! I am doing really well with house-breaking and will use puppy pads if I can't get outside quick enough.. I thought that was pretty impressive for a girl that is only 9 weeks old... My favorite treat is ice cubes and I run to the freezer everytime I heard the ice maker.. I enjoy playing outside and am learning about a thing called a leash.. I sleep in a crate all night long and don't mind it much. My foster family says I am in the chewing stage so they have been giving me tons of things to chew on and keep me busy.. So if I sound like I might be a good fit and you have patience for my many puppy tendancies... I am taking applications!

Description: Wesley is one of 6 breeding dogs that were confiscated due to neglect. Wesley along with his kennel mates, Rogue, Sable, Halley, Murphy and Hannah seem to have had little to no human contact and had never had a collar or leash on. Training will go a very long way with Wesley and is a requirement for anyone looking to adopt from us. Training will help not only Wesley but also his new family to learn to work together and build a lifelong bond. Wesley will require a GSD knowledgeable family, one that is calm and will take a slow easy approach with him. Once he learns to trust he will become your BFF. If you are interested in learning more about Wesley please contact us.
Update: Hi it's me Wes! Just an update on how I am doing in my foster home. I was recently treated for panosteitis which is basically growing pains. Yep, I am still growing. I am a big boy and am filling out nicely. See the thing is I was not fed well before I was saved by MAGSR and once I came to their rescue and started getting good food, the care that I needed I started to blossom. I am crate trained and housebroken. I love love love toys and the company of other dogs. I am working on my basic commands and doing great on my leash manners all which will help with my self confidence. I can be fearful of new things and people but everything is new to me. Right now I am just having fun learning and playing. The picture above is me on the right with one of my favorite fur brothers. We play for hours on end.

Description: Hi Rider here, wow am I thankful to be in the care of MAGSR. Before coming to MAGSR I was a stray wandering the streets looking for someone to care for me. Well as luck would have it I wandered into the backyard of a very nice family who took me in to see if they could find my family. While there I lived with lots of children, dogs and cats, was that fun..I got along with everyone. Sadly, no one came looking for me so I ended up at the shelter, the family that took me in loved me but could not have anymore pets. My past is all behind me now and I am ready for a new forever home and family. I am crate trained, although I would rather be out playing and being loved on. I enjoy playing fetch and have a great time playing all myself, but I am willing to learn to bring the ball back you just have to teach me. I am also a big boy..I do not have accidents in my crate or the house. I am still very much a puppy and have a lot to learn about the things they call manners, leashes and training, but hey I am willing to learn. Well have to run, I see a tennis ball with my name on it...hope you will make an appointment to meet me, I'd love for you to see how special I am.

DESCRIPTION: Before coming to MAGSR, for months Curtsy had no home or family to call her own. She lived off of food that a few caring people left for her and found shelter from the harsh elements wherever she could. But now, she is being reminded of what it is like to be cared for, nurtured, touched and all around loved. While Curtsy is somewhat reserved, she is very willing to lie at your side while you gently scratch her chin or head. She is willing to be leashed and walk with you as she learns about her new surroundings. She's up for new adventures. Based upon her behavior, it appears that she once had a home and she oh so gently takes treats, licks your hand and is an all around polite little lady showing some very good food etiquette. The vet and staff are all quickly becoming quite fond of her and everyone finds her a joy to be around. They light up when they speak of her or interact with her. For now, she's pretty laid back as she is catching up on some much overdue rest. It is possible that as she regains her confidence, we will see her come out of her shell a little more. But while her recent background was very lonely, sad and desolate, she has shown an amazing grace and willingness to trust and love humans.
For now, her ideal home would have as little chaos as possible and consistent in habit and function. She needs consistency and leadership in her daily routine.
We still have some to learn about Curtsy and will keep her many admirers updated. But as for what we have seen so far, she's an absolute sweeti-pie!

