FINALLY GOING HOME!
Donation receipts available upon request. Adopted 3/28/2010! Sex: Female Good With Kids: Yes
DESCRIPTION: Cindy, our sweet southern belle, is now with and looking for a place to rest her paws She is a lovely girl, happy, frisky and sweet. She loves being with people and listens well. She loves to go for walks, walks well on the leash and gets along with other dogs. Cindy is Heartworm positive - the result of her former owners not treating her with preventatives. She has already started her treatment, and it will not be long before she has finished it all and is ready to rock and roll again! Because apart from just having to chill and take it easy, you would never know that she has a problem. Cindy loves her toys, is playful and smart, and is so receptive to any positive actions that she will be a joy to train. You can meet this sweet girl at any time. Just give us a call and we can arrange it, no problem! :) You will not be disappointed - Cindy is a love! Won't you please contribute to our Medical Fund and help us to help Cindy and her friends? UPDATE: Our little" Southern Belle " is learning her social graces , she is housebroken, knows the sit command, down, wait and she can give her paw. She walks well on the leash, no pulling (on the walk) and our special command is "IGNORE" rabbits, squirrels, cats and small barking dogs. Young ladies should always keep their mouthes closed if they don't have anything nice to say. Cindy also doesn't jump up on people. She is smart, alert, protective and above all always tries to do her very best . Cindy loves children, but seems to need more practice with the noisy toys that come with them. We are also working on the vacuum and shampooer . Cindy has a "heart of gold" and would love to have a family of her own to lavish it on. Cindy has completed her heartworm treatment. Ask to meet Cindy today! adopted 3/22/2010! Sex: Male Good With Kids: Yes Medical Alert! Everett is heartworm positive and needs expensive care, please consider donating to our Medical Fund to help defray these costs. DESCRIPTION: Everett and his BFF, Elliot were part of a group of 6 German Shepherds that were confiscated from a dangerous situation -- seized because their owners were not caring for them properly. The Animal Control facility that took them was overwhelmed and they were in danger of being put to sleep. Everett is very thin, malnourished and a little shy. He is good with other dogs and kids. He is also Heartworm positive and will need some TLC from his foster mom before he can go to his forever home. This is a beautiful dog -- and it is a shame that some owners are so uncaring, but we have him now and will do our very best to make sure that Everett and Elliott have a family that will care for them and love them forever. His foster will update with some pictures and up to date news on his condition. As soon as he is ok to go to his forever home, we will let everyone know. Update: Everett came into the rescue very sick, he is high heart worm positive and had severe pneumonia, an upper respiratory infection, very malnourished, weak, smelly and covered in fleas. While he is still heart worm positive Everett has recovered from his pneumonia, put on a lot of weight, had a much needed bath and no longer itches from those nasty little biters. He has been started on medicine to kill off the baby worms to prevent further damage and will be starting his treatments to kill off the adults in early November and if all goes well he will have his second treatment in December. Everett came to the rescue weighing 63 lbs; he now weighs a whopping 87.6 lbs, and still needs to gain another 5 to 10 lbs. Adopted 3/21/2010!!! Sex: Female Good With Kids: Not at this time DESCRIPTION: Leah was given up as a stray, but the shelter believes it was her owner that turned her in. She was initially very, very frightened and shy and definitely did not feel at all comfortable around men. It is pretty apparent that she has been physically and psychologically abused. After a few days of working with her and gaining her trust, the shelter staff was able to have her come out of her shell somewhat. She would flip over on her back for one girl and ask for a tummy rub. :) They reported that Leah was housebroken and very sweet. It will take time for this very lovely, special girl. MAGSR was her only hope, and we are committed to helping her regain her trust and confidence in humans once again. She is still pretty hand shy and fearful, but in time will come around. She has so much to learn and needs a special, loving home. Patience, love, structure, consistency and training......Slowly, over time this will prevail. This girl would really benefit from a foster home. The kennel with it's noise and commotion is not very calming to a dog such as Leah. If you feel that you can give this beautiful creature what she apparently never had in the way of stability and love. If you are willing to work with her and watch her blossom and come out of her shell, please contact us and arrange to meet her. Adopted 3/20/2010!!! Sex: Female DESCRIPTION:Ali is our special girl! :) ( Ali, pronounced Alley) - She was given up because she would jump the fence and go and hang out with the farm animals. :) She loved the goats and was usually found with them. She is small and sweet and a little shy, but does warm up pretty quickly. She has been living in a foster home - complete with other dogs - and children now and then. She is housebroken and ready to move on. We will require that she move into a home with a secure fenced yard - preferably over four feet, as she can scale this with no problem. Ali will require training - and this is required. She is a sweet, soft dog and will respond very readily to her owner/handlers. Training is necessary though, to establish that bond that is so necessary between the dog and her owner. Please ask to meet Ms. Ali. She is all ready to move into her new home. If you can give her the home that she would thrive in forever, please contact us. Adopted 3/20/2010!! DESCRIPTION: Pretty Ms. Rosie O'MAGSR is a lovely young lass -- and a spitfire! She is a very friendly little lady that is definitely going to need a loving, patient, knowing and firm hand. She is friendly, smart, willful and very cute! Interesting combination! :) Rose is a typical puppy that has had little or no training and will try her best to get the upper hand. She is mouthy and vocal, but she does settle easily and takes correction very well. She just needs to be directed in the proper way. Rosie will need a home that will give her this direction through a committed training program. Training will instill the bond between her people and herself, and also give this girl the confidence she needs to feel safe in the hands of her people enough so that she will not have to try to take over. Rosie is residing in her foster home and learning how to be a lady! :) If you think that this wonderful pup is right for you - and more important - you are right for her, please contact us to arrange to meet her. Adopted 3/20/2010!! Sex: Male DESCRIPTION: Killian is your typical un-schooled, friendly, well meaning, goofy, exuberant and totally un-mannered puppy! :) Oh man, does he have a lot to learn! But, he is very eager to please, loves people and just can't wait to get started every day.....started doing anything, that is! Killian will need a loving and patient home. He will surprise you with his "smarts" and his eagerness - just needs that direction, structure and consistency that is so important to any young dog. Killian is at the vet's office right now - having a few things checked out. He will be ready in no time at all to meet his future forever family. He would really benefit from a foster home while he is waiting. Ask to meet Killian. UPDATE: Killian LOVES to play ball. He will chase a ball around endlessly. While he could use some leash manners, he was very careful not to pull me down the icy hill we had to descend on Sunday. He kept looking back at me, with a very concerned look on his face, checking to make sure I wasn't going to fall and waiting for me to get my footing before going on ahead. Killian has lots of energy and smarts. During the short time I spent with him he learned to sit for a treat, and he took those treats very gently. UPDATE: Hi Killian here. Just wanted to let you all know I've been working on my manners here at the kennel and I must say I am getting very good at this whole leash thing. I am still a pup though, but am very smart and eager to learn. Everything fascinates me! I get so excited sometimes I still jump up, but my friends here say I'm learning fast. I love all the people and most of the pups here, but am so looking forward to my own family and warm bed. Please ask to meet me - I'll shower you with wet sloppy kisses. Adopted 3/17/10! Sex: Female DESCRIPTION: Little Annie is an Orphan! ;) Her former owners left their home and left Annie tied to a tree in the yard. Makes you wonder about some people, doesn't it? Annie is a lovely young lady and will be a great addition to some lucky family! This time forever! She is a typical young untrained Shepherd; -- no leash manners - or manners to speak of, really.:) She will need to learn the proper behavior for walking on a leash and living in a home. Very small children might not be a good idea right now because she could inadvertently knock them over - and they just might make her uneasy. It is not clear whether or not she spent a great deal of her time inside the home, but she is a GSD after all, not dumb, just needs a little tweaking here and there. She is a very pretty and a fun dog - right now a little confused about what is happening in her life, but very ready to move on. A little shy and a bit timid when approached, but responds quickly and well to a kind voice and a gentle hand. Annie will need a commitment to training, which is required for adoption and which will assist tremendously to acclimate and help her bond to her new family. Our little orphan is at the vet's office right now being spayed and updated on her vaccines. She will be ready to meet and greet very soon. If you are interested in meeting Annie and believe that you can give her the permanent home she truly deserves, please contact us to arrange a meeting. Sex: Female DESCRIPTION: Zena is a very regal and beautiful girl! She is stunning - and every inch a German Shepherd Female. Zena is an ex-breeder and very happy to leave that life behind her! :) She is super sweet and very gentle, although a little shy at first. She gets along with other dogs, seems to be crate trained and is possibly house trained as well. Zena is a little under weight for her size -- and Yes, a girl can be too thin! She needs some good, nutritious food and she will be just gorgeous again, dahling! Hers was not an easy life, she has also been successfully treated for Heartworm and is now pronounced fit and ready for her next adventure. This lovely lady will need a little time and patience to acclimate herself to her new surroundings. She will need training, structure, consistency and the love of her people. She will become an awesome family dog that will make a truly loving and loyal companion for her people as long as she lives. She deserves the good life now. If you believe that you have what it takes, please ask to see Zena soon. Adopted 3/14/2010!! Sex: Male Good With Kids: Likely Older
