Description: Eli is a sweet
boy who was out of time at the local shelter. He gets along
very well with people and other dogs. He rode up from the
shelter today with Annabelle and Lydia. The three youngsters
are really sweet, Annabelle is the most laid back and quite
pretty, she just curled up on the front seat and stayed there w/an
occasional stretch and kiss on my hand. Eli was in the back
seat and at times was fairly vocal but stayed in his seat and on
occasion would attempt to get Lydia to pay attention to him but
was usually ignored. :) Lydia, "Crazy Lydia", acts like she
is the happiest, luckiest dog around, she is really hyper at first
but not in a way that agitates, her energy level just kind of
transcends itself into a very joyful being that causes feelings of
love for her. They all rode extremely well, no sickness, no
"accidents".
Update 12/10: Eli, pronounced E-Lie
(not ellie!), is a wonderful little guy! He played with the
other dogs in the field today and did well. He would "try"
to dominate some of the smaller guys (he's not big himself mind
you!) but he does not commit himself to it. Whenever he
started I would just grab a part of him (whatever I could reach)
and he would turn around as if to say, "oh, hey what are you doing
- you want to pet me...ok!"..and he'd forget he was trying to
stand over the other dog. It was pretty funny actually.
Eli is a great little dog who asks very nicely to be loved on.
He is obviously craving a home of his own with people to love on
him all the time. He would do well in just about any home I
think. I have not seen him with cats but I would bet he'd be
just fine. He's too soft spoken not to be!

Description: Clancey is a
victim of the holiday season...he is one of the MANY being turned
in to the shelters because their "family" feels they are too much
trouble. Clancey is a very sweet, friendly boy who rode very
well with Sara to the vet's today. We will update you once
we learn more. He's a beautiful boy who is looking for the
best of all holiday presents - a new home!
Update 12/10: Clancey was
upset by being moved from the vet to the kennel today with all the
dogs and barking and craziness. He is VERY sweet however and
once he warms up to you, he takes a little time to trust you, he
will lean into you for petting and hugs. He is an incredibly
beautiful boy who still has some growing to do but also is very
underweight right now. He loved playing with my female GSD
and Fred and Lydia today being a rather large puppy himself.
I think Clancey would do best in a home with another dog but if
you don't have one then you enjoy regular trips to the dog parks
for sure! This boy will excel at obedience and once he
becomes comfortable and has some solid obedience behind him he'll
be a fantastic dog!

Description: Bear is a sweet,
sweet boy who has done nothing wrong except take time from his
owners that they did not want to give him. He is used to
being inside a home and was taken care of but surrendered because
they said they "did not have time for him" - an excuse we hear all
too often. Bear came to his temp foster home and had a great
time playing with the 10 other dogs in the home and the cat!
He has very good house manners and is housebroken but at 5 months
he should not be expected to wait for very long hours. He
has the softest fur a dog can have and the cutest little fuzzy
ears! Bear LOVES to cuddle and will even give you "bear
hugs" if you let him! :) He would really love to find his
new FOREVER home for the holidays!
We'll update you soon.
Update 11/26: Bear came to
stay with us yesterday and has proven to be an exceptionally
well-mannered little puppy. I was skeptical about him being
housebroken, considering that he is only 5 months old. But lo and
behold, he sits by the front door when he needs to go outside and
does his business right away. He slept through the night but could
not hold it the entire night so he had a little accident on the
blanket we laid out for him. Other than that, he has been accident
free. He is a little trooper trying to keep up with our big dogs
when we take them for a walk. Bear runs back and forth, probably
running double the distance our dogs are. By the time we come home
from a walk, he is exhausted but is determined not to let us out
of his sight. He follows us around everywhere just to keep an eye
on things. He is not a clingy boy; he simply wants to be around
people and if he gets a belly rub or a treat in the process, even
better. When we sit down, he gets in a quick nap but is ready to
move as soon as we are moving. He does well in his crate; although
he does not like to be separated from us, he settles down quickly
after a few minutes of barking and whining. We took him over to
our neighbors’ house last night and Bear was the perfect little
gentleman. He soaked up all of the attention, tried a bit of cat
food (our neighbors have two cats), and entertained himself with
one of the cat toys laying around, a pink poodle. It was the
funniest thing seeing Bear tossing around the tiny pink poodle and
chasing after it. He did very well with the cats to the point that
Smokey (one of the cats) let him sniff her paws. Bear knows his
name and comes running as soon as you call him. He has also
learned to sit for his treats. He is a total cuddle bug; nothing
makes him happier than snuggling up in your arms and getting a
belly rub. Even though he is a bit too big to sit on your lap, he
will try his best to make himself fit. Spending time with Bear is
such a heartwarming and rewarding experience; and when you see his
fuzz head poking around the corner, it is hard to imagine how
someone could have given him up. As far as I am concerned, this is
the perfect little puppy and deserves a special family to call his
own.
Update 12/05: Little Bear
experienced his first snow today. It is hard to believe that this
little guy can be any more energetic than he already is but snow
seems to have that effect on him. He was plowing through the snow
with his little nose and was trying to catch up with the big dogs.
It was fun to watch him go. Bear is coming out of his shell, much
to our dogs’ dismay. He is still the easygoing and affectionate
boy with my husband and me, but he is full of mischief when it
comes to our dogs. It seems like he gauged them for the first few
days to figure out what he can get away with. Now he knows he can
hang off Argos’ neck (our 80lb GSD) and romp around with Rolf
until Rolf is ready to drop. We used to cheer on little Bear to
encourage him to play with our dogs. Now we cheer on our dogs to
not let Bear get the better of them. I call it poetic justice that
our two high-energy dogs have to contend with an even more
energetic puppy like Bear. Bear is especially fond of mimicking
Argos. Argos is a very vocal boy who can make a lot of different
noises. Just last night, Argos was making one of his moaning
noises (it sounds like an elk in heat ;-) After a few minutes of
this, Bear chimed in making a similar moaning noise. It was
incredibly entertaining listening to their “conversation.” Bear
went to the vet last week to get his shots; needless to say, he
was a big hit with all of the vet techs and the vet all of whom
could not get enough of petting his soft fuzzy ears. He got a
clean bill of health and took all of the shots with no complaints
whatsoever. Bear is in the process of losing his baby teeth and I
even managed to save one as a lucky charm for the family who will
ultimately provide him with his well-deserved forever home.

