FINALLY GOING HOME!
Donation receipts available upon request. Adopted 12/31/11! Sex: Female Good With Kids: Yes DESCRIPTION: Sierra is the mother of Chip, Kringle and Butter.
She was the mother of 9 puppies. She is a wonderful gentle
friendly girl that is very unsure of her surroundings. She
is petite, walks good on a leash but does not know any commands.
It is believed that she was used as a breeder dog. Sierra
is good with other dogs. Sierra is scheduled for her spay
next week (11/30) at which time we hope to have her in a foster
home for her recovery. If you are looking for a gentle low
key girl please ask to meet Sierra today. You will not be
disappointed! Update: Sierra was very frightened in a kennel environment, so much so we had to carry her past the other dogs. She has been in foster for two weeks. She has been the perfect house guest. She is very well mannered and has been a joy to have in our home. She is housebroken and will let you know if she needs to go outside. She sleeps through the night without a peep. She has just been one of the easiest fosters. She loves attention and willingly stays by your side as company. She is great with all dogs, big and small, kids and so gentle with cats. She is learning to walk on a leash. She walks better next to another dog and picks up very quickly. She loves to play with balls, run with other dogs and chase squirrels. She is a petite girl weighing at 45lbs. Sierra would fit into any home. Adopted 12/31/11! Sex: Female Good With Kids: Yes DESCRIPTION: Salem is a sweet, gentle girl who ended up in a shelter
when her family could no longer care for her. A shelter can
be a scarey place for a girl like Salem, all of the noise
and commotion, being in a strange place was quite upsetting
to her. When first meeting her in the shelter she was shy,
timid and nervous but once she was outside away from all of
the noise she was more at ease and relaxed, snuggling in close
for pets, giving tail wags and kisses. We were so happy that
we were able to get Salem out of the shelter and into our
care. Salem is not a high energy girl, she walked nicely on
the leash and seems to be easy going and laid back. If you
are looking for a new BFF, a snuggle buddy, a dog to go on
leisurely walks with then Salem is your girl. Ask to meet
Salem to see if she is the right fit your family, she will
lavish you with gentle kisses and be forever grateful. Adopted 12/31/11! Sex: Female Good With Kids: Yes DESCRIPTION: This little girl's name is Marley. She was rescued from death
row by MAGSR with her two sisters, Mandy and Mindy.
Please remember that these girls are just puppies and will
need a lot of patience and time to learn everything they need
to know to become wonderful family members. If you are
interested in adopting 1 of these 3 pups please contact us. Adopted 12/31/11! Sex: Male Good With Kids: Yes Description: Simon is looking to move on with his life and settle
into a new home with a loving family. You see, he
has not had the best of care over the years but he has put
that behind him now and is enjoying the good life in a wonderful
home. He is a friendly, sweet, and gentle boy that
enjoys the company of other dogs - as long as he is properly
introduced. A nice walk along side a new dog and Simon
is ready to enjoy their company. He walks nicely on
a leash. Please consider opening your heart and home
to Simon. He will be forever grateful and will be a loyal
and loving companion. Watch for updates from his foster. Update: Some call me
a gentle giant, but to my foster family I am just Simon,
a very sweet mature gentleman who has seen hard times and
right now is not feeling 100%. When I arrived, my sad face
said it all, I had lymes, garida, tape worms, ear and skin
infections and the big one ...heartworms. I was very sad
and depressed, didn't want to eat or to be part of anything,
I would just go off by myself and rest. Wel,l I am happy to report that I am now
on the mend after starting treatment for all of the above.
My whole outlook has changed and I am feeling better now
that my pretty lady vet gave me meds for those things that
were making me sick and my foster mom is cooking special
meals for me which taste great. While I still do need to
rest, I now hang out with the rest of my foster pack and
even slowly wag my tail when my foster mom comes home in
the evening and "smile" at her. I am quiet and
respectful to my fur siblings and we "hunt" deer
together. This "hunt" consists of my catching
the scent of the deer that are so prevalent in the woods
surrounding our home, alerting the others to their presence
then rushing to the fence to let those deer know that 5
shepherds live here and trespassers - especially the furry
critter type- are highly discouraged. No kitties live here
but if they did, I most likely would chase them too, although
my foster mom can't believe I would hurt one. Of course,
my rushing anywhere is highly discouraged because of my
heartworms; I am undergoing preliminary treatment now in
preparation for possible stronger meds in about 3 months.