DESCRIPTION: Clyde, like his brother Cyrus, and his sister Nellie, was taken from his owners along with other brothers and sisters because they were not being cared for properly. Clyde is understandably very confused and uncertain as to just what is happening in his life. He is a friendly chap, but a bit timid and shy.....but after a short while - and maybe a treat or two he will s l o w l y come around. This is one dog of many that lived in unspeakable conditions and he needs a little extra TLC. He is a blank slate - and needs to learn it all! Clyde will also make a great family dog - and is very anxious to show us. He will need love and patience above all. He will need training and will need to be made to feel secure and safe. He has oh so much to learn! :) When introduced to a cat, he was curious, but then looked terrified! :) Won't you help this very nice boy with a second chance. He deserves it. Come and meet Clyde and sit down and let him tell you his story. He and his brother are being checked over now, but will be ready soon to meet and greet. Update: Hi it’s me Clyde. I just wanted to give you an update on my progress. I have some good news about me and my brother Cyrus. We have been misdiagnosed. The doctor’s originally said we both had Pannus an incurable eye condition but the nice people of Magsr took us to an ophthalmologist for doggies and she said this was not the case. The doctor said that we have Pannus like lesions but does not feel that it is Pannus. She said that our corneas did not form correctly and that there is a bit of scar tissue and pigment that will hopefully fade with some special eye drops that we are getting in our eyes. Wonderful news for us and for you providing you are interested in us. Let me tell you what we are working on. We have learned to walk on a leash, learning heel, sit and down and we for the first time are experiencing toys. Wow they are fun! They make funny noises, bounce and make other noises. We are very happy and fun to be around. We have heard some volunteers talking and they said we are very sweet and we will make a wonderful family pet. Please ask to see me or my brother, Cyrus. Adopted 3/13/2010!!! Sex: Female DESCRIPTION: Remi is regretfully being returned. She needs more time than her owners can devote to her at this time....she really deserves that. She is a beautiful and sweet girl - a trifle shy at first, but warms up to a kind voice and gentle touch. She is a typical young German Shepherd that would do best in a home with no young children and also would prefer to have someone home with her a good deal of the time as she does have a mild case of Separation Anxiety. Remi grows bored easily and is high energy. She would need at least two daily walks and maybe a good game of fetch, too. :) Her family must make a commitment to continue with her training, and she will excel. Training is a requirement for adoption, and in Remi's case, the structure and discipline will help to give her a greater confidence in herself and develop the bond between herself and her new family, it will help her socially as well. Remi is in her foster home and ready and willing to meet you. If you can give this dog the wonderful home that she deserves, please contact us to arrange a meeting.. Sex: Female Good With Kids: Unknown DESCRIPTION: Kaci is a very pretty and friendly girl. She has been on her own for awhile now and is looking for a permanent home. Kaci is young and pretty energetic, untrained, but willing to learn. She is definitely not laid back! Kaci would love to have an active family - a family that would take her on long walks, hikes and play with her. She is still a typical puppy, active, bouncy and mouthy -- has very few manners! No one has bothered to take the time to teach her. She will need to work on her leash and walking skills and also learn that it is not a good idea to jump up on people! This lovely young lady will definitely need a breed knowledgeable handler and she will most definitely need a committed training program. Kaci is so worth the time and effort any lucky family will put into her. She really could use a foster home. Kaci is waiting now - If you feel that you have what it takes to give Kaci a loving home, please contact us and arrange to meet her. Sex: Male DESCRIPTION: Hennessy is your typical young, friendly, big, exuberant, and completely untrained GSD. It is very obvious that no one took the time to train this young boy. No manners! None! Nada! Zilch! He is a little on the wild side, but he just wants to be your best friend - in your lap, slobbering kisses all over you, on a leash trying to pull you down the road, and in general acting like a big goofball! :) Hennessy is a beautiful young dog and so deserves another chance at a good home. He was turned into the shelter because his former owner traveled and did not have time for him.....and it shows. :) He is very trainable, extremely eager to please, and just needs some patience, a lot of love, structure and consistency and above all, that training -- most important. He definitely has to learn how to be a first class canine good citizen. Training makes for a good dog and a very happy family! A foster home, to help him over some of the rough spots before he goes into a forever home, would be a wonderful transition for him. If you think that you can offer this beautiful dog what he has been lacking so far in his life, and can guide him towards being a fantastic family companion, please contact us. Right now with his exuberance, Hennessy would most likely inadvertently knock over small children - toddlers, so a home with older kids would probably be best. Hennessy at the vet's office right now being checked out and all, but he will be ready to meet the public very soon. Hennessy - the big guy with the goofy grin! :) Adopted 3/13/2010!!! Sex: Male Good With Kids: Likely DESCRIPTION: Boone was rescued at literally the last minute and he would like every one to know how very grateful he is. Boone is a very, very nice boy according to all that have met him. He is extremely thin and up to this point apparently has not been blessed with the good life at all. He will be a good looking boy once he has some good nutritious food and gets some meat on his bones. :) Boone has "airplane ears". :)They kinda stick out to the side as opposed to standing up straight. Not sure if that is because of a poor diet or if that is the way they will be forever, but they are uniquely his and we think he looks very handsome. :) This sweet and charming boy will need a bit of training to get him up to par, some obedience, leash and house manners and he is good to go! A foster home while he is waiting for the wonderful future forever home would be terrific. Boone is waiting. UPDATE: Hi folks, Boone here, just wanted to give you an update. I've been in my foster home for about two weeks now, and am settling in just fine. My foster mom says i am the best house guest she's had in a very long time. And guess what else?? I have a foster sister. She's wonderful, she gives me her toys (the old ones), that's all right with me, I love toys. I keep them close to me. We go outside together, we do EVERYTHING together. She's even letting me on mom's bed with her, but not for long. I am house broken, crate trained, though I would rather not use the crate. But I do when my foster mom goes to work. I'm just a layed back kinda guy. I love everyone, and am a little too interested in the feline kind and/or small fury creatures. So I would ask that my new furever family not have any. I do like other dogs, and a bit older children, as the very small ones make me nervous. They're so small and fall all over the place, and smell, and make lots of noises. I am your all round family guy who likes to go for walks, or jogs, or just stay at home and catch a good movie. Are you the family for me? Let's meet, you won't be disappointed, I promise. UPDATE: Boone was our special guest at Germantown Pet Smart today. He is a wonderful dog and very youthful for his 5 years. He's inquisitive, friendly, and will do anything to have his giant ears scratched. He sure does love his squeaky pink ball! He helped Punkin with her "donation dog" responsibilities. He looked just dashing in our donation vest! Boone took treats gently and happily greeted anyone who had some love to offer him. He's a blank slate in terms of training and has lots to learn, but in just a few hours he was sitting for treats! He was so sweet to all of the people he met, adults and kids, and handled most of the other dogs well. He might not be such a fan of really little dogs, but he was happy to give a friendly hello-sniff to anything cocker-spaniel sized and up! He rode nicely in my car on his way home and seemed to truly enjoy the wind in his ears. UPDATE: Boone is definitely housetrained. He is good with my Female Chocolate Lab. My neighbor and her teenage son were over and he was great. He loves all toys and collects them to put on his pillow. He knows some basic commands but learns quick. He is quite the gentleman. Adopted 3/12/2010!!!! Sex: Female
