DESCRIPTION: Joy is a petite and pretty little girl. Right
now she is a little confused, and understandably so, about
all the changes that have happened to her so suddenly.
She is a little nervous, but sweet, and seems so eager
to please. She spent the whole afternoon in the
company of a volunteer, just hanging out and walking around,
being petted and loved on. It took her awhile, but
she did relax and enjoyed all the attention that she was
getting. It seems she probably was not treated the
best and so she is a little unsure, but once you gain
her trust and remain calm and she comes to realize she
has nothing to fear. She is a delightful little
girl who with time and patience and a great deal of love
will become a marvelous little companion.
Update: Joy has adjusted
quite well to her foster home. She has been practicing
her manners and walking skills, and with a little reminder
from time to time will pretty much stay right by your
side during a walk. She loves to romp and play in the
yard, is very friendly and gets along well with the other
animals at her foster home. She is a little shy at first,
but quickly warms up to new friends (humans and animals)
and is very affectionate and loyal. Joy lives up to her
name!!!
Update: Joy is a perfect
"compact model" shepherd. Joy allowed herself
to micro chipped over this past week, showing how much
her confidence and trust have increased since she first
came to MAGSR. (At first she was scarred of pets, now
she seeks them out!) If you are looking for a companion
dog who is intelligent, loyal and barrel chested, yet
isn't big enough to hog the couch, ask to meet Ms.Joy!
(But be warned, she may hog your lap)
DESCRIPTION: Shasta is a sweet young thing who
is probably GSD/border collie mix but that's a guess.
She is very petite, about the same size as the boys and
she's around 6 month old. Shasta thinks she a gazelle
as she runs and jumps around the yard. She gets very frustrated
since Bert and Ernie refuse to be herded. All are lovely
pups just wanting homes of their own.
Update: Shasta is one
wonderful dog wrapped up in a smaller package! She is
all of 40 lbs but she plays with 3 GSD's as if she was
one of them. She has the full run of our house and is
housebroken and crate trained.
She loves the baby pool and running around the yard playing
tag or chasing the ball! She absolutely loves to snuggle
and sits for treats! Her leash manners aren't perfect
but she willingly and gently lets my 3 year old granddaughter
walk her around the back yard! ( I regularly receive calls
from my granddaughter asking if I can bring Shasta over
to play!) She will be a great jogging partner and, with
her sweet & affectionate
personality, the type of dog you can take anywhere anytime!
Ask to meet her!

DESCRIPTION: Sassy was reluctantly surrendered
to the shelter by a homeless man that was living in his
car with her and a mini dachshund. The little dog was
Sassy's pal and she was very gentle with him. Sassy was
a shelter favorite and has a great temperament --- even
though she misses her person and wants to be part of a
family again. She loves to climb on furniture and in the
picture above has chased the office chair around until
it was stationary enough in a corner for her to climb
on! She will make a great pal for watching those football
games! Sassy also loves tennis balls and will pounce on
them and fling them around when she sees one -- kinda
plays ball all by herself. She would love a person to
teach her to fetch! She has one flopped over ear which
is the result of a hematoma -- and may or may not stand
up again on its own. It lends a certain special air to
her, don't you think? Sassy, is a special girl, looking
for a forever home! She is sweet and friendly and so willing
and eager to learn how to be the best dog that you ever,
ever had! Ask to meet Sassy!
Update: Sassy has been working hard on her manners and now takes treats gently and even sits when she's told! She has adorable curly hair on her back and loves to splash in the pool! She preferred not to walk up the big hill at the kennel today, and dragged our volunteer back to the pool! She's a big girl but she's learning to walk nice on a leash. Ask to meet her today!

DESCRIPTION: Meet Duke - one of the Puppies in a Box! He is a a cute (very cute) and sweet young man now looking for a loving forever home. He and his sister, Daisy were rescued from their owner who was giving away a litter of puppies in front of a local Petsmart! Can you imagine? Daisy and Duke are very lucky little pups indeed! Duke is everything that you imagine a puppy to be....he is loving and sweet, cuddly and cute, impish and trusting - and a true little boy -- :) He will need a family to commit to his welfare and well being for about 12 - 15 years. Adopting a puppy is a very serious thing.....it is not to be taken lightly. Puppies are a lot of work, but oh, the rewards are amazing! This cute and rolly -poly little bundle of fur will blossom right before your eyes! He is safe now in a wonderful foster home with a very large fur brother and some fur sisters, and some kids, too along with a very proud foster mom. Will update soon.