This is why I am marked "Not Yet Available for Adoption"
but am well worth waiting for so keep me in mind if you
arev not quite ready to adopt. Adopted 12/31/11! Sex: Male Good With Kids: Yes DESCRIPTION: Glen
and his female friend Cara are the parents to Viper, Timber,
Tootsie and Trixie. They had not had the best of care
in their former home which is why they ended up in the care
of animal control, but life has changed for this entire
family now that they are safe with MAGSR. Glen is
big strong boy, he is friendly and enjoys the company of
people. He is so inquisitive with all that is
around him, sniffing and checking everything out.
It is like he has not seen much of the world and wants to
take it all in. Glen would enjoy a family who will
take him for walks, provide good nutrition, lots of love
and training. As to meet this big boy to see if he
is the right fit for your family. UPDATE: Glen is now living in a foster home. His foster family says he is a star athlete and a fantastic fetcher. He is a super fun, fast dog and they have never seen a faster, more ball driven dog. Glen sleeps through the night in the bedroom and will let you know if he needs to go outside. Glen has been making new canine and feline friends everywhere he goes Glen is a super boy and he would do best in a home that could provide him with the vigorous exercise he loves. Adopted 12/31/11! Sex: Male Good With Kids: Yes DESCRIPTION:
Desmond's non-fur mom is deploying and was not able to find
anyone to take Desmond. Wanting to help not only Desmond
but also one of our Soldiers who is sacrificing everything
for our country, Desmond is now with MAGSR. Desmond
gets along well with other dogs of all sizes, he has enjoyed
trips to the dog park to play with his fur friends.
Desmond is also friendly with all people that he meets,
but we feel he would be best suited for a family with older
children as Desmond is a big bouncy boy who may inadvertently
knock little ones down. Desmond does know some of
his basic commands but still has a lot to learn, nothing
that a good training program with his new family won't help
with. Desmond would love to have a new home and family
to share his life with...if you are interested in meeting
Desmond please set up an appointment. Adopted 12/09/11! Sex: Male Good With Kids: Yes - older
only Description: Bandana
once had a family of his own but his family felt that their
home was too hectic for Bandana so they surrendered him to
a shelter. Bandana can become anxious around young,
rambunctious children so a home with older children is recommended.
He is very smart and would do best with a family that will
give him the physical and mental exercise he requires.
He knows sit, come and down, so training will be a breeze
for this boy, he will be sure to make you the star of the
class. He is great around other dogs both big and small.
He is curious about cats but does not chase them. He
loves to roll over for belly rubs As Bandana is new to us we will post updates
once we have gotten to know him better. Update: Bandana is a sweet, loyal
boy who wants to please you. He is house trained, walks wonderful
on a leash and is loyal to his human family, He will do great
in a home with no kids or a quiet environment, He makes for
the perfect companion!! He lays and loves when you rub his
belly! He is a charmer for sure, He has captured my heart
with those beautiful brown eyes. He did venture into the trash
can (the smells were to tempting) but on correction, has shown
that he understands his boundaries. He is still shy and somewhat
unsure, but when he decides to trust you, he loves you!! He
follows me around all day, just happy to be with me, When
he walks his right ear flops and is just to darn cute, He
has shown interest in playing with Nicki, my female GSD, yet
still stays back and watches. My cat brushes up against him
and they get along great. No signs of aggression toward her
at all. Maybe Bandana thinks he is a cat!!! He has been with
me for a week now, and is coming along wonderfully, I know
in time, he will show his true perfect self!!! For now, he
is very content to just watch, follow and please. What a great
dog he is!!!! Update: Hello everybody,,,Bandanna
AKA Danny here. I've been living in my new home
with my foster family for a whole month now and I am one
happy dog!! I listen really good says my foster
Mom and have excellent manners. I have settled in nice
and just love everyone!! I am a big boy and am
very, very strong. I still have a long road to go per
Mom but I know in the end, I will make everyone proud. I am
smart, loyal and love to be a part of the pack. I even
have a foster cat sister who rubs up against me all the time.
That's neat that she trusts me like that. I must be
pretty big in her eyes. I would never hurt her though.
My dog sister Nicki and I get along very good now. Today,
for the first time ever, we ran around in the yard and played!
My Mom cried b/c it made her so happy. Me and Nicki
are buddies now and just want to hang out. I know I have
come a long way, and am eager to continue to show her just
how much more wonderful traits I have. I didn't want
to show off to much at first...if you know what I mean!