DESCRIPTION: Meet the stunning Meadow, our newest addition to the MAGSR family. Meadow was found as a stray and taken in by a very caring person in hopes of finding Meadow's family. When no one ever came looking for Meadow her caregiver reached out to MAGSR to find Meadow a wonderful home. Meadow is still very much a puppy, a highly active, playful and loving girl that has a lot to learn. Meadow is now residing in a foster home where she is learning all the finer points of being a well mannered pup. Watch for updates from her foster family as they get to know her better.
Update: Meadow has been with us for a few days, and she is a real pleasure to have around. While at six months or thereabouts Meadow is still mostly a puppy, she seems to be fully housebroken, and is smart as a whip. She gets along very well with our older male GSD, knows how to sit and down, walks on the leash very well, and is very attentive and responsive. Meadow is very sweet and very playful, but she can get a bit impatient when she is not getting her way – she will bark, yip, and whine, and she can sometimes get a little mouthy when she is excited. But she is learning pretty quickly that things are not always going to go the way she thinks they should, and takes correction very well.
Meadow still has that seemingly endless puppy energy, so almost no sooner do we come back from a walk, or inside from playing in the yard, that she is ready to go again. But we have been doing a pretty good job of wearing her out, and she sleeps very quietly through the night in a crate in our bedroom. Meadow is a really beautiful young dog with a great personality. She may be a bit “high maintenance,” like most shepherds – but she is definitely worth it, and is certain to mature into a wonderful dog for some lucky family.

DESCRIPTION: Logan is a German Shepherd Wannabe. He is proud to be an honorary shepherd and tries his very best to live up to a GSD's high standards! Logan was happy to be part of a family at one point, where he lived and got along with a German Shepherd and German Shepherd mix. Things did not work out for Logan which was no fault of his. DESCRIPTION: Meet Angel one of MAGSR's many medical needs dogs. MAGSR received a plea from our Vet that a dog was brought to their office as she was limping. The owner could not afford any medical treatment for this sweet girl, so they surrendered her to the Vet. Upon reviewing her x-rays it was noted that her leg was broken in 2 places and that she required the care of a specialist. On Christmas Eve one of our wonderful volunteers picked Angel up and transported her to the specialist. Angel will be undergoing surgery to repair the breaks to her femur. Through all of the pain she has endured Angel has remained very sweet and loving. Please keep our sweet Angel in your thoughts as she undergoes her surgery and recovery period. Once Angel is home with her foster Mom we will have more updates.
Angel's surgery is quite expensive, please consider donating to her care so that we may continue to bring in medical need dogs.
Angel sends sweet holidays kisses to all, as without each and everyone of our volunteers and donors, dogs like Angel would not have a second chance at life.

Description: Remi and his
housemate, Asia, were returned to us when their owner suddenly passed
away. They had lived all their lives with this person, adopted as
puppies; and in a very short time have had their lives turned upside
down. Both dogs are adjusting very well considering the
circumstances.. They are nice sweet senior dogs and love people,
get along with dogs and are, or course, very comfortable in a home
setting. We at MAGSR would like to return them to a settled home
as quickly as we can. A kennel - although better than the
alternative - is no place for an older dog. Remi is a hoot and the
younger of the two. He still has a lot of vim and vigor, although
his bones are starting to be a bit creaky - which is to be expected in a
senior dog. Remi could really use a home - a nice soft bed, some
good supplements and loving care in his golden years. He is a
handsome "mature" man! Gets along with other dogs. Has a
smile for everyone! He is very friendly, loves to be petted and
loved on and promises to be a "good boy" for his new forever home.
He would like good food - needs to trim down a bit :) - a few
walks every day to keep the old bones moving nicely, and quiet time with
his folks; he listens very well - you can tell him all your secrets!
Remi is is waiting now for another chance at life. He
is definitely a "people dog" and a family is what will complete
him. He would like to live his golden years with a family
again. A foster home while he is waiting would be wonderful!
Ask to meet Remi and shake his paw. He will give you a shake,
hand you the leash and be your best pal forever! :) |