DESCRIPTION: Meet Gina! She and her two sisters, Glorianna and Gigi have just arrived from far, far away. :) They are all looking for a wonderful home. A home that will last a lifetime. Gina is larger and more outgoing than Gigi and she does try to boss her little sister around. She is a cute and cuddly little love who just wants to sit in her foster Papa's lap and soak up the love! :) She and her sister, Gigi are together in their new foster home - getting used to family life and learning new things everyday. Gina is also a typical puppy with all the puppy behaviors - good and some not so wonderful. :) She is also a smart little cookie and like the rest will need some structure and consistency and training to become "Gina the Wonder Dog" -- or something like that! :) As we have said before, adopting a puppy is a pretty big deal here at MAGSR - we want the very best for our little ones. They will need a good home, true, but in addition to the usual - food, toys, treats, training and good kibble, there is also a commitment to this puppy that will run - oh about 12 - 15 years. We want this sweet little puppy to belong to her people forever; and we want her adopters to realize the importance of this commitment to the pup. There will be messes, expense, good days and bad days. Will it be worth it? Oh yes, absolutely! This little girl will love you unconditionally and will joyfully (most of the time) just do what you want her to do because she wants to please. A training program - now is a good time to start - is required as part of our adoption contract. We guarantee that you will have fun and learn almost as much as Gina. Please do not apply to adopt if you are not ready to take the big step and make this commitment. If you believe that you have what it takes to make this puppy happily fit into your family for life, please contact us to arrange to meet little Gina. UPDATE: Gina has had a great week. She now patrols the backyard barking at things she does not like. She now is chasing the other dogs around the house. Her favorite is Gemma (85 pounds) who just sits there and lets Gina beat her up. We had a bunch of folks visit over the weekend Gina was cautious but started to interact with them quite quickly which is a first for her. Its now time to take her out in public to broaden her experience level and also start some obedience training. Gina still loves to cuddle and curl up with her foster parents when she gets tired of chasing her ball. She is an absolute joy. UPDATE: Gina is really starting to adjust to her new life away from the shelter in Puerto Rico She is a very happy and friendly little girl – still a bit shy but once she has an opportunity to make sure everything is OK she enjoys exploring new things and new people. She is wonderful with other dogs and even enjoys playing with our cat. Gina, like most puppies, is an eating machine and now weighs at least 21 pounds. We’ve made wonderful progress with her house training. She sleeps all night in her crate without any accidents and very rarely has an accident in the house. When she runs in circles we know its time to take her outside. Gina plays with toys but much prefers running around in the back yard with a stick in her mouth. She is still not crazy about a leash but we continue to work on it. She will be a very easy dog to train given the fact that she is very smart and food motivated. She is the kind of dog that can fit into almost any kind of home. She’d love to have a playmate but she’ll do great as an only dog as well. Adopted 3/10/2010 Sex: Female DESCRIPTION: Stacia was a beautiful mother dog that had given birth to 10 puppies. When MAGSR learned of her - she had been deposited in the shelter with her newborn puppies and five of her 10 puppies remained, the other five having been euthanized by the shelter because of lack of space.. MAGSR immediately attempted rescue of Stacia and her five remaining puppies - we named them after stars and constellations: Aries, Carina, Gemini, Sirius and the only boy was Leo. One of our volunteers drove over 6 hours to bring this little family to safety, deposited in a clean and warm foster home and we all hoped for the best. The puppies were very tiny...only 4-5 weeks old. The next day it became very apparent that all of them, mother and babies were very ill. They were rushed to a 24 hour care emergency veterinary hospital and were diagnosed with PARVO - a deadly disease. One puppy died before she even got to the hospital. Sadly we lost the mom and 2 other puppies soon after. Little Leo was the last to go. The surviving pups, Aries and Gemini are now doing very well. They are fat and sassy little girls and delight in amusing their foster mom with their typical puppy antics. They will not be ready for a permanent home for a few weeks. We are so thankful that they did survive. However, our cost for caring for these babies and their mother is now in the thousands of dollars and we need some help in paying the bills. Adopted 3/8/2010!!! Sex: Male Good With Kids: Older DESCRIPTION: Thor is a big, friendly guy who has had some back luck recently it seems. He was picked up and taken to the shelter while visiting some doggy lady friends - maybe the neighbors did not like the sounds of doggy partying going on - :), so off to the shelter he went -- and had to stay there a while. It seems no one came to claim him and so there he sat....just waiting. Not such a good deal for such a nice guy now, is it? Thor is a great guy! Loves everyone - does not love little dogs or kitties, though, and would prefer a home without these creatures. Because of his size, smaller children might be knocked over and kids 10 and older should be fine. Thor was found to be Heartworm positive while he was being readied for rescue, and this is no big deal - really - these days, just a minor bump in the road, so to speak! :) He has his treatment plan, his meds, his bowl, water dish, etc., and will move from the vets to his foster home in a short while. He has to remain quiet for a short period of time and his foster is going to make sure that this boy does follow all the rules. In no time flat, he will be A-OK, good as new and ready for a forever home. Thor has not had much in the way of doggy education, it seems and needs to learn his leash manners and all that is necessary to be a canine good citizen. He will require a loving home with a commitment to training - to solidify that bond between the dog and his people. If you think that Thor is the pup for you, please contact us. UPDATE: Thor has been with us for three weeks, and is doing very well. While his activity is very restricted
because of his heartworm infection and treatment, he is coming through like a trooper and we can definitely see the "light at the end of the tunnel!"
He had his Immiticide injections that kill the adult heartworms two weeks ago, and he has made it through the critical early period of his recovery
without any problems or complications. Luckily, Thor's infection was a mild one. But still, his activity must be strictly limited for several weeks,
so that his body can safely clear itself of the heartworm remnants. Thor is a wonderfully friendly, bright, and energetic dog, so being restricted to
"bed rest" (crate or leash at all times, with limited short walks) has been kind of tough for him as it would be for any young, healthy GSD. He has
understandably been a bit restless and frustrated at times, but has remained good-natured and generally happy throughout. Thor is always quiet through
the night does and well in the crate when someone is nearby, but is still a little unsure about being alone and so will sometimes whine or yelp a bit
when left alone in the crate, until he gets settled in. Frozen Kongs, bones, and other chewables have helped to distract him and pass the time. Once through the balance of his recovery in just a couple short weeks, Thor will relish the play, exercise, and activity he's been
waiting for so patiently (well, most of the time!). A good dose of overdue exercise will no doubt help Thor "take the edge off," and become more relaxed
and focused. Even during his restricted activity, Thor's leash manners have improved and he continues to make progress with consistency on some basic
commands on lead. But Thor can be a bit headstrong and easily distracted, and will require a firm, patient handler and formal training in order to
fully round out his manners and socialization, and better focus his bouystrous energy and desire to please. Thor is an outgoing, friendly, and "upbeat"
dog who has been a real pleasure to us. We just love this guy, as does everyone who meets him. He has been remarkably resilient in the face of his
recent challenges, and with love, commitment, and a bit of work, will make a grand addition to some lucky household. UPDATE: Thor went to the vet for his one-month post treatment evaluation, and the vet says his heart and lungs sound "perfect!" So Thor can gradually build up to regular exercise levels over the next couple of weeks, beginning with 5-10 minute intervals of heavy exercise (running, retrieving, etc.). A heartworm re-test was not yet done because there is such a high likelihood of residual heartworm proteins in his system that the any testing this soon after treatment would not be unreliable. Thor will need to be re-tested in a few months to get a reliable result. Thor did get an Ivomectin interceptor injection to ensure that any remaining new larvae are eliminated, will go on regular monthly oral interceptor hereafter, and in all likelihood Thor is done with heartworm forever (although there is a very small risk he remains positive). Of course, as soon as we got home from the vet, we went out into the backyard and (finally!) took the leash off. Thor really, really enjoyed his first romp in over a month – you could see the joy in him, although it was over way to soon to suite him. But there is plenty more where that came from, and now that the Doctor has given the okay, Thor will be in shape and in full swing in no time! UPDATE: Thor has been busy adjusting to life “post heart worm.” Thor is now happily getting plenty of the exercise that an active GSD like him needs. He really enjoys trotting along on bike rides, which he does very well. The slightly faster trotting speed helps keep Thor focused and interested (see picture), and he is more than happy to go along with the bike for several miles at a time. We live nearby to a fairly urban environment, and Thor does very well with the noise, crowds, and activity on city sidewalks. But while Thor is great with people (if sometimes perhaps a little too enthusiastic), he has proven to be less than civil with other dogs that are in close proximity to him. So we have started on training classes to help ramp Thor up on his basic training, and to help him adjust and get more comfortable around other dogs. Thor and his foster are making progress with the training, but Thor will need continued work and formal training with a loving and dedicated family to help fully bring out the wonderful potential this vibrant and happy guy has to be a truly excellent dog. Adopted 3/8/2010!!! Sex: Female Good With Kids: Likely DESCRIPTION: Toni is new to us; a bit sad and very unsure at the moment. She came to us via a foster for a rural shelter. Toni was found with another dog chained to a heavy log with no food and water. She was brought back to health and cared for until she could find her way to a rescue that would help her find a loving and permanent home. She is a very, very sweet girl, eager to please and desperately looking for affection. She is reported to be good with other dogs and takes direction well. As we find out more about this girl, we will post updates and new pictures. She really, really could use a foster home right now. This is a nice quiet dog - young enough for an active family and past the nutty puppy stage of life. She would make a wonderful companion - ready to do just about anything you ask of her. If you would like to meet Toni, please contact us to arrange a meeting. Update: Toni just came into foster Valentine's Day weekend and is settling in nicely. She is getting along with her Update: Toni attended her first Meet & Greet Saturday at Petsmart. She was such a good girl with everyone that stopped
to visit with her. She especially enjoyed the treats, taking them like a real lady should. Toni is comfortable with all ages of
people, and just as comfortable with the four-legged visitors, too. Toni continues to do well with her basic obedience and now walks
ever so nicely. We're still working on "off" since she does like to come up for a hug, but she is improving. She just can't help herself!