Description: Annabelle was out
of time at the shelter so came to find her home with MAGSR.
She is a shy girl with a quieter personality then some others.
Annabelle is just a baby too so would really do better in a foster
home if you can open your home to her. She's a sweet girl
who is affectionate and longing for her own family. The three youngsters are really
sweet, Annabelle is the most laid back and quite pretty, she just
curled up on the front seat and stayed there w/an occasional
stretch and kiss on my hand. Eli was in the back seat and at

Update 12/04: Annabelle is a
pretty little girl. She is very dainty, friendly and has adapted
well to a household with many fur friends! She gets along well
with the resident GSD and cocker spaniel. The kitties are hiding;
but although she has barked, she did back down when she was told,
"Kitties are friends"! ;-) The kitties aren't buying this yet, but
they will come around. Annabelle has only had one little accident
in the house and she walks very well on the leash. She likes toys
and she loves to give kisses. Sex:

Description: Myra has really opened up now and eagerly greats
anyone - canine or human - who will agree to meet her. She
is more independent than the others too, taking the lead role now
that Ellie is in foster I believe. Myra would love a home
with other dogs or kids to play with her. Like her sisters,
she will stay very small so will fit into about any home! If
you are looking for a more confident, out-going, smaller girl than
ask to meet Myra - she will not disappoint!
Update 11/06: The three
sisters are absolutely adorable! They really enjoyed being out of
the kennel today. It's actually not the difficult walking all
three at the same time! They're very affectionate and just loved
the attention. They had a great time chasing each other around in
the field. Even though they're tiny, they sure could run fast!
Update 11/14: The three
sisters were a big hit at the Petsmart in White Marsh today! Myra
and Kendra were meeting and greeting everybody. They were active,
friendly and they enjoyed all the attention. Kendra was in and out
of another volunteer's lap, and Myra was such a social butterfly!
Trinity wasn't too be outdone, though. She's much too subtle for
that! She waited patiently until someone noticed her, then she
turned on her charm! She gave kisses left and right. When she got
tired, she climbed into my lap, curled up and took a nap!

Description: Miranda was a kennel dog that was
used as a breeder...now she's just aiming to be your best friend
and to be doted on the rest of her life! Miranda was never
given much love in her life until recently. She was surrendered by
a small dog rescue who had no luck finding her a home so they started
asking for help from GSD rescues - enter MAGSR. They had kept Miranda in a foster home for a few
weeks and that taught this lovely girl that life can be VERY good
for a dog - she misses being in a home. Miranda was really
shy and very skittish when she first met Joey (who picked her up). At the kennel she warmed up to him for awhile but
was obviously confused and scared of the kennel and just seemed
like she was trying to run away from it all. He had trouble
getting her into the run because she desperately wanted to stay
out of the kennel run - likely reminded her too much of her days
as a breeder dog. Not that any dog really is but, Miranda is
really not happy in the kennel. Miranda is fine with dogs,
cats, and loves kids. She's about 5 or 6 and a beautiful, gentle dog. She
just needs lots of TLC to bring her back around and to teach her
that from this point forward - her life will be wonderful and
filled with love!
Update 11/08: Miranda is a
good girl. She seemed more afraid on leash than out in the field.
She liked to walk the perimeter of the field, but if you called
her name, and got down on one knee she would come running for some
petting and if you let her she would attempt to get in your lap. A
few times I think she forgot to be afraid and even attempted to
play with the other dogs, she would run around over emphasizing
her gate by kicking her front feet up in the air, rather goofy
looking. Then I think she would realize people were watching and
she would go back to her patrol duties. She is very tolerant of
the other dogs running around in the field being complete goofs
and while she is very nervous, she looks to people for comfort.
Update 11/20: Lady Miranda has
been with me for over a week now. So far I’ve learned that she is
a very sweet and a very scared little girl. She is completely
crate trained, in fact, I have to force her to come out of her
crate. She views the crate as her safe place and is afraid to come
out. However, we are making progress. She now knows that she gets
yummy treats when she comes out of her crate. She does very well
with my other dogs and is scared of the cat - so no problems
there. Today she discovered the joys of the couch and happily
snuggled down next to me on it! She has no leash manners but
is very willing to learn. Yesterday she learned how to sit!
She also has discovered peanut butter bones and likes those very
much. Her teeth were a little yucky, but with the help of Denta
Bones, which she quite happily chomps on, they are getting better.
Over all, she is a very sweet and loving little girl who has had a
hard life so far. I know there is someone out there who
would love to help Miranda discover the joys that life can bring.