DESCRIPTION: This
sweet and gentle mature man has lost his way and apparently lost his
home. He was picked up as a stray and no one came forward to claim
him, although he did have on a collar, there were no tags and no
chip...so he was not in a good place when MAGSR stepped in...and this is
a shame. Gatlin is a nice guy - he could really use a home and
some friends right now. It is so hard to understand how a dog his age
could be missing and no one missed him enough so he ends up in a shelter
with his life on the line. Hard as it may be to comprehend, it
happens. Now Gatlin was obviously "someone's dog"; but it is not
known if he was an inside or outside dog - or if he spent his time in
both places. This nice gent has manners, walks ok on the leash and
simply charms every one he meets. Gatlin was taken to the vets to
have his vaccines updated, get some tests run and to be neutered.
During his examination he was found to be in kidney failure - the early
stages of renal disease and will need a special diet and maybe some
medication for the rest of his years. The prognosis is very good
and there is no reason why this nice dog cannot enjoy his remaining
years in the company of a loving home. Gatlin will make a
wonderful companion. He is definitely not a crazy pup. He is
a dignified and majestic German Shepherd - and he looks it.
Gatlin is at the vet's office now and could really use a foster
home. Please give this boy a second chance. He deserves it.
Gatlin is waiting - please contact us to arrange a meeting.
Update: Gatlin is housebroken, weighs between 55 - 60 lbs (probably his ideal
size), and is good with cats. (Don't know about kids, but he is
pretty much good with anything.) Gatlin LOVES to go for walks and
is not bad on the leash, although he needs more work. He cannot
get too much attention. He would climb in your lap and let you pet
him all night. I think he'd be great for someone who is more
low-key, but he also likes activity. He is pushy for attention,
but is in general not a dominant dog. He doesn't back down from a
confrontation, though, even with his much larger siblings. (No
major fights, just quarrels.) He isn't too interested in toys but
really likes chewing on bones. He tries to eat Frosty Paws cup and
all, so I definitely have to scoop it out and give it to him in a
dish. He can be a pest about begging for food. Most of all,
he is a real sweetheart who just wants love.

Description:
Georgia has made a long journey to get to MAGSR. She was picked up as a stray in GA where she has been residing in a shelter. Georgia is a sweet and affectionate girl and got along well with the other dogs she met while living at the shelter. Georgia is looking for a home and family of her very own. A family that will include her in their daily activities and commit to caring for her for the rest of her life. Georgia will benefit greatly from training with her new family. Training will help build a bond with her new family and teach her to be the best dog she can be. If you are interested in meeting Georgia please set up an appointment to spend some time getting to know her better.
Update: Hi folks, Georgia here, takin' time out of my busy schedule to tell you a lil about myself real quick, I have to play ball with my friends. I'm a very active girl and love to run and jump, I would be a great agility student. But first I need a good obedience training schedule. I'm learning my manners and how to be a good partner for long walks, even jogs. But I really need more. I'm looking for a family, which I can't remember ever havin', because I was all by myself for so long. Would love a soft bed, good food, lots of play time, some treats for my well deserved good behavior, which i'm working on thanks to the wonderful volunteers @ MAGSR, that spend countless hours with me. Please ask to meet me, you won't be disappointed. Oh and would it be too soon to ask for some belly rubs? Thanks, can't wait to meet you.