Toni has been in foster for three weeks and has proven that she is smart and really wants to learn and be the best dog ever. Adopted 3/7/2010!!! DESCRIPTION: Maya (fka Myra) was returned recently because her family's circumstances changed and they could keep her no longer. She has lived with adults and children and is completely housebroken. Maya is a smaller girl and has always been a bit shy - she just needs some time to warm up and she is fine. She is sweet and gentle - she just needs a little understanding as right now she is understandably upset about the changes in her lifestyle -- she is a little scared and unsure. Maya is a wonderful family dog and she is looking once again for a family that will stand by her forever. Training is a must - even tho she has some basic knowledge - training with her new family will help cement that bond of trust that is essential with rescued dogs. Maya is waiting very patiently for a foster to make the transition easier for her. Come and meet this pretty and petite lady. UPDATE: Hi folks, Maya here. Just wanted to touch base with you and let you know I'm patiently waiting for my furever family. I am a very loving young lady, and am completely committed to my humans. Can I show you? Come and meet me. I have completed my basic obedience classes and follow instructions very well. I love to go on walks, jogs, or just hang out by the fire. I'm not a dog park kinda gal, and don't like the felines. I like to give my full attention and my love to my humans. I can show you when you make an appointment to meet me. I am a petite girl, you might say I'm a mini shepherd. But just as committed and loyal as a purebred, and more so loving. See you soon. Sex: Male Good With Kids: Likely Older DESCRIPTION: Charley is just a good ole boy that is on the look out for a nice home - maybe in time for the holidays! His owners up and left him - moved off without even a "see ya later" or a "goodbye". So here is Charley, being stuck in a shelter after being abandoned and patiently waiting for MAGSR to come and offer him rescue, he is finally here! Now it is obvious that in his previous life Charley has not had much in the way of an education.:) Basically a really nice boy, Charley needs to learn how to be a good and well behaved and well trained dog! :) He is super friendly and loving, but needs to learn proper leash manners and doggy etiquette. Charley is big and a very good looking, strong and energetic young dog. He has a happy disposition, is eager to learn and will make a fine and loyal companion -- with a little work on the part of his people. :) Because of his size and energy level, older children might be a better choice as he may inadvertently knock over a younger child or a toddler. He does need training - and this is required, absolutely - not only to ensure that his people will have a well behaved dog, but training helps to establish that all important bond between the dog and his people. It is so very important and is a requirement for our adoption process. Will Charley be worth all the time and effort you put into him? Absolutely without question! This is a great dog! He would love a foster home - and a stocking for the holidays! If you would like to meet this good looking boy, please contact us. Update: Charley is now living the good life in a foster home. He is a perfect gentleman and is a happy boy! He is housebroken and crate trained and has such good crate manners he does not even disturb or ruffle his blankie. :) He is a fairly well behaved young man. learning the ropes and is fine with big and medium dogs. Not too sure about the little, bittie dogs as he has not had any exposure to them. Charley is a great dog! Adopted 3/07/2010!!! DESCRIPTION: Ace is a fairly big boy - a little unsure right now -- lots of changes for him. He was turned in to the shelter because his family was moving - and so here he is. Six years with one family and now he is looking again. He is drop dead gorgeous and a little reserved, but not at all unfriendly...just taking it slow. He responds well to voice commands and it is apparent that he has had a bit of training somewhere along the way. There is a bit of flinching when you touch him suddenly, but he is just adjusting to new surroundings and new people. Ace will definitely need a breed knowledgeable owner/handler. He will require a training commitment - most definitely - and this is a part of our adoption requirement. Ace is all ready for a foster home to get him all ready to meet his forever family. He will make a trusted and loyal companion. Ace is smart and quick to pick up things - walks fairly well on the leash and is beyond the puppy stage. Ask to meet him today -- he will not last long at all. Ace is a keeper! Update: Ace has been returned because of mild separation anxiety. He becomes anxious and distraught when left alone - separation anxiety. Some new things we have discovered about Ace. He bonds very quickly and very tightly to his people or his person and is very anxious when left alone. This is a dog that lived his entire life with one family and was given up. It stands to reason that he is a bit concerned now about losing his person or his people again. He is the stereotypical beautiful, loyal, loving and trusted companion - just a bit anxious at his age of being abandoned again. Separation Anxiety is not uncommon and can be dealt with. Some dogs are ok for just a short while and some cannot be left alone for more than 10 minutes. Some dogs just fuss and carry on, others can be destructive to both themselves and/or to the environment. However, it is a condition that can be resolved. It takes time, patience and above all a deep commitment to the dog. We feel that Ace is such a dog that would deserve a home with people who could work through his fears and conquer them with him. Ace is sweet, loving and really in need of a loving home right now. Trust me, he is worth the all effort you will put into the rehabilitation of this beautiful animal. Perhaps a home with a family member that is home most of the day would work best for him. Please give this handsome boy another chance. Ace would love to meet you. Adopted 3/6/2010!!! Sex: Male DESCRIPTION: Tex is a country boy, fresh from the farm! He is friendly to all and loves just about everything! He is a typical puppy, bouncy, mouthy, no manners to speak of and just lovin' life! Tex will need to go to training - he really does need to polish his leash manners and such, and training is a requirement as part of our adoption procedure. Training is so very important as it gives a dog structure and discipline and confidence and it further cements that bond between the dog and his owners. Tex does need to learn some social skills and such, but he sure is willing! Because of his energy level and lack of manners, older children might be a best bet right now. Tex did live with a family, but we are not sure if he was an inside or outside or what side kind of dog. He was turned into the shelter because he was not nice to the farm's chickens, so we are thinking that cats and small furry animals as well as chickens would not be a good idea as far as roomies are concerned. But hey! He loves people! And he is smart and just so anxious to please and to find that fantastic forever home. A foster home right now would be just wonderful! Ask to see our friendly country boy, Tex! Come and sit a spell and let him talk to you about life on a farm -- and those chickens! :) UPDATE: Hi Yall, Tex here. Just hangin out at the kennel with my k-9 friends, and I must say I have alot of them. I get along with every one of them, felines not so much. I want to chase them, they look like so much fun...too chase that is. I am a young fella, love long walks, running, playing, hangin out, going to dog park. I'm all about havin fun. I have good leash manners for being so young, and would go to the ends of the earth for treats, haven't had much of food and lovin in my past. Now i'm looking for all of it, the whole shabang !! I have lots of WET SLOPPY KISSES FOR YA. Come up and meet me. See ya soon. UPDATE: Tex came to visit for a weekend getaway and this morning, instead of taking a trip back to the kennel, he's officially found himself a foster. He has such a winning personality that even my Grinch-y husband fell for him. Thanks to Tex, I actually managed to get a picture of my husband in the midst of the ever-elusive SMILE. But, that's Tex for ya - one look and you can't help but smile! UPDATE: It's been a week and Tex has settled nicely into his foster home. He's no longer afraid of wood floors and is learning to climb the stairs, although he's still does so a bit clumsily. Tex is very well behaved in the house and we've only had to correct him a couple of times for grabbing things that weren't his. As soon as he's corrected he drops whatever he's picked up and goes back to playing with toys. He even goes in his crate easily now, all it takes is asking nicely with a treat in hand. Tex really enjoys the company of other dogs and will run around our yard playing with his foster sister. He gets along well with most dogs, but might annoy older dogs or dogs who don't want to deal with a playful youngster. He's a bit of an attention hog, so we get the feeling he'd be just fine in a house without fur-siblings too. Adopted 3/6/2010!!! Sex: Male DESCRIPTION: Jasper is a stunner! Look at those gorgeous eyes! He is just a pup and has to learn - EVERYTHING! :) And he will - eventually - and happily, too. He is sweet, and just loves everybody.....so very friendly. Because he is your basic untrained, unschooled and normal exuberant pup, he may inadvertently knock over a very small child so children older than toddler age would probably be a better fit. This boy will need training - big time - and he will love it! As with all young dogs, what you put into the dog as far as training, structure and love is what you will get in return. Training in a socialized setting will do wonders for this big, goofy, friendly guy. Jasper would fit into just about any family - One or two person - kids, no kids, any kind is fine -- just as long as he is made to be part of your life. .A fairly active family who would take him with them and include him in all their activities would be wonderful. Jasper is waiting to meet you! Adopted 3/4/2010!!! DESCRIPTION: Beautiful Andie is homeless - yes, she is! And she is now actively seeking a permanent place to hang up her collar and leash - plunk down her food and water dishes and settle down! She is a friendly, though initially cautious and just a tad bit shy girl. She needs a minute to warm up to people and then she will be one of your best buds! Andie is energetic and no dummy - no, she is very smart. She exhibits the behaviors of a young dog that was never trained or had anyone take the time to try. She is still very much a puppy! She has much to learn and she will excel at training. She basically ignored the cats at the shelter (loose cats) and greeted some dogs at the vets office with tail wags and friendly sniffs, she said hello to some children with a very friendly play with me and love me attitude. A lot of love, a lot of good food, nice bed, some squeaky toys, training, long walks with her people, lots of play time - and she is golden! She will be a great family dog - and she is absolutely gorgeous to boot! : Andie is at the vet's right now being spayed and vetted. She will be ready to meet the public very soon. If you feel that you can give Andie the home that she deserves, please contact us to arrange a meeting. Adopted 2/28/2010!!! Sex: Male Good With Kids: Likely Older