6/3/05:
Update 7/20: OK, you guys...this
is just plain silly! Avalon is such a loving,
laidback, wonderful young dog. There is absolutely NO
reason this boy should still be in the rescue. He's a
wonderful dog, who loves being loved, loves giving love, is
housebroken, beautiful, and already grasping his basic
commands. What more do you want? He's a devoted,
loyal, caring, affectionate young boy. He's going to
be a fantastic dog to whatever new family is lucky enough to
ask to meet him! Oh, he's also GREAT with other dogs,
cats, and kids!!
Update 8/03: Avalon is having a blast
with the kids (and Meeko too). They also think his name
should be Scooby! :) The kids have taught him to go down
their slide. He is willing to do it all on his own.
Avalon and Meeko will be running around chasing each other
then all of a sudden you see Avalon sliding down the slide
to catch up with Meeko. Each morning after he goes out
he runs up the stairs to wake the kids. He licks and runs
through each room. If he sees movement then he jumps up on
the bed to say good morning. If that still doesn’t
work he walks out with one of their toys (that gets the kids
out of bed every time). After he is hot and tired he
lays over the AC vent to cool off. He is very smart.
I can't understand why Avalon has not been scooped up by a
family yet - he's simply wonderful!! Sex:

Description: Trinity is by
far the shiest of the girls. She is very insecure around
people still, preferring to crawl into your lap if you will her
rather than run around and play with the others. You can see
exactly what I mean in her pictures. She is a wonderful,
kindhearted little girl who just needs some reassurance and love
to get her to where she is more confident and outgoing. I
suspect that she will always be shy - but once she warms up to you
she wants to be with you all the time! Because the girls are
so tiny, they are easy to pick up and hold or carry around which
we do with Trinity quite a bit! :) She's an adorable little
girl who needs someone to show her what the good life is all
about!
Update 11/06: The three

Description: Fiona, also
called Snow White by the shelter she came from, was found by the
shelter manager's husband all tangled up in barbed wire. She
was so wound up that they had to cut the barbed wire to get her
loose. There appears to be no real injuries form it but she
has not yet been seen by a vet - that happens on Monday!
Fiona is said to be a very sweet girl who is laid back and
all-around easy going. We believe she has known the life of
being part of a family and for whatever reason they got rid of
her, likely in not a nice way, which has made Fiona a very sad
girl. She is one of our more "seasoned"
girls at about 8 yrs of age but another unique quality of Fiona is
that we believe she is may also deaf. We will be asking the
vet to thoroughly check this as well. Fiona may already be
spayed which means that someone at some point cared about her.
She is very underweight right now but once she gets some healthy
nutrition she will fill out to be a beautiful girl! Fiona is
going into foster so we will update you soon and get some better
pictures as well!
Update 11/01: Fiona is one
sweet girl. She asks for nothing but gives every bit of her heart
right back to you. She was so confused and scared when she came
into the house, but now that she knows she's always going to be
safe and warm she's quite content. The vet estimates that most of
her hearing is gone, although she does still have some. Otherwise
she is in pretty good shape although healing a bit from her long
stay in the shelter. She could use some weight put on here, and
for her skin to heal up from some of her barbed wire wounds. It
appears that at some point, someone did love this girl and take
good care of her. It's so easy to see why as she steals your
heart with just one look.
Fill out adoption application, mark
it "I want Fiona," and you'll never look back.

