FINALLY GOING HOME!
Donation receipts available upon request. ADOPTED 12/30/09! DESCRIPTION: What a sweet looking guy! Just look at that sad face! Hercules up until now has not had a very easy life. He has not been treated well at all and deserves so much more than he had. He was found tied out with no shelter or food or water and was literally in a mud hole.....this was his life. Yet his disposition is sweet and gentle and loving. He is a little timid and scared of sudden movements because he was kicked and abused, but he is not at all aggressive, just a little wary, and that is completely understandable. Hercules needs to build up his trust in people a bit and gain confidence. With the right home, good food, a nice warm bed and finally a roof over his head and people who love him, he will be fine! He is crate trained and a fairly quiet boy although he is still super thin and looks so pitiful. We just know that with some patience, lots of love and training, this beautiful dog is going to be a fantastic and loyal and loving companion. He is with a foster now and is ready to meet and greet you. If you would like to meet Hercules, please contact us to set up a meeting. You won't be sorry, he is a great dog! Update: "Herc" is a gentle giant. A big-hearted puppy with an even larger body, that is still growing. Herc has met the cats
and is quite respectful of them. He is a mellow boy that loves his head in your lap combined with a good ear scratching.
Herc has learned "sit" and "down", continues to excel in leash manners, and is enjoying the great fun of ball play!
Christmas is close and nothing could be better than to have this lovey-bear beneath the tree in his forever home. adopted 12/28/09 Sex: Female
Laurell
K. Hamilton is the author of two New York
Times Best Seller series which mix mystery, fantasy, magic,
horror and romance. There are now more than six million
copies of Laurell’s first series in print worldwide
and her second series is on its way to the top! Ms. Hamilton
lives in St. Louis County, Missouri with her husband,
daughter, two pug and two part pug dogs.
Laurell and her assistant Darla
have generously donated to help Delia, and have previously
helped another MAGSR dog, Saydee. Delia sends big wet sloppy kisses to Laurell and Darla
for helping her! They are two of her Angels on Earth! It is with the generosity of such kind and bighearted
people that together we are able to help so many abused,
neglected and voiceless dogs. Laurell also promotes spay
and neutering, and showcases adoptable dogs on her website.
MAGSR is listed as one of her charities. SAD UPDATE: My sweet Dee crossed the Rainbow Bridge this morning as I held her in my arms and told her how very much she was loved. Dee had already lost the use of her back legs, a victim of DM, when she came to me and her cruel disease struck again on Friday disabling her front legs also. I hoped against hope that it was just a set back but sadly it wasn't. DESCRIPTION: You might have seen Delia before. Delia was the lead
story a short while ago on the local news. The news
team was doing a story in the neighborhood and someone
called their attention to her. It was a particularly
hot day for spring, over 82 degrees and when the
news team arrived on the scene, they were understandably
horrified. This once beautiful Black German Shepherd
dog was almost unrecognizable. She was in an unshaded
backyard and had mange, open oozing sores over at least
75% of her body and was lying in filth with flies buzzing
over her head. One eye was totally closed and covered
with sores. There was no sign of water or shelter
anywhere. When she got up, a huge mammary tumor
was visible hanging from her underside. Her owner
was ordered to give her up to the Animal Control
officers who subsequently notified MAGSR. We welcomed
her. Update: When Delia (Dee) first came to stay with us she had undergone yet another change in her life; she was very sad and just wanted to be left alone thank you. It took about a week and then slowly the very special girl that she is started to shine through. Dee is still shy when new people visit but she is a bundle of spunk and love when things are quiet. She no longer has the use of her back legs, they were stolen from her by her cruel disease, but she does not allow that to stop her. She slides her back end behind her as she determinedly pulls herself where ever she wants to go and please don't even think of getting in her way. Up and down hall way, out the door and on to the deck and, when she is feeling really adventurous, down the ramp and across the yard. We are working on getting her used to her wheelchair but she prefers her way much better. adopted 12/27/09! Sex: Male Good With Kids: Yes DESCRIPTION: I am Clipper, the runt of the litter. I was only 6.8 ounces when I was born – half of Flurry’s size. Aunt Patty had to work hard to make sure I made it. She’d sit on the sofa with Mom so I could have a little more to drink. I am a healthy 4 pounds now. Aunt Patty says I am tenacious and I know I am her favorite pup. I’m kinky too, at least my tail is. I was born with a crick in my tail which only adds to my personality. Update: We've been busy growing and now we're 11 weeks old! Barrow is 17 pounds and Clipper finally made 8 pounds. The rest of us are somewhere between them. We're smart puppies and trying hard to learn what me need to learn to be good puppies. We love to play outside and chase each other in the leaves! Can we have a home with you, please? Update: Blizzard, Clipper and Tundra are singing, in three part harmony "All we want for Christmas is our very own homes, our very own homes, yes, our very own homes. If we could have our very own homes then we could have a Merry Christmas!" Update: This is Clipper! Great things do come in small packages! Look at me! I weigh 15 pounds now and I am a very confident young man who absolutely loves to be were the action is. I love to run around and play then I am happy to chill with a bone when playtime is over. My special tail adds a certain panache to my dancing. I am one special pup