DESCRIPTION: Cyrus was taken from his owners along with his brother, Clyde, and sister, Nellie, because they were not being cared for properly. Cyrus is understandably very confused and uncertain as to just what is happening in his life. He is a friendly chap, but a bit timid and shy.....but after a short while - and maybe a treat or two he will s l o w l y come around. This is one dog of many that lived in unspeakable conditions and he needs a little extra TLC. He is a blank slate - and needs to learn it all! Cyrus will make a great family dog - and is very anxious to show us. He will need love and patience above all. He will need training and will need to be made to feel secure and safe. Cyrus is a "soft" dog - and he will take to training very well. He has oh so much to learn! :) Won't you help this very nice boy with a second chance. He deserves it. Cyrus is waiting to meet you. Update:Hi it’s me Cyrus. I just wanted to give you an update on my progress. I have some good news about me and my brother Clyde. Please ask to see me or my brother, Clyde. DESCRIPTION: Nero is a beautiful, high spirited, high energy boy that will take your breath away and steal your heart. He is very vocal, and talks up a storm as some shepherds will do. He wants to make sure you do pay attention to him! :) Nero is a big, big guy who will absolutely need an experienced handler and a family that is familiar with the breed. He is very well behaved with an experienced handler at the helm, and is willing and eager to learn. Caution should be exercised with small children because of his size and energy level as he could easily, inadvertently knock them over, and also when introducing other male dogs; just until he learns his house manners and how to be a responsible canine good citizen. He was wonderful to his short term foster before his trip to MAGSR, and it is apparent that this boy is so ready to settle down. Nero is exuberant and untrained, true; but he has so much potential. Is he the family member you have been searching for? If you are experienced with the breed, committed to a training program and ready to give this great dog the structure and leadership that he will need, please contact us and arrange for a meeting. UPDATE: Nero is a gentle giant. Despite his size (HUGE), he does not pull on a leash and has very good manners. He knows sit, paw, and down and will happily do any combination of the 3 for a treat. I wanted to treat him to a car ride, but he was too big to sit in my little hatchback. He politely did his best, but it was clear we weren't getting all of him in there. He is eager for attention and affection, and a perfect gentleman on top of it all. Adopted 2/27/2010!!! She has been on her own for way too long. This is a nice girl - young and very eager to please. She rode from the shelter with another dog and they were fine together. Although a little timid at first, Kenzie is fine after a few moments of getting to know you and a soft voice and a gentle hand. She is new to us and as time goes by and we learn a bit more about her we will post updates and new pictures. Kenzie would really love a foster home - just to help her over the hurdles. :) She has the potential to become a fantastic family pet and companion. Please ask to meet our pretty Ms. Kenzie. adopted 2/21/2010!!! Sex: Male Good With Kids: Yes DESCRIPTION: I was the first pup born so I am the best pup. I am white like Mom with wonderful brown spots and brown soulful eyes. I am a handsome dude! Update: This is Blizzard. I am a man of action so it's hard to get a good picture of me. I love to play and hang with my brother Clipper but he is getting kind of bossy. I like to hang with my bone and chew - teething is hard work you know. I get along with everyone and everything and am an exceptional good natured. I also love a good snuggle on the sofa at the end of the day. I'll be your best friend forever. UPDATE: Hi there! It's me -- I am now known as "The Blizz"! :) I am growing up now and I need a name that is befitting a more mature pup. I have been working very, very hard on my house manners. Aunt Patty has me upstairs now cause I am the last pup standing, - or the only one left - and I am now in the kitchen when she is there, and pretty much have the run of the place - with Aunt Patty watching, of course. And I get to sleep in the big bedroom with Aunt Patty and Mariah - I have my own crate with a blankie and toys and everything! :) I am almost potty trained - and Aunt Patty just loves getting up early in the morning and taking me outside in her bathrobe - especially in the snow! :) Life is so very cool. Mariah, the dog and I play and hang out together...she is a really big girl - and I respect that! :0 She goes first out the door, she drinks first out the bowl and when she barks, I salute! I am a smart little guy, and I have learned that you really should respect your elders, your Aunt Patty, and bigger dogs. :) i am becoming quite the world traveler and have visited a few PetSmart places looking for people who would love to have me as their forever pup. They would have to be very nice people who would train me to be even more wonderful than I am, treat me well and love me forever. My Aunt Patty is sure to tell them what they would need to know. She loves me and I love her, but it is time to find my own way in the world - or at least to my own home now......but she said I could visit anytime.:) Please let the nice people at MAGSR know that you would like to meet me. I promise that I will really impress yu with my good looks and awesome smile! :) Waitin' for you! Love, Blizz UPDATE: Hi again! It's me, Blizz. I would like to show off my new coat! Aunt Patty puts it on me when she takes me outside. It has been very cold lately and the coat keeps me nice and warm> See? It even has my name on it! And it does make me feel so special! Everyone says I am a very handsome young man! I have been to lots and lots of places where they have cool doggy stuff --- Toys! Biscuits! Food! Treats! And people! People who like to pet me! I do impress everyone I meet with my nice friendly manners and my good looks! :) Aunt Patty says that my daddy's name was probably Jack! She says I look more like him than my mom. I will not be much bigger when I am grown and I weigh about 26 pounds now. I am a typical puppy, I love to play, run and to chew. I try very hard to only go potty outside, but that is so hard to learn and sometimes I just can't get Aunt Patty to look at me...and we just don't seem to speak the same language, so I have had a few accidents. You know, that is the only time I have heard her howl like me. :) BUT I am learning! :) I am a good boy, though; and I love to be close to Aunt Patty....she says I am a loveable little devil. I help her when she is in her office. I love to gather "things" and make a nest of them......pieces of paper, yarn, toys, towels. I do keep busy while she is working on the computer. Then I take a nap. Let's see, what can I tell you now? I am learning about a leash. I love to be petted and cuddle. I will stick close to my people. I am crate trained and a good boy in my crate at night -- sleep all night long. I love to play with Mariah - she is a big dog and love to play chase and tag. If you are looking for a very handsome boy - not gonna be too big, energetic and playful, very loving and just so eager to please -- If you can promise me a good home and will take me to training so I can learn all this stuff that the big guys know, I would love to meet you. Nellie is a very blank slate as you can tell - and she is a little shy, but friendly. She will need a patient and loving home - maybe with a resident dog that is friendly - and Ms. Nellie will go far. My name is Romer - no I don't know what it means either - don't ask! I would like to tell you a little bit about myself. I come from a shelter - well, I WAS in a home with a really nice guy, but he was kinda elderly and I am kinda not - and also I am kinda a bouncy and lively pup that needs exercise, some training (LOTS of training), and he just could not do it....I mean it was for my own good, see he knew I was so handsome and nice that someone would want to take me home. :) Well, here I am. I am just waiting - not too patiently, but I know that my future forever family is almost here. I can feel it! If you could just give me a foster home until they get to meet me...that would be so nice...because I know that once they meet me, man, it will be all over...I am quite a charmer, yes, I am! And I am waiting. Romer...the really, really cute little guy with a big smile! :) UPDATE: Hi Folks, Romer here, just wanted to let you know I'm still waiting patiently for my furever family to come and get me. I'm a pup at heart, love to play, run and jump, but I also love to just cuddle and watch a good movie on a nice warm soft bed. I love humans, other pups, and the felines too. I'm just your all around fun, lovable pup. I have very good leash manners, but do require basic training to concrete the bond between me and you. Come on up and meet me, you won't be disappointed. DESCRIPTION: Zoe is a precious, adorable, cuddly
and squirmy little girl! Her face is wonderful; she has
the biggest eyes! Zoe is warm and safe now in her foster
home. She is settling her paws and getting the lay of
the land, so to speak.-- Getting familiar with her new
digs! Seeing sights! Smelling smells! Oh what wonderful
smells! :) She has a big buddy GSD to look up to and a
small, short person to play with, too. She will be ready,
willing and able to meet her forever family very, very
soon. Can we pencil you in for a date soon? Update: A note from
Zoe...I've grown a lot since my last posting! I'm a
healthy 39 lbs at 17 weeks. I love to play with
other dogs and my foster mom is having me meet
lots of people so I can be a social butterfly when I get
my forever home. I'm a bit shy at first but
I've come a long way from when MAGSR rescued me from the
shelter. Everyone says I'm a real lovebug once
I'm comfortable with my new human friends. I
love to impress everyone by doing tricks for treats.