DESCRIPTION: Meet Buzz! Buzz is a brand new pup -- just arrived in these parts of town -- looking for a permanent place to settle down. He is a young, good looking and very friendly boy who just found himself on hard times and.....whoops, in the shelter he landed! Buzz is that type of dog that would do anything for his people! Yup, he would follow them to infinity and beyond! :) He is friendly, smart, and right now very playful...and needs just a bit of training to be that perfect Mr. Family Pet. Buzz is waiting to share adventures with you! Ask to meet Buzz!
Update: Buzz came to his new foster home on Wednesday. He was welcomed by a few teenagers, a lovely 4 year old female GSD and a cat. After a little exploration which included an introduction to stairs (he was a bit nervous with these), Buzz found a Nyla bone and proceeded to make himself at home. Buzz knows the outdoors is for potty visits but needs a little practice at telling his foster mom when it is time "to go". So far there has only been one 'piddling" accident. Buzz sleeps well thru the night and has learned that his foster sister goes straight to the back door first thing in the morning and out to the yard for her morning "business". He has caught on quick to 'follow the leader". The cat was a bit scary at first-his hissing caused Buzz to drop to the floor instantaneously. Since then Buzz has been trying to figure out just how close he can get and still be safe. When his foster mom tells him "no", be happily jaunts off to find someone else to play with. Buzz is a VERY friendly boy that loves human attention. He is eager to please, smart and catching on fast to the house rules.
DESCRIPTION: This is a story of rescue. It truly embodies what
rescue is all about. From the neighbors who noticed the
plight of these two dogs, to the animal control officers
who impounded them and notified MAGSR, to the volunteers
at MAGSR who took these dogs in,-- this is rescue. The
story of Lady and Shana has a horrible beginning, a hopeful
middle and a potentially wonderful end! These two dogs
-- at one time beautiful German Shepherds, spent their
entire lives tied outside, exposed to the elements, most
times without adequate shelter and sometimes without food
or water until finally their horrible, deteriorating condition
was noticed and the authorities were alerted. Lady and
Shana have been denied the love and warmth and interaction
of a loving family. They have had no walks, ball playing,
hikes and treats; no soft beds and family cuddles and
romps in the backyard. They have been almost totally ignored
for almost all of their time here on earth. How sad. How
cruel. Both dogs have suffered, in addition to the obvious,
emaciation and neglect, from Sarcoptic mange which has
been successfully treated, but has left both dogs with
open sores and almost hairless bodies. They are really
literally hairless! Really! :) And we have come to affectionately
call them our "Bare Naked Ladies". Despite all the trauma
that they have been through, these beautiful souls are
just about the most loving and affectionate dogs you could
meet. They long for a kind word and the human touch. They
are remarkably social, given that they were not socialized
very much at all -- they are just very, very sweet and
special ladies!
UPDATE: Lady continues to do well
in her new foster home. She joined us around the end of
March, and so far, has adjusted very well to her new routine.
Although she may miss being with her sister, Lady has
a resiliency that protects her, and allows her to adjust
easily to new surroundings and new routines. She hasn't
missed a beat since coming to live with us.
I can report that Lady is fully housebroken (no accidents
in the house since joining us), crate-trained, and easy
to care for. She takes no medications or any other special
treatment and her only "meds" are supplements to boost
her immune system and promote a healthy coat. Her haircoat
is just about grown in now, and a few more weeks
we should see her full coat in full bloom. She's a lovely
dark sable color, mostly black with some brown and silver
- very pretty! Her tail still needs its plume, but that
will come with time too. She's a very healthy 75 lbs.
now, and will try to maintain that weight. Lady attends
basic obedience training each week and has impressed all
with how quickly she picks up new commands, and how much
she wants to please. She is easy to train.
Lady would love a home with adults or older children -
she loves company and adores meeting new people, showering
everybody with kisses and kindness. She's not a high-energy
or high-maintenance dog and while she likes walks and
likes to play with her toys for awhile, she's not demanding
and tires after a little while. Then, she just wants to
be with you, sit by your side while watching television,
or "help" you with your computer work. She rarely barks,
and only appropriately, if there's somebody outside, etc.
She loves a good backrub in the spring grass and prefers
to be outside with her family. Basically, she just wants
to be a part of your life.
Lady has come a long way from the broken, emaciated dog
who entered the rescue, and she deserves a loving home
and family, and a second chance to find them. Please consider
Lady - she's waiting patiently to meet you!
Please check out our BLOG so you can keep updated about their progress.
Update: Lady continues to
live with us this late Spring, waiting for her forever-home.
She is a patient, loving dog with many qualities that
endear her to her people. She continues in her 100% compliance
record of NO ACCIDENTS in my home! – for a dog held out
on a chain for so many years, this truly amazes me. And,
she’s been to several meet/greets and loves to meet new
people of all ages, showering everyone with kisses. Lady’s
coat is just about grown in now, and she only lacks the
full plume of her tail to make her GSD appearance complete.