and I will make your holidays special! adopted 12/19/09! Unfortunately her rescuer could not keep her forever and surrendered her to the shelter in hopes of her finding her way to a brighter future. Well, here she is! :) Sadie is a find! She is a beautiful puppy and very, very sweet. She is familiar with a home and house trained already - may need a refresher course, but she is willing to do all that it takes to please her people. She is not too bad walking on a leash, but of course will need to go to obedience training as part of our adoption contract....she will learn very quickly - and this will help her bond to her family. This girl is so pretty! :) She almost sparkles when she looks at you! Right now she is visiting the vet's office, getting her vaccines updated and being spayed. Sadie would love to hang out in a foster home while she is waiting for her forever folks. Won't you ask to meet this pretty little miss? You will not be disappointed - she is a keeper! adopted 12/19/09! Sex: Female DESCRIPTION: Lovely Marley was picked up as a stray - just wandering around on a walkabout - checking out the sites of the city. She is very, very sweet and anxious to find herself a more permanent place to live. Marley is a little skinny and could use some good, nutritious food. :) She will need a bit of training - and that is a requirement for adoption. Training teaches the members of the family not only how to become good pet owners and how to train their dog, it is an invaluable tool to cement the bond that is necessary for the dog to look to her person as the alpha or head of her family - her pack. It really does make for a nicer, happier dog - and a happy family. :) Marley will need to learn the proper way to walk on a leash, some house manners and other very necessary requirements in order for her to become "just perfect". She is a beautiful girl and smart and will make some lucky household a wonderful loyal companion and family pet. Marley is at the vet's right now being spayed, and checked out. She will be ready to meet and greet the public very soon. If you think that Marley would complete your family, please contact us and ask to meet her. ADOPTED 12/16/09! Sex: Male
DESCRIPTION: Dewey is a very special pup who needs a home. His person decided to up and leave him and move on without him. He is an exceptionally sweet dog, a little bit shy, but not overly so.....just wants to take new things a little slow and cautious. He is very friendly and just craving affection. He is all wiggles and tail wags and slurpy kisses when he figures out that you are going to be a pal! :) Dewey will bond very quickly and tightly to his family - and with the right family and some training he will just shine. He is also going to be a knockout when he fills out and grows into his ears! ;) He has the loooooooongest and bushiest tail; it sweeps the ground. Dewey is still very much a puppy and has a lot to learn as is the way of all puppies. He will need training with his family to help him become a confident and well behaved and well rounded dog. Please take all the pros and cons of owning and caring for a puppy before you ask to meet Dewey. A lifetime commitment to the dog is absolutely required. Dewey is at the vet's right now having that all important stuff done to get him ready to move into his forever home. He should be all ready soon. Dewey would love a foster home while he is waiting for his forever family. If you are sure that you will be able to give Dewey the kind of home that he deserves, please contact us to set up a meeting Sex: Male DESCRIPTION: Raleigh came in to the shelter as a stray. He is a very good looking boy- (better pictures are coming soon! :) - and just a bit confused at all the new sounds, sights, people and commotion going on around him. He is friendly - just a bit shy, but does warm up after a bit and you can see he is looking for a person or a family to call his very own. We do not know that much about him at this point, but it is apparent that this is a nice boy and he is now looking forward to finally having a good home and good food, some fun times and a safe place to hang his collar and leash! Raleigh needs some training; it is not known whether or not he is used to being inside a home or lived outdoors, but this boy is ready! He would love to come and camp out with you in a foster home for a short time while he is waiting for that perfect family to come down the road. Right now Raleigh is at the vet's office waiting to be checked out, neutered and made all ready to meet and greet his public! Won't you ask to meet him? He is smart enough to know just how much he can get away with and will push his boundaries, so he needs a home with an experienced owner who will commit to an extensive training program with him. Batista is a very beautiful boy - and he knows it! He capitalizes on his good looks, too! The information from his former owners and the shelter is that he can scale a 6' fence, and he easily opens kennel run gates, and would sometimes greet the staff in the morning in the office.:D His adoptive family must have a secure and pretty high fenced in yard for this boy! :) Batista needs someone - or a family - who has enormous amounts of patience and is up to a challenge. He is absolutely worth it! He is a gorgeous and fantastic dog that will reward his family with his unconditional love forever. If you believe that you can give this dog the structure, the love and the home that he will have forever, please ask to meet - Batista. Sex: Female Good With Kids: Likely Medical Alert! DESCRIPTION: Cooper apparently has had a hard life! He was turned into a shelter by someone who did take him in as a stray, but then had to give him up after about 3 weeks because he went after their cat. So he has lived briefly with teenagers and is probably more or less accustomed to a household routine. He is quite thin - and apparently has not been fed regularly in the past as he is a bit growl y around his food. He will need a home with people who have had experience not only with the breed, but with a