I'm a favorite at the vets because I'm always so good
when the doctor is checking me out. They think my caramel
and black coloring is beautiful although my GSD foster
sister says I look more like a Rottie than a GSD. Watch
out world, the vet thinks I may be 80-85lbs when I'm fully
grown. If you are willing to give me lots of love and
attention, I'll give you lots of puppy kisses back. How
about making an appointment to meet me? Update: Hi this is Zoe- pronounced Zo-eee like Zoey 101. I've been hanging out at the kennel for a few months just chillin' . Because I have been such a "fraidy cat" in the past, the wonderful folks at MAGSR thought it was best for me to interact with a lot of different caring volunteers so I could build my confidence and learn to channel my fears appropriately. Everyone tells me I'm doing great! My tummy gets upset in the car so I like to hang out close to home. I'm really quite the "homebody" so guess what I'm missing- a home to call my own! In the past I've played very well with other young dogs so if you have a dog, that should be great! I especially like human ladies so I don't mind if I go to a home without a live-in dad. I have to promise to go to strict training with my new owner to make sure I continue to build confidence around strangers. I'm such a Love Bug I promise to be your very best friend if you decide to choose me. So how about it, are you that special person that will love me fur-ever? When you apply to MAGSR, make sure you list me as a must-see puppy! adopted 2/13/2010!!! Sex: Male
DESCRIPTION: Cooley is back with us and looking again for that forever home. Cooley tends to become nervous and anxious in certain situations and needs a bit of understanding and extra patience and guidance. He is smart and loyal and also a mite stubborn. Cooley will have to be brought along slowly and patiently - Cooley will need an equally strong willed and determined handler willing to devote a little extra time and effort into his acclimation into the family pack. Active and small children as well as new situations and strangers entering his living space tend to make him uneasy, so we recommend that he does go to a fairly quiet home with no or older children only. Cooley is a beautiful dog, shy and reserved, but with so much potential. He would benefit from a calm environment with some long walks, quality time in the backyard, a nice warm, soft bed and lots of love. Cooley will definitely need to train with his new family - and this will help give him the structure and the confidence to become that awesome dog that we just know he is. Cooley would love a foster home now -- while he is waiting. Please ask to meet Cooley. UPDATE: Hi Everyone, Cooley Kins here...That's what my friends call me at the kennel. I'm working on my socialization skills and am doing very good if I say so myself. My human friends tell me the same. I'm still a little skittish and startled by fast movements or loud noises. But I love my human friends and some of my k-9 friends, and I'm ok with the feline ones, too. I don't mind them if they don't mind me. I would love a quiet family and a warm bed, please. Hold the little humans, they make me too nervous, because they run and scream all over the place. A quiet place is really what would make me feel comfortable and secure. I've got lots of wet sloppy kisses for ya. Come see me, you won't be disappointed. ADOPTED 2/13/10! Sex: Female Good With Kids: Yes Description: Midnight's owner passed away and she was passed on to a family friend who turned out to be not such a good friend at all. Midnight was not treated well and that is a shame! She is one of the nicest, sweetest, friendliest dogs you will ever find! She is good with other dogs and is very gentle with children. Midnight could now really use a few sessions with a "Doggy Craig" type diet, and a serious weight management and exercise program! :) She is a bit "full figured". :) Apparently she had lots of food, but no real love and attention in her old home. She is looking to change all that now. Midnight will be a fantastic family friend and companion. She has been through so much before coming into the rescue. Midnight is waiting now in her foster home. She has the company of some doggy foster sibs and a young boy to help her exercise and get herself into shape for her forever home. She would love to fit in to any type of loving family. Won't you give her a second chance? Midnight's foster family will update soon with some new information and hopefully much better pictures -- was not Midnight's best side, she really is a cutie.... :) ADOPTED 2/13/10! Sex: Female DESCRIPTION: Ruby is a lovely little girl that is in search of a permanent home. She was given up because a family member had allergies and she was not allowed in the home because of this and had to spend a good deal of the time outside or in the garage. Not such a good thing to be outdoors in the cold, so here she is! Ruby is a nice girl - a little shy and hesitant at first, but once she warms up she is fine. Ruby knows some basic commands and will walk fairly well on the leash, but she is definitely in need of some fine tuning. :) She will definitely benefit from training and more socializing. Ruby is a quick learner and she has so much potential! Ruby will definitely catch on very quickly. She loves to play and chase the ball. She loves her kong and treats and is a great cuddler. This is a dog that will require some patience, needs structure and consistency and definitely needs to build up her confidence. A family with older children would be best as smaller, noisy children seem to make her a bit anxious. Ms. Ruby is waiting to meet you. Please do contact us to arrange a meeting with this pretty girl! UPDATE: Ruby is coming out of her shell. She's still somewhat shy with strangers but warms up once she feels comfortable. She's very mild mannered and oh so feminine! She's a clean, affectionate, petite little girl who missed out on some socialization early in her life. But she's making up for lost time now. She likes our dogs, loves to snuggle with us and sometimes with another dog, sleeps well through the night and is becoming more confident with each day she's here. She would benefit being in a home with another dog that is well balanced and confident. From what I've seen, she won't push to be the alpha dog. She lacks the confidence to be top dog. But what she will need is a confident family that will be fair and consistent and not coddle her fears. She will need to be introduced to things that are new to her to help her overcome any insecurities that she may have. She won't get too much bigger than she is now other than filling out. She walks pretty well on leash and is learning that car rides are fun. She tends to be a little finicky with her food but will sit for treats. She likes to play ball but isn't as much into plush toys as other dogs. Her favorite thing it to be with her people whether you're playing the yard, taking a walk, going for a ride or just relaxing at home. Her ideal home will be consistent, not chaotic or noisy. Until we learn more about her, I would not reccommend her for small children. But that may change. We'll keep you posted. adopted 2/2/2010!!! Sex: Male
DESCRIPTION: Meet Dundee! Young, bright, drop-dead handsome, completely untrained, pretty friendly, and very full of himself and ready to conquer the world! Make no mistake - Dundee is a fantastic dog! He is quite a find for the right family. He is smart, first of all. energetic secondly, and thirdly has a mind of his own.....which usually comes with being smart. :) Dundee will need a committed and knowledgeable handler/owner who is absolutely in it for the long haul. This dog is definitely worth all the time and energy and training that you put into him. Training is a must - especially for a dog such as Dundee. He needs to know that his person has control in order to place his trust in that person's hands. He needs structure and consistency and most of all lots of patience and love! ;) Training with Dundee should be a blast! He is so smart! He will definitely excel not only in basic obedience, but would probably go on to more advanced obedience - or maybe even agility or rally. Dundee is a forever keeper and he is waiting now. A foster home while he gets ready for that forever family would be wonderful. If you believe that you have what it takes to give this beautiful young dog a place in your family for life, please contact us. Update: Hi All, Dundee checking in. I've been in my foster home now for a week. And i'm settling in just fine. Working on my manners. My foster mom says i'm very good walking on a leash. Still working on this whole potty thing. I haven't had much of training in this area. My foster mom is very patient with me, only had one accident in my crate, only because I was very nervous in my new home, and a couple of accidents while I was exploring my new digs. I am a very playful pup, learning about these toy things. I see my foster sibs, who I must say, are much larger than me, carrying these things around in their mouths, throwing them in the air, and playing tug-of-war with them. Looks like lots of fun, I am a very smart and a fast learner. And my foster mom says I will need a family that will constantly give me stimulation in my brain and body. I require constant direction and instruction. I am still a pup and get bored very fast, and when I get bored I can get into trouble. I don't want to get into trouble that's why I want to learn as much as I can. Are you the family for me? Please schedule an appointment, you won't be disappointed, I promise. Update: Hi Folks, I've been in my foster home for two weeks, and my foster mom says i am growing bigger everyday, and my manners are too. I love going for my 2 mile walk with my foster brother every evening, and playing tag with my foster sister. I am 99% housebroken, of course if no one is paying attention to me, I may have an accident. But my foster mom says i'm very good with letting her know when I have to "go". I'm learning more about these toy things everyday. I love the ones with the fuzz inside. It's very easy for me to get in there and get that stuff out. My foster mom says i'm like a magician. I have a toy in my mouth, then magically there's white stuff flying in the air. I am a very smart boy, and will EXCEL in training. I can tell you I will love training as I require constant instruction and direction. Oh and I love to be outside playing/running/jumping. I am still a puppy. Are you the family for me?? Let's meet adopted 1/31/2010!!! Sex: Female DESCRIPTION: Ilsa is a really good looking lady that was down on her luck, landed in a shelter and did manage to turn it around and find her way to us. She is very people friendly - now ready to put that old life behind her and start anew! On her travels she did make a stop at a temporary foster home. Her hosts reported that she is wonderful in a crate - knew what to do. Is a pretty calm and settled girl - out of the puppy stage, but with enough vim and vigor to be a fun family pet. Ilsa is not a barky or jumpy kind of dog. She appears to be housebroken - no accidents. She was non reactive to cats - but that is something that has to be addressed on a one-on-one basis. It was noted at the vet's office that her canine teeth are pretty worn down - probably from chewing on either a wire kennel or a chain...not a good life for such a pretty girl. Ilsa is ok with other dogs given a proper introduction, but does want to be in charge as she did react to the household's Alpha dog - it is apparent that she does want that position for herself. A girl does like to be in charge, you know! :) Ilsa will spend a short time at the vet's office - having all the necessary vetting done and being spayed. She will be all ready for her forever home in a very short while. Ilsa will definitely need training - she will also need some patience and lots of love to make all the necessary adjustments to enable her to make her new family very proud - and to be the best dog ever! This is a nice, smart girl that needs a second chance. Please ask to meet Ilsa. ADOPTED 1/31/10! Sex: Female Good With Kids: Yes DESCRIPTION: Notice in "The Doggy Times"....."Single, mature, very full figured gal looking for a long term commitment leading to a lifetime relationship." :) Update: Punkin spent her Thanksgiving with her foster mom's family and had a wonderful time. She pretty much ignored all 5 cats, and made the rounds to friends and family for bottomless belly rubs during her 3-day stay at my parents' house. She was very polite around food, despite her strict diet. She had a crate and gated room available, but she adjusted so quickly and her behavior was so wonderful that we only used them at bed time. Punkin really impressed everyone she met with her winning personality and calm disposition. She spent much of her time with my frail, elderly grandmothers (85 and 90), keeping their feet warm and their hands