Looking at her this morning, I can see it won’t take long
for that to develop. She had her first (from me) grooming
session with a brush this past weekend, and loved the
attention, twisting herself every-which-way to hit all
the “right” spots! Lady loves her squeaky toys, balls
especially, and will bring one to me each evening for
a game of fetch. When she’s tired of running (that doesn’t
take too long!), she will sit beside me, happily squeaking.
She loves to be with her people, and is very non-demanding
of attention – just being with you is enough for her.
She loves her crate – will happily go there when I say
the word – but likely doesn’t really need one. Lady is
well past the chewing/shredding/destructive stages that
dogs go through, and is an easy dog to live with. Lady
would love a quiet place to call home, with a family to
love and be a part of. She’s a good girl, just waiting
for a good home. Please consider making her a part of
your family – she’s waiting to meet you!
Update 06/23: It's summertime... and the livin' is easy..." Lady welcomes in the summer months in her foster home, and hopes that this is the season when she finds her "forever home". Life is easy and laid back for her, especially in the summer months, and she's enjoying the extra daylight hours she gets to spend with her foster family. Life is good... very good!
Lady has been to several meet/greets and events, and enjoys meeting new people and animals. She says hello to all with dog kisses, and hasn't met a stranger yet. Young, old, and in-between, Lady shows everyone her sweet personality. Lady has been fully indoctrinated into my animal-family now (we've proceeded slowly with this, more a function of my younger dogs' enthusiasm and boisterous play) and loves her foster dog-brothers. Although she doesn't often play with them, she enjoys their company when hanging around the house and yard. When she tires of their antics, she will retreat to her crate and just rest awhile - they seem to know that it's her "down time" and leave her alone, without interference from me. Life is good... very good!
Lady was recently given a new baby pool and I took advantage of the recent hot weather to introduce all the dogs to it. While my boys just wanted to bark at/drink out of the "big water bowl", Lady walked in freely and proceeded to circle around and drink buckets of water to cool herself off! She seemed to know the pool was for her. When she had enough, she exited the pool, shook herself dry, and laid down in the shade on her beach blanket. Life is good.... very good!
Lady continues to be the model house-dog... housebroken, crate-trained (although she likely doesn't need one), and quietly non-demanding. She has no accidents, even though I am at work most of the day, and waits patiently to go for walks. She rarely barks, only with good cause, and never whines. Lady needs very little in the way of exercise and stimulation - she prefers a quiet lifestyle with good company and family around. She enjoys her squeaky ball games, but will happily entertain herself with her toys if you are busy. Lady just wants to be nearby, and to feel included in her family's life.
Although Lady enjoys her life at my home, her heart's desire is for a home of her own, at long last, with a family who will never give up on her. She promises undying love, devotion, lots of kisses and companionship, and to never give up on you either. Please consider Lady for your next family member - she promises that your life together will be good... very good!
Update: Lady is back with her foster family after a short “visit” with her dog-sister. Although Lady and Shana love each other dearly (really, they do!), they are, after all, girls and possessive of their people and treats. With her typical resiliency and flexibility, Lady has moved on and is once again in search of her forever family, a family to love her and care for her, through thick and thin, sickness and health (‘til death do we part!).
Lady hasn’t missed a beat since returning to my home. She reentered into our routine without a backward glance, and our routine is very different than the one she had become accustomed to. This speaks volumes to this older dogs’ ability to adjust and cope with change. My two boys, both GSDs, welcomed her back with lots of tail wags and sniffing; she returned the same to them. She has stepped back into our routine of quiet days, with more activity at night when I come home from work. Once again, she impresses me as a model house dog – no accidents, no anxious activity when in her crate, no whining, and little barking. Lady still greets with the same warm welcome when I come home from work – lots of dog smiles and kisses, and a request to be outside for a bit. Then, she’ll bring her favorite squeaky ball (the purple one, if you please) to me for a couple games of throw/fetch/return. When she tires of this, she’ll just keep the ball with her while I’m reading the mail, working on the computer, or catching up on home projects, happily squeaking by my side. She is quiet and non-demanding of attention, and just prefers to be with her family. Lady also enjoys your company watching TV at night, or doing outside yard work. She just wants to be nearby. Lady seems to get along fine with my boys and may be best suited as the only female dog or the top female dog – she prefers to be the matriarch of the pack.
I learn more about Lady with each new experience, and she teaches me a lot too – fortitude to get through the tough times, willingness to flex with changes in life, and patience to wait for the right move. Lady is stepping up to the challenge – are you the right move for her now? (She hopes “Yes!”)