dog that has special issues because of neglect, possibly abuse, and definitely has had no training to speak of - and no manners! He is friendly - will slobber you with kisses - and probably knock you over, too! :D Cooper is a big boy - or should be,:) -- needs some meat on his bones - and definitely will need his owners to commit to a training program to enable this dog to become all that he should be. Cooper has immense potential - he needs a special, loving family or foster. Right now he is recuperating from a respiratory infection at the vet's office. He should be ready for new adventures and a new home very soon. UPDATE: Hi! Cooper here! I am all better - all finished my medication and not sick anymore and have moved from the vets office. I am all ready now for that forever home the nice man that brought me here promised me. I am gonna hold him to it. I have been without a home for a long time now. There are things I need to learn and re-learn - and I definitely need someone who is very dedicated and familiar with a beautiful but obstinate and mouthy UPDATE: Hi Everyone, Coop here, I'm loving this warm weather, and the pool. I love it !! I've brushed up on my obedience training, and if I must say so myself, am very smart and the volunteers who take care of me tell me all the time too. I love to go for walks, I am a very big boy, so would love an experienced gsd person or family. I love to go to meet and greets and meet all kinds of people. I love attention and treats, which I was lacking before I came to this rescue. Make an appointment to meet me please. UPDATE: Cooper has been with his foster “family” for about three weeks now, and we’ve learned a little more about his behavior in a home, and his challenges outside the home environment. Cooper has been with the Rescue for many months, most of them in our kennel environment, and his adjustment to my home and routine has been smooth and easy. This speaks volumes to this young dog’s ability to flex with the demands placed on him. Cooper is young, beautiful, friendly to all people (all ages, both sexes), responsive to training, anxious to please, smart, a bit goofy…. all wrapped in a quintessential GSD package of loyalty, unbridled enthusiasm and unqualified love. What more could a family want? If you are a household with experience with GSDs and mindful of their training requirements, please ask to meet Cooper. He’s waiting patiently… Sex: Female Good With Kids: Older DESCRIPTION: Someday this very beautiful young girl will become just as lyrical and charming as her beautiful name suggests. Someday, soon. At the moment, Calypso is a typical young dog that has not had the benefit of a proper and ladylike upbringing. :) She has to learn everything! She is a sweet, delightful and adorable, rough and tumble diamond in the rough! Mouthy? Oh yes! Jump on you? Right! Energetic? You got it! Smart? Right again! Potential? Tons! She has had no instruction at all. Calypso was tied to a barn somewhere in the country, and a gentleman took her home, but before he could do much with her he had an accident and was unable to care for her at all so he turned her into a local shelter. We are not sure if she was ever in a house, so do not know if she is housebroken. Because of her youth and energy level, older children or teens rather than toddlers or young children are recommended. This gorgeous dog needs guidance and structure and above all training. She needs to know how to properly walk on a leash, how to greet a stranger and how to be a well-behaved dog in general! :) She needs a family that will commit to her for the rest of her life. A foster home would be perfect for her right now -- get her started in her etiquette and polish her manners. :) Ask to meet Ms. Calypso. She will sail away with your heart! :) Adopted 11/30/09!
Sex: Male Good With Kids: Yes - Older DESCRIPTION: Titus is a truly beautiful dog! He was turned into the shelter because his owner suddenly passed away and a family member could not care for him. He is understandably a little confused and slightly depressed right now - a little detached; but he does come out of his shell a bit when he is talked to and taken out for a short walk and you take the time to get him to relax. Because of his size he may be better suited for a family with older children and no cats. If you have breed experience and can offer Titus the structure and consistency and the time and training he will require and need - you will have a fantastic family member for life. Titus is at the vet's right now having his vaccines updated and being neutered. He will be ready in a very short time to meet his forever family. Ask to meet Titus. UPDATE: Titus loves to travel! When I picked him up from the shelter, he was ready to go! He did not like his stay at the shelter and it made him a bit nervous. But this happens quite often when a dog's world has been turned upside down. Change is tough on dogs. Anyway, when I opened the door to my truck, up and in he went and he rode like a champ! When we got to the vet's office, he was curious about his new environment. He was a champ there, too. He sat and laid down for me in the waiting room. He also rolled over onto his side in a submissive gesture and wanted his belly scratched. He loves belly scratches. He was very relaxed at the vet and also began to play just a little. How many dogs have you see play in the waiting room at a vet's office? Titus is very curious about the world and his family will need to introduce him to new things and show him that change is okay. And the more confident and comfortable his family isthe more comfortable he will be. Dogs are our mirrors. Both Titus and his former family have undergone sudden and traumatic changes recently. We wish his former family all the best. As for Titus, in the time I have worked with him, it was clear that he is ready to move on with life and bond with his forever family. Adopted 11/28/09 Sex: Male Good With Kids: Yes DESCRIPTION: Hi! Sweeps here. I am so happy that MAGSR has saved my life. I spent ALL of my life outside in a