DESCRIPTION: Sadly
Bear along with his adopted friend Lady have been returned to us as
their owner is in ill health and can no longer care for them.
Unfortunately this is not the first time that Bear has found himself
looking for a home and family that will commit to a lifetime of love
and comfort. When Bear first came to us he was a very sick boy.
He was taken to the shelter after severely injuring his tail
somehow because his owner stated that the family could not afford
vet care for him. His tail was so badly infected that it had
to be amputated and he was pulled from the shelter and placed in a
temporary "safe home" awaiting rescue. His rescuers drove many
hours to get him to his MAGSR foster home. Bear was adopted in
2009 and lived in a house with teenagers and his fur friend
Lady. He is handsome, sweet gentle boy that needs a place to
finally rest his paws once and for all. A family that will cherish
him for his lifetime, provide him with love and security. If
you are that family, Bear would love to meet you.
Update: Hi, Bear here! I wanted to give everyone an update on how I have been doing in my foster home. When I first came here, I was 108lbs and had to go on a diet. I hated this thing they call a crate but after realizing I get TREATS when going into it, I will happily run over to it and get in now. I am down to a good weight now at about. I love all people but am not quite sure about the little crying ones.
My foster mommy says she has never seen a dog settle in so fast, like I had lived here my entire life. I am housebroken, listen well, have already learned “Sit”, “Down”, “Heel” and “Wait”. I love the other dogs here (a female GSD and a female 30lb dog), just as long as they do not try to take my favorite ball. Then I bark at them but end up sitting and waiting until they get tired of it so I can steal it back.
My absolute favorite thing (besides my giant Coz ball and bellyrubs) is to go for a walk! My foster mommy says I am a delight to walk and I heel quite nicely. I love going in the car and ride very quietly and calmly. They tell me what a good boy I am except sometimes I bark at small fluffy dogs. My foster mom says I will need my new family to take me to class, whatever that is. She says it is fun as well as help me learn to not bark at the small fluffy dogs. I am not sure how I would feel about a cat but I am the kind of guy that wants more than anything to please you and I listen very well to commands so maybe we can work something out.
The vet says my hips look great but unfortunately, I have a pretty bad spinal condition called spondylosis. I will need to be on pain medication for the rest of my life but let me tell you, I am a new dog on this stuff! My back is stiff so I am not as flexible as the female GSD here but we still run and play just like any other 2 dogs and we love to wrestle! My foster mommy says I will have to have my blood checked every 6 weeks to make sure the pain medications do not cause any damage to my liver but that is ok with me because I love going to the vet and I am a perfect gentleman when they draw my blood. Everyone at the vet office just loves me and comes out to see me whenever I go in. What can I say? I am one handsome, sweet and gentle guy! And oh yea, I do not have a tail but everyone thinks it is so cute, especially when I try to wag it! I love the attention so who needs a tail anyhow?

It breaks my heart to tell you ...
DESCRIPTION: Karl is one of
those terribly sad sad cases that can break your heart. An animal
control officer spotted him digging through garbage looking for
food; he watched him stumble and fall. Karl was so weak that the
officer had to pick him up and lift him into his truck. Everyone at the
shelter was touched by this dog's sweet and gentle nature and turned to
MAGSR to help him. In his extremely poor condition there would be no
alternative but for the shelter to euthanize this dog. Not many rescues
or adopters would want an older dog in such poor shape but we at MAGSR
could not turn our back on this sweet old guy.
Karl is so horrifically thin that every
rib and every vertebrae in his back is visible. His hair is patchy and
very sparse, and he is so weak from prolonged starvation he can barely
stand. He is literally a walking skeleton. As starved as he is and
as hungry as he must have been, he will still take treats very gently
and carefully. Karl's condition at this time is very
fragile, He is still so extremely weak that at this time we do not
know if he will recover from what appears to be prolonged starvation
and obvious serious neglect. However, we are making sure that he
will spend his time from now on with people who will envelope him
with love and care while making sure he is never hungry or cold again.
In spite of all the horror that he has been through, Karl is a sweet and
dignified gentleman with gentle and soulful eyes.
We will keep his page updated with new pictures
and continuing news of his progress.
If you would like to help Karl or help MAGSR to help others like him, please consider sponsoring him and his friends here at MAGSR.
Update: We are so very pleased
to report that Karl is looking and feeling better, day by day. His coat
is filling in and becoming thicker, he looks less worried and he has
gained almost 20 pounds! However even with somewhat improved muscle tone
- (he had NONE) - he is still very wobbly in his hind end and his back
legs. He has trouble standing and his back legs will just give out on
him from time to time. Because of this, we decided to take him to one of
our orthopedic specialists for an opinion and possibly a diagnosis, a
prognosis and hopefully a plan of action.
During the examination, gentle and dignified
Karl was truly a gentleman and endured all that pinching, poking,
stretching, manipulating and prodding like he knew that he was really
being helped......not a peep, not a scowl or a growl; Karl is a gem! The
results of the examination were inconclusive. Karl's weaknesses can be
attributed to a number of reasons: The signals from his brain are not
getting through to his hind legs well enough to keep them coordinated
and behaving like back legs should! Karl does get embarrassed a little
when his front end and his back end do end up going separate ways and he
kerplunks on his kisser! :) The only way to narrow down what is wrong
is for our brave warrior to have an MRI. We are making arrangements now
to take Karl for his MRI. This is not an inexpensive procedure and will
put an additional burden on MAGSR's already stretched and depleted
medical funds.
MAGSR and Karl are grateful to each and every
one who has contributed to his rehabilitation in the past and are
continuing to do so. He would never had had a chance before to know
human kindness and love. He has come so far! His foster mom loves him
and cooks special meals for him each day! He is still skinny and wobbly,
but his eyes tell it all. :) Those beautiful, kind and soulful eyes
thank you...and will continue to thank you. Please help us again to help
Karl and his friends here at MAGSR. These wonderful, beautiful dogs
rely on our kindness and compassion. Please, please continue to support
Karl and his friends through our medical fund. We at MAGSR truly cannot
do what we do without the financial support of all our friends. Karl
sends his love. :)
Update: Well, Karl has had his
MRI, and the results show that Karl's spine is a ticking time bomb. He
has two bad discs in the middle of his back which are causing the nerve
impulses not to transmit clearly to his back legs, thus causing him to
be so unstable. It isn't just a matter of his being wobbly, if these
discs rupture which could happen in a year, a month or tomorrow, he will
be paralyzed. It is obvious that it is painful for Karl when he turns a
certain way, and while his weight gain in one way was great for him,
that same weight is now putting an additional strain on his back and
those two bad discs -- which is why he is now even more unsteady. Karl
will definitely require surgery. The prognosis with surgery is good with
hopefully noticeable improvement. The point of the surgery would not be
to improve his mobility, it would be to prevent rupture and paralysis
while maintaining the mobility that he has now with the hopes of
eventually improving it. Karl's surgery will cost between $2,400 and
$3,600 and his recovery time will consist of about 6 months. Once again,
we at MAGSR express our gratitude to all that have, and to those that
will continue to support Karl and his friends through our medical fund..
Each and every one of you have our heartfelt thanks. There is no way
these expensive procedures can be done without your kindness and
generosity. We cannot help the dogs without you! Thank you! Karl sends
his love! :)
Update: Karl has
certainly come a long way since he was found amidst the garbage and
taken into the shelter with not much hope for survival.
Skinny, scrawny, Karl! . He has beat it all - well most of it
anyway. :) Karl is one handsome dude right now! He has
gained enough weight and grown enough beautiful hair so that he now
resembles the most handsome of German Shepherds, thank you very
much! He has survived his surgeries, has been recently
neutered and aside from a little wobble when he walks, he is A-OK. He
will require some physical therapy - but will do fine with a loving mom
or dad by his side. This gentle giant with the beautiful, soulful eyes
thanks everyone that helped him.....without your help he would not be
here today. Karl is now ready to go home! Please contact us
to arrange to meet him.