busy. Everyone noted what a joy she was to have around and at the end of our stay the whole family was sad to see us go. Even one super-bold cat seemed sad to see the latest curiosity leave. Update: Punkin would like everyone to know that she's loving life and living it up in her foster home. She's become my shadow and wherever I go she's close behind, but never so close that she's in the way. She loves to sneak kisses when I bend down to tie my shoe or pick up a toy and is oh-so-patient when waiting for her food or the occasional treat. She has a wonderful sense of humor and is always doing something funny. Her tail is still in non-stop wag and she always has a smile on her face. Have I mentioned that Punkin is perfectly house trained? I do mean perfect. We haven't had a single accident in the house or the car, and she's been on some very long trips. She makes it through a full DC work day without any complaints. Punkin is a real joy to have around, with her positive 'can-do' attitude. This weekend she even kept up with me for a little jog around our local dog park. She's great on a leash and learns new things pretty readily. She's just as happy with belly rubs as she is with treats, so training will be easy. Punkin seems to make friends wherever she goes, old and young, furry and not. So far the only critter she's met that she didn't quite fancy was a Blue and Gold Macaw, but who can blame her, have you seen the beaks on those things? We've even learned that she does well with cats, and is maybe just a little afraid of them. Update: The more time I spend with Punkin the more I'm amazed at what I like to call her "eternal hopefulness." She has such a remarkably positive attitude, despite all that she's been through, and wants so badly to just be loved. Every night she follows me around the house, patiently waiting for a pat on the head or some belly rubs. If I ask her to lay down, she'll roll after me on the floor, trying to move towards me without getting out of her "down." She's learned some boundaries, and won't follow me into the kitchen or basement, instead waiting patiently by the door for my return. She's even learning to sit and wait before diving into her food bowl. She never complains, not so much as a whine or groan and is happy just to sit by me or walk by my side. Punkin is an easy walker, no pulling or running, who doesn't bark at other dogs, people, or even our ringing door bell. She's also taken to crate and gate training and will lay down in her room at bedtime and wait for the bedtime belly-rubs she gets before I close her gate. Punkin is good with kids, cats, and other dogs, and I picture her as a perfect companion for an older family, maybe one with young grandchildren- a family she could share her golden years with. She greets every morning with a stretch and a smile, tail wagging and happy to find whatever the day may bring. She is truly one of a kind. Following her example, I keep my hopes up that she will find her forever home soon. Are you the family Punkin has been hoping for? ADOPTED 1/30/10! Sex: Female DESCRIPTION: Sweet surprise in a small package! A dynamo, pint sized! A whirlwind of cuteness - ears flying! Glorianna! She is a typical, playful and loving puppy!! A pretty little girl that is just so happy to be out of the shelter and in a home! She loves everyone and everything! Glorianna has just arrived with her two sisters and is busy settling in and getting acquainted with her new foster home, her new foster mom, her fur fosters sibs, maybe a kitty or two and just having a blast doing it all! Adopting a puppy is a pretty big deal here at MAGSR - we want the very best for our little ones. They will need a good home, true, but in addition to the usual - food, toys, treats, training and good kibble, there is also a commitment to this puppy that will run - oh about 12 - 15 years. We want the puppy to belong to its people forever; and we want the adopters to realize the importance of this commitment to the pup. There will be messes, chewed things, expenses, good days and bad days. Will it be worth it? Oh yes, absolutely! This little girl will love you unconditionally forever and will joyfully (most of the time) just do what you want her to do because she wants to please. A training program - now is a good time to start - is required as part of our adoption contract. We guarantee that you will have fun - and will learn maybe just as much as Glorianna. :) She is sure to be at the head of the class. If you are ready to make a lifetime commitment to this puppy; ready to store all your knicknacks on the top shelf for maybe forever, ready to stock up on newspapers and dog toys.....contact us and we will arrange for you to meet her. UPDATE: Glorianna (Glori for short) in just a short time has settled in nicely with a fur brother and sister, three cats and several humans. Glori sleeps well in her crate, keeping it clean all night, and for a few hours during the day.
Glori is adjusting to life indoors, toys, good food and a loving touch from her new humans. She's an active little girl
and makes a good playmate for her fur sister & brother. She's growing in confidence and size and will make a
lucky family very happy! UPDATE: Glori is proof that great things come in small packages! The GSD part of her is
shining through as she has learned to walk well on leash-she loves going for a walk. She has
learned the "sit" command, and pretty much mastered the skill of letting me know when she needs
to "go". Glori loves her crate, squeaky toy and chew bone, playing with her big fur siblings and
meeting new fur-friends. She's still a little cautious with humans but knows they are great to
snuggle with on the couch or play ball with in the yard! Not to mention the yummy treats they
have to offer : ) Glori will do just about anything for a treat! ADOPTED 1/30/10! Sex: Male
DESCRIPTION: Sprocket has arrived! Young, Tall, Tan (with black) and Very Handsome! Also, energetic and untrained -- yeah, that, too. :) This young boy is simply beautiful and is so in need of a good home! Sprocket spent the better part of his 2 years chained. He would appreciate not having this done to him again, thank you! He just craves attention and is very, very eager to please. He rode well today with another dog and seemed to enjoy the company. A breed knowledgeable home is required. He needs structure, patience, consistency and training - big time. Sprocket promises to be the best family dog EVER! Just ask him! He rolls over for belly rubs and holds his paw up for a shake! He is waiting for your visit. Sprocket, the big friendly dude with the big smile! adopted 1/29/2010!!! Sex: Male Good With Kids: Yes Medical Alert! Elliott is heartworm positive and needs expensive care, please consider donating to our Medical Fund to help defray these costs. DESCRIPTION: Elliott and his BFF, Everett were part of a group of 6 German Shepherds that were confiscated from a dangerous situation -- seized because their owners were not caring for them properly. The Animal Control facility that took them was overwhelmed and they were in danger of being put to sleep. Elliott is extremely thin, malnourished and a little shy. He sweet and is good with other dogs and kids. Update: Well, I’m settled in and enjoying the good life- warm bed, food, and treats. I am able to go on small walks and my foster mom says I walk like a champ and have perfect house manners. I went to see my vet yesterday and I’ve put on 5 pounds!!!!! Since I’m doing so well, I’ve now begun the first step in my heartworm treatment. I’ll be on antibiotics for 30 days and I just got my first dose of heartworm preventive to kill those baby worms. Please consider donating to help with my care, as well as my brother Everett, Cindy, and Thor. Without MAGSR, none of us would survive. Adopted: 01/27/10! Sex: Male Good With Kids: Unknown
DESCRIPTION: Kimber is an absolutely gorgeous boy! He is a friendly guy - just wandering around on his own - looking for a good place to have a meal when he was offered a ride to the shelter. :) We do not know that much about him right now. We have no idea if he has ever been in a home. He seems to be familiar with a leash and, of course, no question, he will need to go to training. This is a requirement for adoption and only helps to bond the dog to his people. Kimber is presently at the vet's being checked out, getting neutered and will be ready to make his public appearance in no time at all! If you feel that you can give Kimber the forever home that he is waiting for, please contact us and make arrangements to meet him. adopted 1/24/10! Sex: Male
DESCRIPTION: Landon is a very nice big boy. He is kind of shy and a little scared at the moment. He is not sure just what is happening in his life right now. Landon was returned because he has Separation Anxiety and has a hard time being left alone during the day. He is crate trained and housebroken, but apparently is not happy when left alone for long periods of time. Landon will need a home that understands that this anxiety issue for a dog is a big deal, but it can be dealt with and resolved. Landon is very comfortable with another dog around, so another family dog might just be the very thing that would help him to deal successfully with his anxiousness. It will take time and patience, lots of patience and love. Landon is an awesome big boy! He is sweet, gorgeous and just happy to lean into you and have you pet and love on him. He knows his basics and he just loves to be with his people and learn. He is good with other dogs and not so good with kitties, so we recommend a non-feline home for him. :) This is a fabulous dog - won't you give him another chance? Landon is waiting now - and he is all ready to greet you. He would love a foster home while he is waiting for that permanent forever home! Come and see for yourself what a fantastic dog he is! UPDATE: Hi All, Landon here, just wanted to let you all know I'm still here at the kennel waiting patiently for my furever family to come and pick me up. I am very well behaved and smart, too. I walk great on a leash and love people and other dogs, as well as cats. And I'll do just about anything for treats. I am that smart. My friends here at the kennel tell me how wonderful I am all the time. And what a great pup and family member I'll make. I love to go for long walks, or just hang out and watch a movie. I'm that versitile. Come and meet me, you won't be disappointed. Sex: Female Good With Kids: Likely DESCRIPTION: Sylvie was rescued from a very rural shelter by one of our rescue angels. Although she might have had some hard times and some ups and downs in her previous life, Sylvie is just as sweet as can be - takes just about anything in her stride. She travels well in a car, is very, very friendly and you can see in her pretty brown eyes how much she wants to please you. This is a lovely lady that would like a nice home now. She is the type of dog that can fit in just about anywhere and with any family. A nice bed, some good food, walks each day and lots of love. Life should be good! :) Please contact us to arrange a meeting with Sylvie. Adopted 1/22/10! Sex: Male DESCRIPTION: Archer is a wonderful and fun-loving family dog that has been returned to us after two years with his family because he suddenly became aggressive to one of the family cats. Since this family has four cats in the household, Archer came back to us and is now actively seeking a home without kitties. Archer is house trained, knows basic obedience and has been a very much well loved member of his family. He is a happy and fun loving guy - a great family dog who loves to frolic and play with his toys. He has never been around younger children, but would most likely do just fine with older kids. If you would like to give this great dog another chance and have a cat free home, please let us know. We would be happy to have you meet him. Sex: Female DESCRIPTION: Little Sedona has just arrived! She is in her foster home - settling in and getting acquainted with some foster fur sibs, a few short humans and some tall ones, too! :) She was a little "ripe" from her trip here, so first order of business was a nice warm bath. She is a typical lovey, friendly, wiggly puppy; happy to play and play and run and run - then drop for nap! :) She is absolutely adorable! Sedona will need a puppy friendly household - she will need love, patience and training....lots of love, lots of training! :) Her foster mom will update soon with new pictures and more news about this pretty little miss. adopted 1/17/10! Sex: Male Good With Kids: Yes DESCRIPTION: Caleb came to MAGSR from a life as half of a breeding pair with Sequoia. Tied out in the backyard his whole life, Caleb was clearly neglected by his "owner." He was extremely underweight, his coat and skin were in very bad shape and to top it all off, he tested positive for heartworms. MAGSR stepped in to save him and give him that 2nd chance at life he so greatly deserves.