backyard filled with junk tied with a four foot chain to a ramshackle shed. I was hardly fed any food and shown no attention what so ever. Thankfully, I am in foster care and a learning leash, home and socialization manners. I am residing with 4 other GSD’s and they are teaching me the ropes. I love to play and run with my other fur friends. I am every energetic and so very excited and happy all the time. I have gained some much needed weight and my coat is now very shiny. I am currently 55lbs and holding. I love long walks, car rides and just about anything that involves human or dog contact. I have been told that I am too excitable for the three cats that I am staying with. They are not happy with me but they are trying to be patient. I have been smacked a few times. Hopefully in time I may be able to settle down with them. They are just too cool, I can’t stand it. I am a little shy around men. See I was abused by the man that owned me. His plans were to sell me to a research lab. So it takes me just a little time to warm up but once I realize I am safe then that is when all the lovin begins. I will be yours forever. I have recently been identified with Hemolytic Anemia. I was sick for a short time but I bounced back very quickly. This condition did not and has not stopped me from being a normal dog in fact my foster Mom says I have more energy and enthusiasm then any dog she has every seen. I can run circles around my roomies. Please ask to see me today. You will not be disappointed I guarantee it! Update: Sweeps is settling into his new foster home very well. He's had a 2-day intensive training on the use and enjoyment of toys and seems to be catching on. Last night we had the joy of watching him toss around a big rubber ball like a seasoned pro! He still has a bit of puppy energy, and at times seems spring-loaded with excitement. We had guests over the weekend who were EXTREMELY impressed at how well behaved he was, given his recent relocation. He is good with other dogs and pretty good with kids. Because he's a little bouncy and food driven he might be best with older kids who's hot-dogs aren't nose level and who won't be easily toppled by an overly enthusiastic greeting.
Sweeps also got to meet lots of people at the Germantown Meet & Greet on Sunday. He got along with every dog he saw and was super well behaved, allowing people of all shapes and sizes to pet him, treat him, and help him decorate the spiffy donation jacket he was sporting. He takes treats gently and with great enthusiasm. He's learning sit, down, out, and wait and would excel at obedience training (especially if there are treats involved). He is crate trained and does not bark when people come to the door or pass by the house. Could Sweeps be the perfect addition to your household? Ask to meet him today! adopted 11/27/09! DESCRIPTION: Majik will bewitch you! :) She is a gorgeous young lady in need of a permanent home. She was given up because her people could no longer care for her. Majik is young, a little unsure of her new surroundings right now, and needs some tweaking in the etiquette department, but is a very fast learner. She picks up verbal corrections very quickly and should be a quick study in her training classes. She needs the socialization of other animals as well as socialization and exposure to people. She is very curious about the world right now, but lacks just a little confidence. This will all come in time. Majik already knows a few commands such as, sit, down, paw, ....and she is a jumper! :) She can scale a 5' fence, so a securely fenced yard - and over 5' should be part of her new home. This lovely lady will make a wonderful family pet....she needs patience and commitment to help her reach her full potential. Majik is now getting settled in her new foster home. Now she has a whole pack of fur buddies to hang out with! Her foster parents will update soon with more information and news about this sweet girl. If you think that she would be just what you are looking for in a loyal companion and four footed member of your family, please contact us to arrange to meet her. UPDATE: We've become quite fond of this little cutie pie! What's not to love? She's a petite, housebroken, obedient, gorgeous little bundle of joy! She loves kisses on her nose and forehead and gets along great with her foster brother and foster sisters. They are helping her learn that car rides, vaccuum cleaners and leaf blowers aren't such scary things after all. She may have missed out on some socialization at an early age and she is just a tick reserved or unsure about things that are alien to her and her new family will need to properly introduce her to all the world has to offer. Training (a requirement of adopting) will greatly improve her self confidence. In addition, you being a good pack leader will afford her the opportunity to relax as well. Even with all of this said, she isn't overly timid or completely lacking in self confidence. She loves people and bonds very quickly. Even given her young age, her energy level is medium and I sometimes wonder if she may be a few months older than what we first estimated. She's not a huge chewer and as a result, all of our table legs, shoes and furniture are intact. She has the run of house while we're home, she crates very well when we're not and hasn't had a potty accident to date. She is playful, inquisitive, sometimes exuberant and affectionate. But even given that she is young and somewhat playful, she is not a pup that is on the go all the time. She really enoys her time with her people whether that time being spent could be chasing a ball, going on a walk or relaxing late at night. That's not to say that she won't require exercise. She will, daily. After all, she is still a pup. But she's a medium energy level pup that is in tune with your energy, should you decide to go outside and play or you are just relaxing after a long day of activity. She would do best in a medium energy level household. But one that isn't too chaotic. adopted 11/22/09 Sex: Female Good With Kids: 10 and Older