DESCRIPTION: Nora is one lucky girl!!!! Nora sustained a gunshot to her shoulder for which she required surgery to repair the damage. Following her surgery Nora needed to be kept quiet and on crate rest and a shelter was no place to recoup from such an ordeal. MAGSR was contacted to see if we could take Nora into our program and provide her with a foster home and the care she required; of course we said yes. Nora is now resting comfortably in her foster home and recouping from her surgery. At this time Nora is not available for adoption as she must finish her recuperation, but we do expect her to make a full recovery and be ready for her forever loving family and home soon.
Please consider donating to our medical fund. With your donation we are able to continue to help dogs like Nora receive the medical attention they need. All donations are tax deductible. We can only do what we do with the kind and generous support of our many wonderful donors and volunteers....thank you!

Description: Well, here we have Stormin' Norman - just arrived and ready to take on the world! ;) Norman is a handsome boy who just needs a little fine tuning and some polishing up. He was returned to the shelter he was adopted from because he really could not see any good in getting along with the resident cats. He is house trained and is, all and all, a pretty friendly guy; but he does need training, big time. Pulls like a mule on the leash, and is strong as a bull. Norman will definitely need a committed training program and an experienced owner/handler. Norman can be a bit reactive and training in a group setting will definitely help to make him a well rounded and happy boy. He is waiting now to meet his perfect family. Think you have what it takes to give this boy a second chance at true happiness and a lifetime of belly rubs and good kibble? Norman is waiting to meet you. |