Description: Meet the charming
Mr. Chase. He is 11 yrs young. Sadly, Chase is blind but he
gets along great nonetheless. The couple who had him got him from
the Frederick Co. Animal Shelter 8 yrs ago. They then moved into
an apt. complex that does not allow pets over 25# so they got rid
of Chase. How people do this to dogs after so long and in this
condition is absolutely mind-boggling to us in MAGSR. We hope
their nights are as sleepless as Chase's were in the shelter! So
he found his way to a close friend of MAGSR's and then, thanks to
wonderful people who fell in love with Chase on our shelter page,
is now with MASGR as their foster boy. I know is age will make him
difficult to adopt but if you have room in your heart to take in a
loving boy for the last few years of his life - you will not
regret it. Chase also has a section bit out of his tongue (you can
see it in one of the pictures) and his ear. They told us that
another dog attacked him this past spring - nice to know his
owners were also so attentive to protecting Chase from mean dogs
too!
Update 11/08: Chase is
AMAZING. He is the sweetest, most affectionate dog. He is even
lower maintenance than my 5 year old GSD. He is always in good
spirits. His tail wags morning, noon and night. The scars he has
from a previous dog attack do nothing to dampen his spirits. At
first I was worried his poor vision would make it difficult to
live in a 3 story home, with two other rambunctious GSDs, however,
there was nothing to worry about. He runs up and down the stairs
easily, and even bats a paw or two in play with his foster brother
and sister. It appears that he can actually see things, although
he sees better close-up than far away. However, it does not hamper
his mobility; he always forges ahead with excitement! I am
surprised that he is 11 years old, because he acts much younger.
He's always very excited to go on walks. Today, I took him and his
foster siblings to a big fenced in softball field, where they ran
around joyously. He is a smart cookie, and adapts to his
surroundings quickly. I can't imagine why or how his family could
give him up. This genuinely sweet boy will make a WONDERFUL
companion, and
Update 11/17: Chase has been
to see one of our vets. She gave us some medication for
Chase's eyes and asked to see him in two weeks again. She is
optimistic that Chase's eyesight will at the very least improve so
that he will be able to see at least some. In the two days
he's been on the meds he is already doing better. His eyes
are less glossy and swollen then they were before and not running
like they used to AND Chase seems to be following things now that
he wasn't before. We will know more when he goes back to the
vets but we cautiously optimistic that he will have some sight
very soon! It doesn't matter though - he's a fantastic dog
just as he is!

Description: Rhett was found
as a stray in Baltimore by animal control. He seems to have
been on the street for awhile given his physical condition,
nothing seriously wrong with him, but just kind of beaten up.
He is a very friendly boy from what we can tell but don't yet know
much about him. We will update you soon!
Update 9/17: Rhett has had a
very rough life up to this point. By the looks of the scars
on his elbows, we believe that Rhett was kept outside on concrete
his entire life. It's really the worst scarring I've seen on
a dog. Rhett's ear is starting to heal and the infection
from whatever dog bit him (before he came to us) has been taken
care of by the vets. Rhett still needs some recovering but
he's on his way. This boy is a real lover! He barks at
dogs when he can see them and not get to them but once we go up to
them, he just wants to hang out and play a little if the other dog
is willing. He was in the small field for a little today
with Sheena and Willow and was wonderful.
He was so happy to be around people and the other dogs today.
You could just tell he thought that was the best it's ever gotten
for him! He's such an outgoing, happy, affectionate boy I
cannot imagine he is not the same with kids. Because of his
ear it may be best not to have him around very small children who
may pull on his sore ear but he would be great with them otherwise
I am sure. He needs some good old fashioned TLC and a good
5-10 lbs of weight before he'll be healthy bus his heart is full
of love. Rhett is a very good dog who's new family will be
lucky to have him!
Update 9/25: All of the above
things that have been said about Rhett are absolutely true. Rhett
went on a "field trip" today along with Willow to Dog's Day in the
Park at Oregon Ridge. He was so excited to go for a ride and was a
perfect gentleman on the trip, just relaxed and enjoyed the
scenery. When we got there he took one look around at all the
other dogs and people and just beamed! He happily met big and
small ....dogs and people alike with a big smile and was excellent
with all..... even a couple of Katrina kitties. He sniffed them
gentle as if to say...I've had a tough life too....so don't be
afraid. He now has a friend in Willow who bonded with him
immediately and she kept sneaking up and giving him kisses ...she
knows a handsome guy when she sees one. The booth next to MASGR's
was Baltimore City Animal Shelter's where Rhett was picked up as a
stray. The ladies were thrilled to see him as they said he had
been a wonderful boy for them also and they were so glad he was
with us as they knew he would get a great home with us...could
that great home be yours?
Kids...kids...where are the kids!
I just love those little people and want some as my own friends!
They make me so happy all I can do is wiggle when I see them!
Do you have any? Can I come live with them at your house and
be their new friend!
Update 10/14: Rhett has been
living with me and two GSD's for 4 days now and has settled in
wonderfully. He may have recently been on the streets but his
behaviors is such that I know at some point he was someone's
beloved pet. He is completely housebroken (first foster to come
here that has had NO accidents at all) and he has free rein of the
house. He doesn't chew or jump on people. He loves playing with
toys (and he seems quite amazed that he has toys to play with)!
sleeps on the dog beds (not the couch) and absolutely LOVES to
play ball! He doesn't know obedience terms yet but he has
excellent house manners, a gentle mouth when taking treats and
walks wonderfully on a leash. He "alerts" to squirrels but a
simple tug on the leash and he keeps walking! To test him I
have pulled on his damaged ear and he has had NO reaction at all.
He LOVES to be petted and stroked and tears form in my eyes at the
look of bliss in those deep brown eyes at receiving affection.
His skinny body is beginning to fill out from regular meals as he
reverts to the handsome boy he was before he fell into hard times.
He is GREAT with other dogs, very friendly and outgoing.
Even after being rebuffed repeatedly by the two sometimes churlish
ones who live here, he approaches them with wags and licks!
He's just so happy to have friends around! I feed him in a
crate and leave him in one when I go out (but solely to protect
him from the two resident GSD's.) He barks for about 20 seconds
and then settles down quietly. He sleeps on a dog bed in our
room at night. He is a wonderful, wonderful dog! Sex:

Description: Sunshine was
taken to the shelter by her owners who decided they did not want
her anymore. We've promised her that will never happen to
her again! Sunshine has got lots of spirit and is a pretty
high drive girl. She showed so much promise that she was
chosen by a county police office to be a canine dog for them but
then, the shelter got a 10 month old GSD in that they decided
they'd rather have since he was a male. Sunshine will do
well in a home who loves GSDs for what the breed was meant to be!
She rides extremely well in a car - you almost forget she's in the
car with you! She's a wonderful girl looking for a real
chance to be happy and spoiled forever...she promises to love,
honor, protect, and cherish you as well!
Update 11/06: Sunshine is such
a sweetheart. She loves to get attention and wants to meet
anyone walking in her general direction. I found out
yesterday that she is crate trained and actually is one of those
dogs who would enjoy having her own crate just for her own
'personal' time to hang out in. Sunshine does need to learn
some good-dog manners when it comes to meeting and greeting other
dogs. She can be rather obnoxious at first, but with some
firm corrections she will calm down and say hello politely.
This behavior just strikes me as her not having had any direction
before so this is her way of getting attention from other dogs.
When meeting people however, she is much quieter about her
requests for attention. She leans into you for petting and
snuggles into your lap if you are sitting down with her.
Sunshine really is a wonderful, loving girl who once she gets some
positive training (which she'll excel at easily) will make a
fabulous new family pet! She's beautiful, happy, confident,
energetic, and eager to please. You can't help but be drawn
to Sunshine!
Update 11/15: Sunshine had to
go to the vet's today for a check up and she rode in the car with
Diane. Both girls did very well, not so much as a peep out
of either one of them. Sunshine really is a sweet, lovely
girl who would do great in just about any home. She does
seem to prefer male dogs over females but with the right handler
can do well with either. Sunshine is a stunning dog, both in
looks and personality! Sex:

Description: These three
puppies are examples of why MAGSR advocates for spaying and
neutering pets! They were born in a dilapidated trailer park
in WV and at 4 weeks were being "handed out" to whoever wanted
them. Raven, Corina, and Brandy are the three left who were
surrendered to a friend of MAGSRs. These three cuties are
now 6 wks old only so will not be able to go to their new homes
until the weekend of the 22nd; they can be met and adopted prior
to that time of course. They will spend the next 2 weeks
learning how to be well-socialized dogs prior to meeting their
forever family. They are typical puppies who require love,
patience, training, discipline, and a good 12-15 year commitment!
We will update you soon but don't wait for that - ask to meet them
now!
Update 10/22: Hi, this is
Raven. I am the most beautiful little
girl with my pretty purple collar and my brown and blue eyes. I am
friendly and I love to be held. We've been here a week and we're
getting bigger. Aunt Patty keeps telling us we need to learn to go
potty outside even if it is raining. Isn't she silly? Why
should we go outside when it is warm and dry in the kitchen!?
People are so strange.
Update 11/15: Why are we still
here? We want our homes! Brandy had a little tummy trouble last
week but she's all better now. Raven had a milder flu and didn't
seem sick at all. Both are back to normal now and love to spend
their time playing in the puppy pen. One of their favorite games
is untying Aunt Patty's shoe laces. We haven't figured out how to
tie them together but we are working on it. Sex:

Potential/Ideal Size:

DESCRIPTION:
They are all sick little babies who need lots of tender loving care.
There were 3 of their siblings that did not make it because they
were so sick. Little Saber is the sickest of the four so
please keep him in your thoughts and prayers while we try to make
him better. These little guys are very sweet and of course as
cute as little puppies can be. They come with a required
lifetime commitment which can be 12-15 years if you are lucky!
We will update you soon! Update 10/31: Yasmin and Phoebe are still fighting the long fight, Dr. Berliner
said both still have very, very, soft stool but better than it has
been, they both vomited again today which is not good, they are not
interested in eating yet, they have a vaporizer set up in their
"isolation" room which seems to be working well since Dr. B said
they were coughing more today which means they are trying to get rid
of their congestion and that is good. Dr.B said they both were
sitting up in their cages for awhile today which sounds encouraging
, when I was there they appeared alert but were just laying there
looking @ me with those beautiful soft brown eyes , had IV's in, and
soft cone-type collars on to keep them from biting their Update 11/15:
Hi, this is FeBe. I guess some people insist on spelling my name
Phoebe. Anway, Jazz and I wanted to check in and let you know how we
are doing. We were pretty sick for a while and we're really starting
to feel good now. We had to be kept away from the other dogs for a
week and now we get to go outside and run and play! That sure is
fun!!!! We're getting bigger every day - I am slim 13.5 pounds and
Jazz is a plump 15 pounds. We call her Tubby since she likes to
sleep in the bathtub! Sex:

Breed: GSD/Lab mix
Potential/Ideal Size: 65 lbs
History: Owner surrender to rescue
Description: Thelma and Louise
were so named because
these pretty ladies have been picked up by the local animal shelter
four different times. This
final time, the lady who owned them said she had had enough of them escaping
the back yard and told the girls at the shelter to keep them.
Given that they are so incredibly sweet, on top of this
adventurous spirit, I
figured Thelma and
Louise seemed like proper names. And the fact that what is going on in
their lives is not their fault but caused by others! The bottom
line in that their owner was not responsible and never spent any
time with these girls so they went looking for someone who would
love them like they deserve. Louise is 1 1/2 yrs old, and is a
predominantly GSD mix. She is very
quiet, and a good natured girl. She and Thelma both need to gain
about 15lbs. They are both very underweight. The previous
owner was asked if Louise had any bad habits and she said "she howls when
the fire truck goes by". Go figure! I only wish that were
the least my dogs' bad habits! :) She originally adopted
her from Petsmart. This girl is very, very sweet and just likes
to hang out and get attention. If you are looking for a
cuddle bug then I suspect Louise may be your girl! Update 9/17: Louise,
(Lou-Lou for short) had a bad leg when we picked her up today and
after x-rays we learned that her hip had been popped out of its
socket from hip displaysia and possible trauma to make it happen.
We will be looking into the extent of her hip displaysia and
likely doing surgery on Lou-Lou in the near future. Despite
the amazing pain she must have been in over the last couple weeks
that her leg has been like this (prior to coming to us) this young
girl has been nothing short of wonderful! She is so loving
of everything she meets - kids, dogs, adults! Her last temp
foster had two kittens in a kennel near to where she and Thelma
were and whenever Lou-Lou would be let out of the run she would
run over to the kittens and kiss their little paws as they stuck
them through the cage! This is one of the sweetest dogs you
could hope to meet. She is very close to Thelma, who seems
to have been trying to take care of Lou-Lou who was obviously in
pain, but would do well in any home that would give her the love
she craves and deserves! Lou-Lou really could use a foster
home to recover form her surgery in - please let us know if you
are interested in fostering her! Update 10/27: I picked up
Louise today from her surgery and she is at home resting. The
surgery went well, and she is strong and alert. She will have bed
rest for the next 2 weeks with physical therapy every day to
stretch her leg and increase mobility. She has a follow up
appointment with the surgeon in 2 weeks to evaluate her progress,
and if she heals well, and the therapy is successful, she will be
able to play and run and be free. The doctor said she had suffered
a major trauma causing the hip dislocation. Fortunately with this
surgery, the bones will no longer rub together causing pain. Her
leg will strengthen with exercise and time, and she will be free
from discomfort and pain. Sex:

Well lil Jazz is in her foster home tonight & Patty promised her
lots & lots & lots of love, as well as a bath and a toenail
clipping. You can choose your adjective for this young girl,
energetic, feisty, spunky, lovely, gorgeous, vocal, VERY VOCAL, very
confident, intelligent. Jazz learned to undo the latches on her cage
@ the vets, they had to wrap tape around the latch to keep her from
getting out on her own. She was so happy to leave the vets, and just
in case I didn't realize it she kept talking to me as if to say
"I've had enough of isolation, and I hope you bring my sisters home
soon". When she wasn't talking to me she was rooting around on the
floor, climbing up on the seat and trying to look out the window,
and when she "settled" down it was to chew on my seatbelt latch.
little Jazz is quite the girl, you just gotta love her. Update 11/07: "We're free! We're free!" Phoebe and Jazz are
celebrating their release from the vet. They are so happy to be out
of their cages and are literally bouncing off the walls! They are
active little pups and are definitely on the mend. Jazz is the vocal
member of the team but Phoebe (she prefers the spelling FeBe) holds
her own. These little girls will be ready to go home on 11/12 once
they have finished their medicines. Update 11/15:

Good With Kids: Teenager and up
Description: Hannah was an
owner surrender to a shelter in WV. She was a big favorite
of the shelter staff, thus they gave her more time until MAGSR
could help her! She is very, very sweet but gets nervous
around small children. As a result, we would rather that
Hannah not live with small kids, at least until she learns to
trust little people! :) Hannah does very well with other
dogs and likely cats as well but we can't say for sure yet on the
cats. Hannah will be with us finally this weekend
and we will not only get better pictures but will update you on her as
well!
Update 10/28: Hannah is a
happy, affectionate, beautiful girl. She needs training of course but
that's the easy part! She eagerly greets new people and has
the energy level you'd expect in a healthy young GSD! She
will do well in a home with a relatively active lifestyle that has
a family who will
be able to give this girl LOTS of attention, which she will
certainly repay tenfold!

Description: Wyatt was found
wandering along side a country road along with a poodle.
Obviously these two dogs did not just happen to end up in the same
place (a rural road) at the same time. it's obvious that
they were dropped off there by irresponsible, abusive people who
did not even have the decency to take them to the shelter.
Wyatt is your typical 6 month old GSD - high energy, short
attention span but eager to please and in need of training.
He's an affectionate little guy. He came in with Frazier.
We will update you soon...if he does not get adopted first!
Update 11/19: What a doll!
This young baby is SO sweet! He is a little on the pudgy
side but who isn't right!? He is extremely affectionate and
rather laid back for his age. He rode very well on the way
to us today just looking around and out the car windows. He
likes to cuddle and loves to give kisses. He also likes to
play with the dog that looks just like him the mirror - which is
who he is looking at in his pictures! He's a very sweet boy
who will do well in any home! Sex: Male Breed:

DESCRIPTION:
Hello again. I am Neeko and yes I am still here. I
don't understand why because I am such a friendly and loving dog.
No, I may not be the German Shepard you are looking for but I am
just as good. I am protective of my home, barking when someone
comes to the door, usually before they knock! My foster mom calls
me her door bell. My foster dad will sometimes get upset but I make
a good alarm to get him out of bed in the morning. I have been
very good on house training. Mom gets my signs very well, usually
jump in your lap or wait by the door. My dad is a little slow on
the uptake but he is learning. I love to go for walks. I have been
learning to walk better on a lead too. I have been crated and do
well. Right now I love to play with my foster sister and my foster
cat brothers. I enjoy kids and will play with them as long as I
can before they have to leave. I met a foster cousin the other day
that was a small dog, weighed in at 7 pounds. The little guy
thought he was a big dog and played with me all day. It was great
fun. As you can see I get on great with all sizes of dogs and even
cats. I would love to find a home that has kids but anywhere I can
get attention would be great. I know I will find my forever home
and maybe it will be yours. If you are looking for a great dog
that will give lots of love, be a great companion and will get
along with everyone and everything then I am the dog for you. Just
because I am not a German Shepard does not mean I am not just as
good. Please ask to see me, Neeko the honorary German Shepard! Update
9/20:
OK, I know you read this a lot on our site but I'm telling you
this boy is without a doubt the very sweetest dog you could ever
possibly meet! For the first time I had the honor of meeting
and spending time with Neeko Sunday and if my house was bigger I
would now have my 5th dog! All he is interested in doing is
being someone's best friend, cuddling, and giving kisses.
No, he is nothing GSD but don't let that stop you from asking to
meet this boy!
Update 10/18: What can I say
about Neeko? He is one of the sweetest dogs I’ve ever been around.
Definitely a heart of gold. He enjoys nothing more than being by
your side getting any form of affection you’re willing to give.
Not only does he look like a big old teddy bear he feels like one
too! And he loves to be hugged. Now don’t take this boy for some
sort of wall flower either. He’s all puppy! Loves to run and play.
But also is perfectly comfortable laying around the carpet with
his favorite bone.
Sex: Male
Breed: Rottie/GSD mix
Color: Blk & Tan
Potential/Ideal Size: 90+ lbs
Good With Kids: Yes
Description: As you can tell,
Apollo isn't exactly all GSD. What he is, is a mix of what appears
to be GSD and Rottie. With that combination, you will get a lot of
energy and character. He's a big, playful boy who loves people and
toys. His favorite toy seems to be a ball. He will need to work on
his manners while on a leash as it seems that he has not had a lot
of training yet. As of right now, he doesn't quite understand how to
conduct himself perfectly but being that he is a GSD and Rottie
mix, he'll pick it up in no time. However, he loves to "sit" and
"down" for treats. He's got those down pretty good. If you
are looking for a large, high-energy, intelligent, playful young
boy with a lot of personality, Apollo may be your man. We will
provide further updates as we learn more about him.
Update 10/17: Apollo is coming
along very nicely. He seems to like all people and all dogs he has
met so far. He's still a bundle of energy. He has the personality
and character of someone who loves life as he is very pleasant to
be around. His leash manners are getting much better.
It was only a short time before we saw a difference in this. He
still pulls some but with consistent work, he is showing major
signs of improvement. As always, he loves to sit and down for
treats and he takes them very gently. He seems to be a dog
who wasn't afforded the amount of time and training that every dog
requires, particularly working breeds like we deal with. Those
dogs improve quickly in the hands of a capable owner, handler or
trainer. Apollo really doesn't know how big he is. He's just
a big, loveable, happy boy! You can't meet him and not like
him! :)