DESCRIPTION: Tara came in to the shelter as a stray. She is shy and unsure of just what is happening in her life right now. Tara is a little skittish and timid at first, but after a few quiet words and maybe some yummy treats, she warms up to you and is all ready to go for a walk. She appears to have had little or no training - needs to learn not to jump up on people and how to walk on the leash without pulling. She seems eager to learn, but hesitant. Tara will need a family that will patiently gain her trust and love -- give her time to adjust to her surroundings and feel comfortable. She will need to be taken to training - and that is required. Training not only teaches the dog how to be a great and obedient pet, it teaches the human how to be a great owner -- and training establishes the bond that is so necessary between the dog and its owner. This is a beautiful dog, possibly not treated well, possibly cast out because someone could not take the time that is necessary to train a wonderful companion. If you are interested in Tara, please contact us. Update: "Tara the talker" is an exuberant, lean, talking machine! She vocalizes quite a bit at times! Though Tara is a bit scared at the kennel, once she's out of her kennel run, she's warms up quickly and she can be found giving kisses, leaning and wagging her tail around those that she is comfy with. She came to us after being caught as a stray and she is your typical young, high strung female. She appears to to not have had much in the way of stability early on in her life. However, she is willing to overcome her lack of confidence as long as she knows her handler has everything under control. She relaxes very quickly as long as you let her overcome her insecurities in her own time and not overwhelm her by forcing her to deal with things that concern her. In other words, at the beginning, give her time to approach and let her decide that new people are good. She's been through change after change after change and what she needs now is stability and consistency. She met our male GSD and one of our female GSDs and she did VERY well with them. It may do her some good to be with another dog that is confident, calm, cool and collected. Dogs learn quickly from other dogs and another dog may be just what she needs to give her the confidence she needs. Even if she doesn't warm up in the first couple minutes after meeting her, give her some space and a little time. Once you do, you'll see the sweet side of her blossoming before you and you'll be glad you were patient. Update: Tara loves to run and play, the mud doesn't bother her one bit! She is a friendly girl once she knows you, just takes her a a liitle bit to warm up to strangers. Stop and see her, she's a real sweetheart! Sex: Male Good With Kids: Likely DESCRIPTION: Meet Ace! He will need patience - he apparently has had little in the way of training and will definitely need this - and this is a requirement to his adoption. He will also require a commitment to the dog that this pup will become - for the life of the dog. This is only fair. So, lots of love, some good food, nice bed (his, not yours ;), patience, training, playtime and you have a great dog who will bond very deeply to his people and will give you unending love and companionship. Ace is now ready to meet his future family. Can he pencil you in for an interview? Please contact us and ask to meet Ace. adopted 11/18/09 Sex: Female Good With Kids: Yes DESCRIPTION: I am the smallest girl and the most beautiful with my flashing dark eyes. Her family is unable to care for her any longer and she has come to MAGSR seeking fame, fortune, and a permanent home! :) Lilly is a beautiful girl - young and untrained, but very willing to learn. Lilly is shy, but does warm up quickly to a kind voice and a gentle touch. It is not known if Lilly spent much time indoors, but she is clearly wanting this to be her lifestyle from now on. Yessireee - a nice warm bed, good food, maybe a bath and a brushing to make a girl feel oh so good - some training down the road a bit, and she is golden! Lilly will need training - she realizes that good manners are very, very important. Sweet Lilly would love a foster home right now. Ask to meet her. We are sure she will have you wrapped around her paw in no time at all! adopted 11/14/09 Sex: Male DESCRIPTION: Reno is a sweet tempered and very handsome young man. He was dropped off at a shelter and now is actively seeking new digs! He would really, really love to have his own home once again. We are not too sure of his circumstances - he did come in with other dogs - but whether or not he is related to them, well, it's a mystery! :) They all sort of resemble each other! :) Reno is young - not too puppy nutty anymore, but still young enough to have fun with. He would love his own family now, please. And he does promise to be a good boy. He will need to learn the ropes - the niceties of living in a home, how to greet people correctly and all that stuff. He is ready. Take him to training - he will make sure you learn, too. Reno may be crate trained and he may be housebroken, not sure.....but we are sure that this beautiful dog is going to make some family very proud. Has a beautiful face! :) And, he is housebroken, loves kids, and lived with and is gentle with cats and other dogs. He is also housebroken and crate trained! Whew! What a guy! A little tweaking, some training to cement a new family bond, and you have yourself a great family pet. Rocco is understandably sad at losing his family and friends, but dogs are so forgiving -- he is ready to move on now and he is just waiting for the right people to contact us to set up a meeting. He is now looking for a permanent home to rest his paws and enjoy the good life. We are not sure if he was kept entirely outdoors or if he did spend time in a home. He is smart and eager to please; typically Shepherd in his intelligence, carriage and presence. He has not had much in the way of formal training - and this is required, of course. It only serves to cement the bond between dog and owner