DESCRIPTION: Fritz is new to us, we are getting to know him better. What we do is that Fritz was in a shelter where a number of the staff and volunteers saw a great boy that needed proper handling and direction. They knew that he needed to go to a knowledgeable GSD rescue, so they contacted MAGSR. Fritz is a big boy and very true to the breed. He will require a GSD experienced and knowledgeable family. One that will commit to training with him. Fritz has had no direction in his life, no formal training which is something he truly needs. Fritz is not for a first time German Shepherd owner. He would do well in search and rescue, or agility, or another type of job that will keep his mind occupied, If you meet the requirements, are strong and knowledgeable GSD handler please contact us and we will discuss Fritz with you.
Update: Hi Everyone, I've been with MAGSR a couple of weeks now, and MAN, let me tell you they have shown me what good livin' can be. I'm in a special training group on Thursdays, and let me tell you I LOVE IT. I'm a very smart young fellow, probably smarter than your average bear (or gsd) :) Thank you very much. I'm full of energy, love to go the extra mile (with my set rules) which I so desparately need. I don't want the weight of the world (or family) on my shoulders anymore. I just wanna be a great family member, and I need a good training schedule, and strong parents/family because my youth sometimes (most of the time) gets the best of me. If you are an experienced gsd-wanna-be, then please come to meet me. You won't be disappointed.

Description: Dexter's is another sad face that goes with a story that will break your heart. Dexter was caught in a trap by Animal Control and then brought to the pound...he was rescued as such from this place and taken to the vets. His pictures were posted to rescues by caring volunteers in hopes that someone would come forward to help this poor little guy - who obviously had not had many good breaks in his life at all. MAGSR arranged to have him brought to us - and many, many caring people were responsible for getting this scruffy little guy with a horrendous case of mange to safety. He was brought to us, given to his very loving foster mom and made comfortable - as comfortable as possible given his horrible condition - and arrangements were made to get him to the vet to assess his condition further and come up with a plan of action to address his condition.
Unfortunately, Dexter had some kind of a reaction to his medication and has taken a very bad turn. He is currently in Emergency Care and fighting to hang on. Dexter is special - as all our dogs at MAGSR are special - but he is extra special. :) He is so pathetic and so horrible to look at, you know he is in pain. To look at his pictures brings tears. His head and his body are nothing but a mass of bloody and oozing sores - and to top it off, we are not sure if the blindness that he is experiencing now because of his condition will be permanent. We are hoping that he will make it - right now - it is not a sure thing. We will help Dexter fight this fight as best we can.
We are incurring a tremendous expense for his care. We have an already significantly depleted medical fund because of recent surgeries for at least three of our dogs, and the PARVO puppies and their mama, whose care was also horrendously expensive. Please, please consider contributing to our Medical Fund to help Dexter and the others. We cannot, - absolutely cannot - help these dogs without your help. We think every one of them is worth it - and we know that you do, too. MAGSR thanks you all.
Update: Thank you very much to everyone that has donated to MAGSR for my care. As you know I was hospitalized recently and with all the love and support I received, I am now on the road to recovery. I gave my foster mom quite a scare. I had a really bad reaction to Ivermectin – I lost my sight and wasn’t able to walk. Thank goodness my mom rushed me to see my doctor because I may not have made it. Since being released from the hospital, I've been gaining weight, my vision has returned, and I'm able to strut through my neighborhood on our family walks. I’m still undergoing treatment for demodex mange but my hair is growing back and I must say- I’m a really handsome dude. My foster mom tells me not to worry and I can beat anything because I'm a MAGSR dog now.
Update: Hi Folks. In case you're wondering how i'm doing, look @ my Santa photo. This is me NOW. My hair has grown back BEAUTIFULLY, and i've gained some much needed weight. I gave MAGSR quite a scare in the beginning, but you know what? They NEVER gave up on me, and promised me that they would do whatever it takes to give me a wonderful life I deserve. Which includes a loving, active family. I am still a puppy inside and out, very active, love belly rubs, jogging, long walks, good food, lots of water and treats. I love to play, as a puppy should, but do need obedience training, as it will teach me to be the perfect family member I should be. I am such a wonderful puppy, the volunteers spend countless hours with me and I love every minute of it. They are teaching me alot of manners, which I was lacking when I came in. I love to learn new things, and show off for new people and pups. Come and meet me, are you the family for me? We'll only find out when we meet. See you soon!