Color: Blk & tan
Potential/Ideal Size: 65 lbs
Good With Kids: Yes
Description:
Sheena came into the shelter as a
stray just about to have puppies. She went into a
temporary shelter foster and was an excellent mom to all 7 babies!
She bonded very quickly and deeply to her foster mom - so much so
that foster mom almost adopted Sheena for herself!
Sheena is a wonderful girl. She is great on the leash and gets
along fine with other dogs as long as they are not very small dogs.
She has too high a prey drive for small dogs or cats to be safe
around her so she won't be adopted to homes with small animals.
She lived with two labs and two young kids and did great with all
family members. While in foster this smart girl learned
several commands including sit, down, shake, and speak! She
would love to learn more with her new family! This
is one special girl. She does not do well in the kennel
environment though so could really use a new home to call her own.
The last time Sheena was in the shelter she stopped eating and
lost lots of hair, including her beautiful tail which is only now
growing back like it should. Please consider fostering Sheena to save her the
stress of the kennel...if not Adopting her! :) Sheena is well behaved, loves
attention, gives lots of love in return, and will devote herself
to her family!
Update 9/18: Sheena is such a
wonderful girl. She really is a sweet, playful girl who misses
having a home to live in with people she loves. She had a
great time out in the field yesterday trying to make my female GSD
play (Zoey) with her as they all chased each other around the
field. When Zoey got mad at her and pushed back Sheena
backed down immediately, paused a second, then got back up to play
with everyone!
She's a happy, loving, friendly girl who you will really adore if
you get to know her. When we went to walk back into the
kennel Sheena was so upset it was almost like she started crying
like a child. She whined a little, laid down, rolled over on
her back and looked up at me whimpering - doing her absolute best
to tell me she really did not want to go back inside the kennel.
If you have room to foster please consider Sheena...if you are
looking for a new fur-friend you should consider this wonderful
young dog!
Update 10/14: Simply put:
Sheena is a fantastic dog. She has been with us for less than a
week and has already charmed her way into canine and human hearts
alike. Resident GSD Argos likes to boss around any foster dogs I
bring home and true to fashion, he puffed up and barked and
growled when he first saw Sheena. Sheena just stood there, wagging
her tail as she is being charged by an 80-pound GSD. Argos
screeched to a halt in front of her, started sniffing her and they
have been the best of friends ever since. Maybe Argos fell for her
fluffy ears the same way I did. This girl is all personality. When
I think of her antics, it brings a smile to my face. For example,
she clacks her teeth when she wants attention or when she
disagrees with you. When I made breakfast last Sunday, Sheena was
prowling around the kitchen to take in the bacon smell. I gave her
a dog biscuit instead which she promptly spit out since it was not
at all what she had in mind for a treat. As I was eating
breakfast, I caught her with her front paws on the cutting board,
ducking her head as low as possible as if that would prevent her
from being seen. I corrected her which prompted some teeth
clacking and a deep dramatic sigh as she lay down next to me. When
she does not want to go somewhere (i.e. her kennel or off the
bed), she rolls onto her back, curls her paws up and looks at you
pleadingly along the lines of “how can you do this to someone as
cute as me?” This girl is super smart and a prime candidate for
learning stupid pet tricks a la Dave Letterman. She is not yet
housebroken but certainly very close. On her first day with us,
she had a small accident in our bedroom; after I corrected her and
took her outside, she laid right outside the bedroom, with her
paws on the threshold without crossing it. She only came back into
the bedroom when I invited her in. There is no limit to what
Sheena can learn if you give her attention and time. I already
dread the hole she will leave in our lives whenever she finds her
forever home...just ask my co-workers who bring me to tears just
asking me about Sheena's inevitable adoption to some incredibly
lucky family!

Potential/Ideal Size: 40-45 lbs

History: Owner to Shelter
Description: Dreia (pronounced
"dray - ah"), is about as sad as a dog can be given her last few
weeks. Dreia was supposedly loved by her last family, but
they allowed her to wander around which led to her being hit by a
car which almost severed her leg, that the vet eventually
amputated from the injury, However, the owners would not or could
not pay the vet bills so surrender her to the animal shelter
instead. She still had the stitches from her surgery when
she was dropped off at the shelter. Dreia has stolen the
hearts of the shelter staff as well as the vet's office staff.
She is said to very extremely calm, very affectionate, loving, and
gentle. She has lost both her leg and her only home in
a matter of a few days - a very traumatic situation for this poor
girl. If you can offer a foster home or better yet a forever
home for this girl please ask today! Dreia gets around quite
well without her 4th leg...it doesn't seem to slow her down or
bother her at all. Sex:
Female
Breed: GSD mix?
Potential/Ideal Size: 45-50 lbs (small)
History: Owner to Shelter
Description: These four girls (Ellie, Myra,
Kendra, and Trinity) are all 1/2 brothers of Rudi and Sage.
The guy that turned the boys in has now also turned these sweet
girls in as well. The shelter says that the guy is "finally"
getting the GSD mom spayed so that this stops happening...when he
did have the puppies, they were kept 24 hours a day in an outdoor
kennel so are not yet housebroken much less trained in good doggie
house manners. This will change quickly however! We
can't tell you much except what the vet where they are currently
boarded has said - that these girls are timid at first but soon
warm up to you and that they are VERY appreciative of attention
once they get it. They will be with us being Saturday 10/15
and will be ready for adoption then. We will update you
soon. Ellie is the black and tan, Kendra is the sable, and
Myra and Trinity are solid black. We will post better
pictures soon too! :)
Update 10/16: Ellie was the
lucky little girl who got to go into foster when she and her
sisters came in yesterday. Ellie is not only one of the
largest, along with Trinity, but also is the most confident of the
four. She is by no means secure and adventurous but she is
willing to come up to you if you ask nicely and she tried to walk
after a little 4 year old girl she saw today as if she wanted to
go home with her. When the little girl stopped Ellie walked
up and happily sniffed her and introduced herself. Ellie
really looks just like a miniature GSD. She is going to
blossom very quickly being in a foster home too I am sure!
She will do well just about any home being that she is so small
and friendly once she gets to trust you! She would obviously
appreciate having other dogs or kids to play with!
Update 10/19: Ellie is the
greatest. I am sure every foster parent says that, but she really
is. We bring her out with us all the time and EVERYONE comments on
how cute she is and how good she is. Ellie is a VERY docile dog. I
brought her to my little sister’s high school field hockey game
where probably about 20 girls were petting her and, although a
little timid, she did great. I then brought her to my mother’s
house where there are 4 cats. Ellie behaved perfectly; she didn’t
chase or bother them at all.