and is essential in helping establish the human as the alpha. Any dog will be happier knowing he has a strong alpha in his "pack" or family to keep him safe and take care of him. Radar will make an excellent student at his training classes - we guarantee it! If you feel that this gorgeous dog will complete your family and are ready to commit to giving him a wonderful home and all that goes with it for his lifetime, please contact us. He is a handsome boy who has a lot of catching up to do to grow into those ears! He is a typical puppy, bouncy, wiggly, playful and active, with some very sharp little puppy teeth! He has so much to learn - so far to go! Little puppies grow and become much larger dogs. Surprise! A puppy is exactly what you put into him as far as training and shaping the dog that this puppy will become. It is a big responsibility. Puppies require a lifetime commitment of approximately 10 - 15 years. The adoption of a puppy is something that should never be taken lightly. Never for a moment assume that raising a puppy is going to be a piece of cake. :) Puppies are messy, expensive, frustrating and adorable, all rolled into one very energetic bundle of fur!. All of our puppies are very special to us at MAGSR and we become very involved in their subsequent placement.. Please do your research and make sure that this breed is right for you and you are committed and prepared before applying to adopt. This little man will require much training and structure and consistency as well as patience for a long, long, time -- along with all the love that you can give him. She has spent a long time in the shelter just waiting for us to come and take her into the rescue and find that forever home that she knows is waiting for her. Onyx is a little timid, a bit shy, but warms up to people that do take it slow and wait for her to make the first sniff. :) She is very familiar with being part of a family and you can see that she does miss this part of her life. Small, active and noisy children make her very nervous and anxious, so she would like us to let you know that she would much prefer a home without them....a home more suited to a lady who enjoys the quieter things in life! :) Onyx is a dear, dear soul. Some training with her people, good food, a brushing and some treats now and then...wonderful! She loves her treats and being petted. And a nice warm and comfy bed and some walks and quiet time with her people would be heaven! Onyx is well past the puppy stage. She is a quiet and settled lady that would fit in with almost any settled family who wishes to share their lives with a loyal and loving companion. Come and meet this pretty lady. She will steal your heart. I promise! ;) adopted 11/1/09
DESCRIPTION:Belle is back with us because her owner became very ill and could not care for her any longer. She is understandably confused about what has happened to her.-- Right now she is just a little depressed. She is a resilient girl, though - and will put this behind her and get ready for the next chapter in her life pretty quickly. Belle is a sweet girl, a little bit chunky - could use some nice long walks to get her back in shape, and she does walk pretty well on a leash. She has a mellow disposition and is really missing living in a home with a family. She does enjoy the company of other dogs and has lived with a fur brother. Come and visit with her. Sit a spell and let her tell you all about her past adventures. Belle is waiting now for the next chapter in her life....her bags are packed, her paws are ready to move on. She could use a foster home while waiting for her permanent digs....Ask to meet this Belle of the Ball. She is a sweetie. Update: Belle went to a meet and greet today and had a wonderful busy day meeting potential adopters… and when there were no adopters around, she just played quietly on the floor with a few toys. She appears to have great house manners, does not try and climb on any furniture and went right into her crate when asked to… and no accidents in my house.
Later we went for a nice walk and she walked very well on a European lead, I didn't have to pull her back, she walked right with me. She has some great manners, she just needs a forever home and love, and of course, training, which is the key to keeping our dogs mentally stimulated and social. Update: Belle is the "PERFECT" foster girl. This is one great girl, she is totally housebroken and I am finding out she knows many commands. She is getting along very well with my 11 year old Beagle. She is not a barker, but will alert you to a strange noise. She is very low key. She enjoys walks then comes back and lays down quietly with a chew toy. She likes to sniff and check everything out during her walks. We passed a neighbor with two very small children. I made her sit then told her down and she went right into a down for the children and parent to pet her, she didn’t move. She has not disturbed anything at all in my condo, she goes easily into her crate and she does not need to be crated at night. She settles down and is wonderful. She is a very sweet girl and just wants lots of love and pats. She will need to continue training as this will keep her up to date and help her bond with her new family. She let me lead her into the bathtub for a spa bath, clean her ears and you can touch her all over. She is laying at my feet enjoying the country music of Keith Urban….oops, I think I disturbed her concert. She is a very sweet girl and just wants lots of love and pats. Oh, and she has really slimmed down. Ask to see Belle today. Update: Single-Tan-Female looking for a nice man (and/or woman) to relax with. Loves strolls in the park, cuddling on a warm blanket, hugs, kisses, and belly rubs! adopted 11/1/09 Sex: Male DESCRIPTION: Sting was turned into the shelter because his owner died.
Sting is very, very thin and very timid. He seems to have led a very hard life...and it shows. Poor boy needs some meat on
his bones and a nice place to rest them. He will need patience and love and someone to show him the bright side of life again.