Now that Caleb has completed his treatment for heartworms and is free and clear, he is ready to be adopted! This handsome loving boy is such a joy to be around. His tail wags non-stop and he always has a smile on his face. It is unthinkable how anyone could treat him so poorly as I don't think I've ever met such a happy dog! There is not a mean bone in his entire body -- 100% happy bones! To go along with his great disposition, Caleb has a lot of smarts too and has picked up on housebreaking and training very quickly. This boy truly has it all except a forever home of his own. Will you be the one?
adopted 1/11/10! Sex: Female DESCRIPTION: Here is a pretty little lady who is looking for a new place to live because her owners lost their home. She is pretty, petite and very loving. Ciara is looking for a person to snuggle up to and love. She is young and untrained - will require a stint with a trainer and some obedience training under her belt, but is very eager to please and should be no trouble at all. This dog is a find! She is lovely and sweet and waiting......If you feel that you can commit to this pretty lady, take her to training and promise to keep her as part of your family forever, then please contact us to set up a meeting. If you have been waiting for just that perfect little girl......Ciara is worth the wait! Please contact us and arrange to meet her. UPDATE: Ciara is quite the lovable little spitfire! She's very pretty, energetic, social, ornery and can be somewhat vocal at times. In many ways, she's your typical puppy and she'll steal your heart in a second. She tends to be a little high strung. She is good about her crate and only has to be given a command and she goes in. However, we're working through a couple things right now. First is housebreaking. She can sleep in her crate through the night with no problems. But because of her high strung nature, when she gets stressed, she does have an occasional accident. Along with being high strung and very young, she is sometimes overreactive to loud noises or sudden gestures or movements. With this being said, I would not recommend her to families with toddlers or young children. She would do better in a household that is not chaotic or noisy. All puppies require time and patience and she is no different. She will need consistency, structure and training. Those three positive elements will help build a foundation for a happy, fulfilling future and she will gain self confidence and learn that what is scaring her now is really not so frightening after all. Though Ciara is a very pretty little girl, please first consider the energy level, temperament and needs of the dog you are looking at.
UPDATE: Ciara is settling in quite nicely. She is fully housebroken and is doing quite well. Perhaps all the recent changes in her life prior to residing with us made her a little anxious. She is offleash with our pack inside and outside. She sleeps quietly through the night outside of her crate. However, she happily resides in her crate when we leave the house. She likes her crate and her family will need to provide the same type of veri-kennel for her as she considers it her den. She's good about her nails being cut and her teeth being brushed. As for her being overreactive, we don't see that much anymore. She's now your normal, spunky, playful, petite, little cutie pie. She is going to excel in training as she is very attentive. She loves to learn new things and is eager for direction. She's still ornery but she does settle down and relax when needed. But even with that being said, because she's so young, she's going to require daily rigorous exercise. She still needs some socilization in the way of taking her to various places. This will help her understand how to behave outside of her home. For the most part, she's doing okay with that but it will probably be a work in progress for some time. But as for her in our home and peacefully coexisting with our pack, we're happy report that she is doing excellent and we couldn't be any happier with her progress! I would recommend she go to a family who have another dog as she still has some to learn about sociailization. This will help her immensely down the road.

He was found wandering around and taken in by some kind people who knew it just was so wrong for a nice boy like him to be without a roof over his head! Well, here he is! Chance. Young, handsome, happy, extremely friendly, very bouncy and energetic and in need of a home. Chance is still a puppy and has puppy manners (read very little) :), and he has so much to learn, but is so very eager to please. You can almost see the wheels turning when you talk to him. He is the type of pup that will willingly do anything for his people. He needs structure and boundaries and lots and lots of training...and this is so beneficial for both dog and owner, and it will be lots of fun! This is a dog that will become a wonderful family pet and companion. Chance is having the "necessary stuff" done right now at the vet's office, but will be all ready for his next adventure soon. Please contact us if you would like to be part of his adventures! We will be glad to arrange a meeting. UPDATE: Hi Everyone, Last Chance here, that's what the people here tell me I was, before I got rescued by MAGSR. I'm a young pup, still bouncy and full of myself with lots of energy. I'm working on my leash manners and how to be a good pup, IF THAT'S POSSIBLE JUST BEING A PUPPY. I love treats, humans, k-9's, and yes cats, too. I would love a family and a warm bed please forever and ever. I'm not your xtra large gsd....I'm on the small to medium, maybe miniature gsd. Yeah, I'm a miniature gsd. And just as good looking too. Ask to meet me, you won't be sorry. In fact, I've got something for you....WET SLOPPY KISSES :) I'm waiting. Sex: Female
DESCRIPTION: This little sprite is Gigi. She and her two sisters, Glorianna and Gina have just arrived from far, far away. :) They are all looking for a wonderful home. A home that will last a lifetime. Gigi is the shyest of the group - she takes a while to warm up and feel comfortable - but then she is just fine. She is an inquisitive and curious little girl and loves to explore. She and her sister, Gina are together in their new foster home - getting used to family life and learning new things everyday. Gigi is a typical puppy with all the puppy behaviors - good and some not so wonderful. :) Adopting a puppy is a pretty big deal here at MAGSR - we want the very best for our little ones. DESCRIPTION: When Sweeney was found by an animal control officer and taken to a shelter he was skin and bones, less than 50 lbs and very smelly. He had every worm known to man inside that scrawny body and probably a few we aren't familiar with. :( Sweeney has some scarring on his face and muzzle and part of one ear is missing. We do not know his history up until the shelter called us, but now he is safe. He is so sweet and loving; so friendly and forgiving of all that has happened to him. The shelter took him in, treated him and fed him and fed him and notified MAGSR. Sweeney is, in a word, or two - :) a love! He is very, very loving and now has blossomed into a puppy! Yes! He is learning what it is like to be in a loving home and getting fed regularly, having people who care for him and furry friends to run around like crazy and explore the universe with. He is happily residing in a wonderful foster home, but on the look out for that forever family. Sweeney will need some training and some patience, but all in all, he is a true find. This is a nice dog - and he will be a great family dog for the right family. If you think that you can give Sweeney the life that should be his from now on, please contact us and arrange to meet this special boy. Update: Sweeny is a wonderful example of an older puppy. He is completely fascinated with everything new that comes his way and must put everything at nose level in his mouth. He is housebroken, crate trained, not food aggressive. He loves all toys but has not destroyed one yet. He is more than willing to share any edible you happen to have. His very large feet do not seem to obey his commands yet and he appears to flop all over the place. He does not like raised voices and flees for the outdoors. He loves it outside and inside. He gets along well with his older foster brothers and cantankerous older foster sister. He would do well in a home with another fur sibling as he learns very quickly from them. He rode nicely in my car on his way home and seemed to truly enjoy the wind in his ears. adopted 1/02/10! Sex: Female Good With Kids: Unknown DESCRIPTION: Here we have Ms. Samantha. Sam to her friends. Sam is a lovely puppy looking for a new home because sadly her owner is no longer able to adequately care for this young, energetic and lively young dog. Sam has been very much loved, maybe more than a little spoiled :) and is quite un-socialized. She needs to work on her manners, her socialization and her basic obedience skills. Sam will require a knowledgeable and dedicated owner to help her and work with her. Sam is now under evaluation with a trainer and is working on those very skills. If you would like more information on Sam, please contact us. Update: Hi Sami here!! Well I have been in my foster home for about a month and a half now and doing well. My foster mom says I am a great houseguest! I don't touch or chew on anything but my toys!! I am crate trained and I love going in my kennel sometimes just to relax. I know my basic commands such as sit, down, stay, come, heel and shake. I LOVE to play fetch and always have my KONG nearby!!! I get along great with my foster brother Rocky and all of his cool doggy friends. I have been working on my socialization skills and doing much better. I am still fearful and anxious with new situations, but with a little encouragement, patience and confidence I conquer them quickly. Well, gotta go......Rocky is getting more attention than me!!!! adopted 1/02/10! Sex: Female Good With Kids: Likely DESCRIPTION: Marlowe was rescued by a wonderful, dog-friendly good Samaritan. She was found extremely emaciated and had what appeared to be a rather severe old injury to one of her rear legs.....she was unable to bear weight on it. She has been well cared for by her rescuer and is now resting comfortably in her new foster home with fur foster siblings and a wonderful foster mom. Marlowe is a very pretty little girl. She is extremely sweet and gets along well with other dogs - both little and large. :) This lovely and petite young dog will make some family a wonderful and loyal companion. Her foster mom will update soon with new information and pictures. Update: Poor little Miss Marlow, it was determined that she had in fact broken her leg sometime ago, it never healed properly and was causing her a lot of pain. A week ago she underwent surgery to repair the damage caused by the break, clean up the resulting scar tissue and she is now, a week later, is doing amazingly well. She is currently on the "injured reserve list" She can't understand why she can't play with her foster siblings but in now time she will be back running and playing with them. Her surgeon says all indications are that she will make a full recovery.
Marlowe thanks everyone who contributes to Chomper Fund as it is you who made her surgery possible and gave her back the ability to run, play pain free and be the sweetheart everyone who meets her says she is.