DESCRIPTION: Until very recently Sable had it all
-- A lovely home, a family, a yard -- life was pretty
good! Then things changed and took a turn for the worse!
Sable was basically ignored over time and became very
anxious and bored. Sable was returned after three years
in her adoptive home for what is essentially destructive
behavior associated with anxiety due to separation and
being left alone for long periods of time. Her former
owner said she was digging her way out of a fenced yard
"daily". She had resisted being crated and so was being
locked in the laundry room for unknown and apparently
long periods of time. Needless to say, she tried to escape
and tried to scratch and chewed her way out. The fact
that she was in this home for three years -- that the
owners had had this beautiful and gentle dog for three
years and had not had her shots updated or had her to
a vet since her original intake three years ago speaks
volumes. Sable is a lovely lady. She is gentle and a little
confused and unsure, but she is obviously a very nice
dog. She is accustomed to people, rides beautifully in
a car, is calm and sweet and is just aching to have a
home again. She lived with a child of 13. Sable would
love to be your companion and take those long walks and
listen to what you have to say. She would probably do
best with a family where there is someone home most of
the day. Her separation issues can be dealt with successfully;
they just require patience and the return of her trust
and confidence in her people. Ask to meet Sable, she is
one terrific dog!

DESCRIPTION: Suzie
is one of our very special dogs that had been with us
for a while before she was adopted, and we all thought
that she had found her forever home. Recently, Suzie
was returned to us through absolutely no fault of her
own, and she is now looking for a perfect home to settle
her pretty paws for life! She has her likes and
dislikes, as do most girls who are particular! :)
Suzie loves to run with the big dogs! She really,
really does! She loves the water; she loves to swim,
roll, and splash in it. And she will play with the
water if you squirt her with a hose! She loves
balls and frisbees -- she loves to run and play.
She is not so much high energy as she is just an athletic
and energetic girl. She does need to brush up on her training,
but she promises to be a great student and make her family
very proud. Suzie would be a great dog for a single
person, for just a couple, or for a family with children.
She is cute and friendly and eager to make that lifetime
commitment. Ask to meet Suzie in person and shake
her paw! You will be impressed at what a lovely girl she
is.
Update: Suzie Q is a
spectacular girl. She wakes up every morning with her
tail wagging and giving each of us her special kisses
to start our days off right. Her zest for life is truly
amazing. She is the happiest dog you will ever meet. Suzie
loves to play with her BFF Pahana and boy can the two
of them cause a ruckus. Playing ball, taking long walks,
and going for a ride in the car are a few of Suzie’s favorite
pastimes. She also has the amazing ability to amuse herself
while I am either cooking dinner or helping the kids with
homework. Suzie is extremely smart and will adjust quickly
in her new home. Ask to meet Suzie - she will make you
smile.
Update: SPLISH, SPLASH-
It's almost summer and Suzie Q is a summertime girl. She
absolutely loves the water and can't wait to lounge out
by the pool. She loves splashing around in her pool or
just running through the sprinkler- doesn't matter to
her just as long as there is water. Suzie is an easy going
girl who loves to have her belly rubbed, is great with
kids of all ages, and gives kisses to everyone she meets.
Ask to meet Suzie- she will melt you heart and kiss your
blues away.

DESCRIPTION: Rico is a new guy in town...just
ambled in to see if he could find a game to join in on, maybe
a nice home, new friends, some food, tasty treats, soft bed,
clean sheets, fresh water. He
would love to learn new tricks, go for long walks, cuddle
on the couch, play fetch -- fetch whatever you want -- slippers,
balls, frisbees, newspapers, the family cat, you name it!
He really wants to please. Rico was walked by a kitty at the
vets and while the kitty expressed her displeasure in no uncertain
terms and hissed and spat, Rico shook his head and backed
up about 5 feet, leaving this noisy hissing, spitting creature
alone. Rico walks well on the leash -- does not really pull
- hard :), but he will need a refresher in training -- but
hey, training is just another way to hang out with his people!
He's gonna love it and do well!. Rico really deserves another
chance at the good life. He is a good looking guy, and he
is a good fella just waiting for you.
Update:
Rico is an energetic guy -- not too big -- but with a very
big bark when he is happy! He was so very excited to finally
be here! Way better than that old shelter, yes sir! He has
to brush up on, (or learn) :D his leash manners, but is he
ever eager! He is such a willing pupil, and smart, too. Rico's
coloring is a very beautiful deep red and black. He loves
to run and play, loves people and gets along with other dogs.
Ask to meet our charming Mr. Rico!