Sting needs to have his confidence and trust in people restored. Although a little timid at first, after he gets to know you
and warm up to you, he is your best friend. This is a very nice dog -- and should be a wonderful pet and companion eventually.....
with just a bit of effort on someone's part. If you can be that bright and shining light in this dog's life, please come and meet
him. Update: Sting has been with me for only a few days, but in those few days, I have discovered that he is a super
sweet boy. He is cautious at first when meeting people he doesn't know...though this is to be expected since he was starved and mis-treated
his whole life by peoople. However, once he gets to know you, he is your best friend and tries really hard to please you. We're working on
this and trying to get him out to meet as many people as he can. Since he came to us as a blank slate, we're working on those important
doggy manners that he needs to learn :). He is a quick learner and an impressive problem solver and would excel in training with his people.
Sting appears to be good with most other dogs (he was around 100+ dogs this past weekend and didn't have any major problems). his new digs. He is a very big boy who has had very little socialization, discipline and no training. Tango will make a great dog for the
right people and the right home. Tango needs a handler that is very experienced with the German Shepherd breed; and a family that will
commit to a training program with him. Tango responds very well to a confident and knowledgeable handler and shows us that he has the
intelligence of his breed and will do well with regular training and structure. Right now we are getting to know him better. He is
presently working on his social and training skills with a very experienced handler and we will update his progress as time goes on. Update: Tango is quite the intelligent boy. And while I would say his "drive" and energy is medium, he will still require someone knowledgeable with German Shepherds and the intelligence they possess. Upon first meeting him, he seems a little standofffish and uninterested. But once he knows that you are a capable handler, he quickly bonds and becomes quite affectionate. As with all adoptions, training is not just a requirement per our contract but is essential for a proper foundation from which to build a good relationship with your dog. Tango has never benefitted from a structured training program with someone. With that being said, his person will need to be clear AND consistent in their demands of him so that he can understand what is required and allowed or not allowed. He will not do well in a chaotic household, at least not right off the bat. If there are a lot of visitors coming and going, this will be stressful to him until he understands that change is a nomal thing. Dogs are creatures of habit and he epitomizes this. Up til now, his life has been in constant flux. His ideal person will start a training program soon after taking him home so that can gain the stability in his life that he needs. If you are stoic, even keeled and confident, you could be just what Tango needs. Update Tango is a great dog! He walks well on a leash and gets along fine with most other dogs! he is loving and affectionate..........he wants to please his people and will do well at obedience or any other kind of training! Please remember to give your dogs heartworm preventative. It is a simple monthly pill that can prevent so much heartbreak. Run free Henry! We miss you! DESCRIPTION: Hey there! Henry here! Yup! Good ole Henry! I finally made it to my foster
home! Man, am I in sad shape! Can you tell? I know I don't look too pretty, but they say I have something called "heartworms", too.
Don't really know what those kinda worms are, but I do know that I am very, very skinny, have a hard time chasing rabbits....Hey, you
know you're sick when the bunnies stop, turn around and take a breath and laugh at you! :( I have been told that I can't chase even my
own tail for a while - so's I can get better quicker....which is fine. I much prefer to snooze now that I know I will be taken care of
and safe. I have had a hard life - best it is forgotten now. I am ready to move on. Lots of nice, kind folks had a big hand in my
rescue and I would like to thank them all. I promise to do my best to be a good dog - a good patient for my foster mom and not give her
or the furry friends here at my wonderful foster home any trouble at all. As a matter of fact, they are a good looking bunch, and I am
sure that I will be able to play in a short time. I have to gain some weight, (mom has the yummiest food!) :) I have to be kept kinda
quiet -- like that is a problem...I like to snooze.....:) And I can't get too excited....So when you visit me, please don't tell me jokes
and make me do tricks, hear! :) Hope to meet you real soon! Love, Henry Henry is not quite ready to meet the public just yet. He is extremely emaciated and weak and his condition is fragile. He has tested
as a high, high positive for heartworms, but we are confident that he will pull through in no time at all. Henry is one of the nicest,
sweetest and most gentle dogs you will ever meet. If you would like to help MAGSR pay for the heartworm treatment for Henry and for our
other Heartworm positive dogs, we would surely appreciate it! Please use the paypal link for medical donations on our home page. We
promise Henry and his friends will be able to personally thank you in no time at all. Update: Hi All, Henry here, just wanted to update you on how I am doing. I am resting in a quiet country setting with my very own room and a big window. I have been a sweet and excellent patient. I had a bath this past weekend and changed from a dirt caked gray dog to a yellow/white dog. My foster mom say she just knows that there is a beautiful white boy still hiding under all the layers of grime and it will just take a couple more baths to find him...oh joy! Update: Good 'old Henry checking in. Great news, I went to my vet for a weigh in and guess what...I have gained 8 pounds and now up to a whopping 54 pounds. Now I know I have lots to go but just those tiny eight pounds have made me feel so much better. I stopped at PetSmart in Westminster after my vet visit and met several other MAGSR dog, kissed a couple of kids and smiled and wagged my tail in greeting to all of them. I was only a special guest appearance, I couldn't stay too long as I am still supposed to be kept quiet and calm. Wish me luck on my upcoming recheck of my blood as if my levels are closer to the normal level which I am sure they will be, I will be able to start my heartworm treatments within 2-3 weeks. adopted 10/17/09! He apparently had not stopped for many