Mom keeps saying that she believes in me, while kissing
my head all the time. Well, jeez, that's all I need to
hear. I WILL show the world just how much of a
good boy I am!! Anyway, time to go eat and then probably
take a walk around the school and then....you get the point.
Woof and lots of licks and tail wags to ya!! Adopted 12/30/11! Sex: Female Good With Kids: Yes DESCRIPTION: This little girl's name is Mindy. She was rescued from death
row by MAGSR with her two pups, Mandy and Marley. Mindy is
a girl who has been there done that and would like nothing
more than to settle down into a home with a new family who
will provide her with a lifetime of care and love. Mindy is
very affetionate and loves belly rubs. UPDATE: Miss Mindy is such a sweet girl,
so gentle and polite! Her confidence is building day by day,
and she seems to be really settling in and feeling comfortable
here with us. However, she went to the vet for a more comprehensive
exam, and the results of her blood work finds that she has
heartworm, which is very common in the area she came from.
Fortunately the vet says the test results suggest she seems
to have a relatively new infection that should respond to
treatment without too much risk of complications. Mindy will
be on crate rest for about 6 weeks after her treatment, until
she is clear of the heartworm infection. Please keep this
sweet little dog in your thoughts as she works through the
next few difficult weeks. Adopted 12/28/11! Sex: Female Good With Kids: Yes DESCRIPTION: This little girl's name is Mandy. She was rescued from death
row by MAGSR with her two sisters, Mindy and Marley. Mandy
is very shy but lights up when she's around other dogs and
cats. She doesn't know how to walk on a leash but we are working
on it. She is very unsure of her surroundings but is learning.
She sleeps through the night without a peep and does not mind
her crate. She is just starting to play with toys. She is
quick to steal a toy from her foster friends and loves her
stuffed puppy kong. Puppies are a huge commitments that take
a lot of time and patience to help insure they grow into a
confident well balanced dog. If you are ready for this commitment
please ask to see Mandy. Adopted 12/26/11! Good With Kids: Older DESCRIPTION: Look at this little, ornery, cutiepie. Shelly is
48lbs of pizzazz, personality, love, "some" obedience
and an appetite for all that is new to her. She's approximately
18 months old. While Shelly is not 100% housebroken yet, she's
close. She LOVES other dogs and it would be in her best interest
to be in a home with another dog. Shelly is your typical happy-go-lucky
pup who loves to explore and learn about her world around
her. She is a smart girl and is up for most anything new.
She's very food motivated and loves to be near her foster
family. Where they go, she's sure to be very close in proximity.
She bonds very quickly. Her ideal family would be one that
is active, outgoing, willing to attend training and keep up
with her socialization on their property as well as off premises.
Socialization at a young age is ultra-important for any large,
powerful breed. This is so that later in life, when they have
grown to be much larger, they have been properly socialized
and will have good manners in public or when strangers come
to the house. The lack of socialization is a common mistake
that many people make. While she has been a fairly easy foster,
she will require ongoing training to build the proper foundation
for a solid, stable, and bonded relationship. Everyone once
in a while, in her fenced yard, something will catch her eye
or nose and she has a tendency to go exploring. Her adoptive
family needs to be aware of the propensity for any new or
untrained dog to wander or explore. It is her foster Dad's
thought that this is why she was found running astray. She
should not be taken off leash until her recall is rock solid
and training will help with this. UPDATE: Shelly is coming along very nicely. She loves our dogs and is housebroken. Although we need to make it a point to let her go potty right after she eats her meals.
As for her temperment, we have found that she has a lot of energy and a ton of ball drive. Because of her ball drive, she would make a great search and rescue dog. Dogs that have a lot of drive need daily work, both physically and mentally. Otherwise because their switch is always "on", if they don't have that outlet in which to focus their drive, they become frustrated and bored and many times frustrate their people as well if they do not understand the concept of "drive". Her family MUST recognize her needs and learn to work with mother nature and not against it. Shelly is not a couch potato and should not be expected to be as such. With this being said, she can still be sensitive to correction and her family must understand the line between teaching right from wrong vs. becoming frustrated. Because of her sensitivity, she has a keen sense of emotion when with her family.