Description: Hannah is one of 6 breeding dogs that were confiscated due to neglect. Hannah along with her kennel mates, Rogue, Sable, Halley, Murphy and Wesley seem to have had little to no human contact and had never had a collar or leash on. Training will go a very long way with Hannah and is a requirement for anyone looking to adopt from us. Training will help not only Hannah but also her new family to learn to work together and build a lifelong bond. Hannah will require a GSD knowledgeable family, one that is calm and will take a slow easy approach with her. Once she learns to trust she will become your BFF. If you are interested in learning more about Hannah please contact us.

Description: Utah's owner took ill and had to be hospitalized, with no other family members there was no one to care for Utah and he ended up in the shelter. We are still learning about him, but we can tell you he is a big handsome boy. He has gone through a lot of changes but seems to be taking them in stride. He is currently in a foster home with 2 resident dogs and a resident cat to help him adjust to the changes. His foster mom will provide an update once he has settled in. Without proper training and guidance a big boy such as Utah could become hard to handle, so training is a must, it not only helps with teaching good dog manners, but also creates a lifelong bond. DESCRIPTION: Mac
here, I am looking for a new home and family that will commit to me for
my lifetime. You see I once had a family but for some reason they
decided they did not want me anymore and took me to a shelter. The
shelter staff saw what a great boy I am so they got the nice people from
MAGSR come look at me and here I am. My former family had children
aged 1 year and up and I adored them. I enjoy going for walks, playing
ball and especially love kids. Although I enjoy playing I am not a high
energy boy, I am calm and enjoy being by my peoples side. I am pretty
smart too, I already know sit, stay and paw, so I will excel at training
and make you proud. Oh, I forgot to mention that I am very handsome
with unique yellow eye's. Make an appointment to meet me, I would love
to shake your hand and see if you are the right family for me.
Update: Hi folks, just checking in to give you an update on ME. I've been with MAGSR for a few weeks now, and am learning so much here. The volunteers wanna teach me how to be a great family member, as I should be. Let me tell you a little about me. I am a puppy in a BIG DOG BODY. I'm learning manners, but can be kind of a WILD CHILD @ times, as my puppyish attitude gets the best of me. I love to play in the play yard with the volunteers to burn off the built up energy before we go for a long walk, which I love, and I also like joggin'. I love to hang out under the trees on a blanket afterwards and get belly rubs. Oh is that too much to ask right now? I would love a soft bed, maybe a warm fireplace, good food, some well deserved treats for my well learned behavior. Which you will see when you come to meet me. I love kids, all shape and sizes. Big or small family, i'm not picky. I'm waiting to meet you.

stray and is now looking for a family and home to enjoy his life with.
Dunkin is a very unique color, his coat is an extraordinary color
combination of smoke and tan. Wow, is he gorgeous. He has a high
energy level and will require daily activity and training. He would do
well in a family that enjoys doing outdoor activities, long walks,
jogging, hiking etc.. This will help Dunkin keep his energy level in
check when he is resting comfortably at home. He is very smart and will
do very well at training, which not only will help him to be the best
boy he can, but also helps build a bond with his new family. If you are
an active person/family and are looking for a dog to explore all the
world has to offer then Dunkin may just be your boy. Please schedule an
appointment to meet him and get to know him better.
Update: Sadly, Dunkin has taken ill. He had to be rushed to the Emergency Vet. on Sunday Oct. 31, 2010 as he had severe diarrhea, vomiting and was experiencing difficulty breathing. He has been diagnosed with pneumonia, which is in his entire left lobe. He is being kept in Intensive Care in an oxygen tent to help him breath. Dunkin will require a number of days in the hospital with round the clock care. Please keep Dunkin in your thoughts as he struggles to hang on. Any donations made towards Dunkin's extensive medical bills would be greatly appreciated. Through the kindness of our donors we able to continue to care for all of the dogs in the rescue and the many more waiting to be saved.
Update: Dunkin has been released from the Vets care and is now residing in a foster home. He still has some meds to finish and some weight to gain, but is doing well. He is now residing with 4 other fur friends and getting along well. He is housebroken and crate trained, although he does not go in his crate willingly and barks a bit at first and then settles. He enjoys going for walks, but needs to learn some leash manners which we are working on. He is excitable, but settles quickly. He enjoys being with people and loves attention. He bonds very quickly with people and looks to them for guidance. Dunkin is now ready to meet potential adopters. If you are looking for a very handsome (must be that unique coloration) and loving pup then Dunkin is your boy.