meals on his worldly travels and is literally a rack of very good looking Shepherd bones! :) He seems to walk pretty well on the leash, but it is apparent
that he has not had much in the way of training. At this time, we do not know that much about this travelin' man, but we do know that Gulliver is very
handsome and has a pretty even disposition. He is pretty calm and laid back and seems to take things in his stride. Gulliver is now through with the
wandering life and is ready to settle down with the right family. Right now he is recuperating from his travels, resting up and getting checked out at
the vet's office. He would love to have a foster home. Yes, some good food, a nice bed, that would be awesome! ;) Update: Gulliver decided to put down his bags and stay with us for a while. He's turned out to be a true gentle giant. He gets along VERY well with our GSDs. Though he towers over all of them, he's not pushy or demanding. He has not shown any tendency to be dominant or submissive. He appears to be fairly neutral and when he is in the best of mindsets, he may even try to instigate play with another dog. But this is very seldom. I don't see Gully as being very playful with another dog, at least not right now. He's just happy being part of a pack, being with you and where you are. He's obviously had a tough life prior to coming to us. because of that, Gully will bond very deeply with his people as he has bonded with us very quickly and that bond is evident when you walk him. He doesn't want to be more than a couple feet away from us. Some of this may also be due to a slight lack in confidence. But training will help him overcome any lack of confidence that he may have. To date, he has not had any accidents in the house. He sleeps very sound throughout the night with the rest of the pack and does not need to be crated at bedtime. But he does get crated during the day. He doesn't love the crate but he tolerates it well. Right now, we're working on putting some weight on him as he is extremely thin and he's a champion eater!
This very tall boy showed a little too much interest in cats while at the vet. It may be safe to assume that he exhibits some prey drive around small animals. Gully exhibits medium energy. He's not going to run a marathon with you or be an agility champ. He isn't a couch potato. But he will let you eat dinner, watch TV, work on household chores, etc without getting into mischief all the time. But what he will excel at and will enjoy is taking nice, long walks with his people. He rides extremely well in the vehicle and does well in new environments when he can rely on you to keep him safe. Gulliver would do best in a household that isn't overly chaotic. His people will need to understand that he needs stability and consistency. As of this moment, he's fairly dependent on us for safety and security. But with some consistency and training, he will quickly become more confident and will be a bit more independent. He would benefit from being in a household with a friendly, stable, medium energy dog that he could learn from. Sex: Male Good With Kids: Unknown DESCRIPTION: This friendly and debonair fellow is Hawke. Hawke is young, handsome, and ready (almost) to take on the world! Well, he has to have a few things accomplished under his collar first. :) Hawke has not had the easiest life. Hawke was a "tied" dog. He belonged to a family that had him tied in the back yard and so has very little in the way of social graces or manners. (Read none, zilch, nada, zero.) But, he is sweet and friendly and goofy and loving. He has so much to learn and he is so eager to please, you cannot help but smile at him. He will need EVERYTHING -- First of all a bath! :) Then, love from his people, patience to put up with a dog that needs to learn his boundaries, he will need training - for the structure and discipline that it gives, consistency from his people and what will result will be a fantastic dog and lifelong companion. Hawke is residing in a wonderful foster home now and his foster mom will update from time to time with news and new pictures. Unfortunately, Hawke has also tested positive for heartworm and joins his other friends in rescue: Caleb, Henry, Cindy, Thor, Everett and Elliott for a total of 7 dogs in the rescue now who are heartworm positive!! Please help us to help these beautiful dogs who are afflicted with heartworm through no fault of their own. MAGSR is under a financial strain now because of the medical expenses we now have for this crew. We have always taken the very best care of our dogs, and with your help we can continue to do so. Won't you please contribute to our Medical Fund and help us to help Hawke and his friends? Update: Hawke joins a foster home complete with two other German Shepherds and a few cats.
He is a pretty easy going BIG boy, weighing in at 77 lbs. Hawke likes his crate and goes into
it with no problem. His introduction to a cat was pretty comical considering how big he is.
While sniffing at the cat, the cat turned and began hissing. Hawke was fast on his feet and jumped
away. He quickly moved on to explore other areas of the house. Even though Hawke is heartworm
positive, he is a very strong young dog, both physically and mentally. Because of this, Hawke should
go into a home where strong leadership exists AND consistent training will take place. He is not a couch
potato! He is probably good with children but because he is lacking in manners, precaution should be taken. Visit Adopted36 for adoptions from Jul-Sep 2009, or use the drop-down box at the top of the page.