DESCRIPTION: Kieser is a big handsome, longish hair GSD. Unfortunately his owner was diagnosed with cancer and is unable to care for him any longer. His previous owner had found a home for him, but he did not get along with the cats of the home and had to be returned to her. She reached out to MAGSR in her time of need and now he is in our care looking for a new family and home. As Kieser spent a lot of time outdoors he will have to learn some house manners, but being a smart GSD he should catch on quickly. Training will go a long way with this and will, of course, help him become the best dog he can be as he creates a bond with his new family. At one time he lived with another male GSD, but he did not get along with him very well. It is best if he lives with female dogs as he does enjoy their company. Medical Alert! Pretty Willow is heartworm positive and needs expensive care, please consider donating to our Medical Fund to help defray these costs.
DESCRIPTION: Willow has traveled a long way to come to MAGSR and safety. She was on the "short list" along with her friend and traveling companion, Wyatt. She is safe now and after some TLC and rest, good food and care, she will be well on her way to finding that perfect home she has always dreamed about. She is a sweet girl and will make a wonderful family dog. She will need some training and that is a must. It willl only serve to help cement that bond between her family and herself. Training is so important - especially to a rescue dog. These dogs look to their humans to take control and make them feel safe. Willow will love her training classes - and so will her people. We promise! ;) She is smart and before you know it she will be at the head of the class. Willow was not in good shape when we first saw her. She is improving, but she is still too thin and she is heartworm positive. This condition is so easily prevented by responsible owners. It only takes one small pill once a month to prevent this terrible and life threatening disease. Right now she is at the vet's office just gaining a little more strength. She will still need to be treated for her Heartworm disease - and this does take a bit of time and requires that the dog remain on crate rest and be relatively quiet for a specified period of time. Please consider fostering this beautiful girl through her treatment and recuperation. A home is the best place to be when you are recuperating and she does promise to be a wonderful foster! Please contact us for more information and to set up an appointment to meet this beautiful girl. |

Training will go a very long way with Rogue and is a requirement for anyone looking to adopt from us. Training will help not only Rogue but also his new family learn to work together and build a lifelong bond. Rogue will require a GSD knowledgeable family, one that is calm and will take a slow easy approach with him. Once he learns to trust he will become your BFF. If you are interested in learning more about Rogue please contact us.
Update: HHHEEELLLPPP...wanted: Good, loving family, good food, lots of treats, lots of playtime, and a training program I promise to excel at. I have been an outside dog my entire short life. I know I know, I'm a BIG BOY. But i'm just as loveable, and just melt for belly rubs. Oh did I mention I would really appreciate a nice soft bed. Living outside with by brothers and sisters did not make us happy @ all, but now we're with VERY loving and gentle people who shower us with food, treats, exercise, and OH THE BELLY RUBS. Did I mention I love belly rubs? Ask to meet me, I promise you will fall in love with me.
Update: Hi Folks, Rogue checking in to give you this wonderful news !!! I've been in a foster home for three weeks now, and where do I start?? I'm so excited to finally be living an inside dog's life. I'll tell you all my foster dad tells me...I'm crate trained -I think that's my den I sleep in @ night. I've never been in one but I love it. It's so warm and comfy. I also go potty outside, never had an accident in the house !! YEAH !! My foster dad is the best in the world. He lets me on this ginormous soft thing I can cuddle with him on, he calls it a sofa. OH BOY do I love belly rubs !! He gives me the most wonderful dishes I've never tasted before and they are always on time, and I don't have to worry if i'm gonna be fed or forgot about. And YUM, the chicken treats are a delight. I take them so gently, I really do, I don't know how my brothers and sisters and I ever survived before coming to MAGSR. But they are determined to find us families' of our very own. Oh and I have 6 foster fur brothers and sisters. It's like i've never left my pak, but this pak is warm and wonderful and I'm safe and secure. My foster dad always tells me what a good boy I am, and that he would fail foster 101 AGAIN, if he could but then he would need to get his own kennel license. lol Please come and meet me. You won't be disappointed!