Shelly is a fantastic dog and if you are looking for a partner with which to train and possibly do search and rescue, she could be a shining star. Adopted 12/24/11! Sex: Male Good With Kids: Yes DESCRIPTION: Jack is a handsome, young,
exuberant boy who is still all puppy. Jack is in need of
training, but with his smarts he will make you the star
of the class! Training is so very important as it
teaches good manners and helps create a lifelong bond. Jack
would love to be part of an active family that will include
him in their activities, walks, jogs, hiking. Jack is ready
to move on, make himself at home and become a loving member....ask
to meet Jack. UPDATE: Hi! It's me Jack. Just wanted you give you an update on
myself. I heard the MAGSR volunteers talking about me. Well
as you can see by my new picture, I am incredibly handsome
and have the personality to match. I walk very well on a
leash and am easy to get out of my run. I only know the
one command but am trying to learn more. I am a talker just
so you know. Sorry I have a lot to say. If you would like
to meet me make an appointment soon, not sure how long I
will be here with that handsome picture. Adopted 12/17/11! Sex: Female Good With Kids: Yes DESCRIPTION: Adorable Nissa was a stray to the shelter, can you
imagine such a young puppy as a stray...truly sad. Nissa
came into the shelter with an injury to her leg, therefore
she was in need of rescue and immediate medical attention.
Nissa had surgery on 10/31/11 to repair her broken leg and
is now recovering in a loving foster home. Nissa will
be on strict crate rest for the next 6 weeks in order to make
a complete recovery. Everyone who has met Nissa has
fallen in love with her very sweet nature. Please watch
for updates from her foster mom. Nissa's surgery was expensive but worth every
penny. Donations
towards Nissa's medical expenses are greatly appreciated..a
donation to Nissa's care allows us to continue to provide
medical care to other dogs such as Nissa. Adopted: 12/17/11! Although she is frightened she has not shown any signs of aggression..she just wants to hide. Once she is comfortable with her person she bonds tightly and looks to them for security. This poor girl needs to learn about human companionship, love, trust and care. With time and patience Mika will learn all these things and will make a very devoted family member. She was surrendered along with her male sibling and they got along well. When meeting new dogs she is shy and will look to hide behind her handler. Training is so very important for Mika, it will build her confidence and help her to face her fears. Mika will require a quieter, calm household and a family with lots of patience to help her become more confident. At the shelter Mika was so scared that she refused to eat, she would not even take a yummy treat. Hopefully with being in a home with her loving and caring fosters things will settle down and Mika will eat and learn that she has nothing to be frightened of. Watch for updates from her foster. UPDATE: Mika takes time to warm up to people she does not know as she has not had much in the way of human contact or socialization prior to coming to us. She can also be picky about her dog friends and also needs time and proper introductions. Mika will be spending time with our trainer working on socialization and learning to trust. UPDATE: Mika is ready for adoption and she will only be placed in a home with an experienced GSD owner.

Marshall came a long way to join MAGSR and is eagerly awaiting his furever home. Marshall is excellent with all other dogs big and small. He enjoys playing ball and romping with his foster fur siblings. Marshall is house broken and crate trained. He does need to be crated when unsupervised as he is still learning the do’s and don’t of living in a home. He will lick the dishes in the dishwasher as you load, and he will pull anything he can reach off the counter so we are working on those manners… He walks pretty well on a leash although we are still working to improve the finer points of sit and stay… He has been an excellent foster as he is as laid back as they get… He has done excellent with our 8 year old daughter and her friends and all visitors to our home. He isn’t much of a barker actually the only time we heard him bark was a play bark with our little dog. He bonds extremely fast and is content following you around as he wants to be where you are. We found today that he loves sunning himself on the deck. So if you are looking for a great dog that gets along with everything Marshall is your boy. Adopted: 12/4/11! Sex: Female Good With Kids: Yes DESCRIPTION: Holly was surrendered to a shelter, sadly the result of an unwanted litter of puppies. Holly in residing in a foster home, receiving lots of love, care, cuddles and learning house manners. She is crate trained, not one accident and with frequent trips outside to potty she has not had any accidents in the house. Holly loves to cuddle, going for walks and is learning about playing with toys. Holly will need a family with patience as she goes through typical puppy behavior. Everything Holly finds she thinks she should eat or chew on....this is what puppies do, but with proper guidance and training they learn very quickly all they need to know. She is a baby and will require an infinite amount of patience and love, lots of old newspapers, and patient positive training - training is so very, very important - and it can and should begin at a young age for a puppy - just as with a young human child. Please, please do your research before you apply. Be realistic. These cute, fluffy puppies will grow up and become large dogs fast. Please make sure you can make a commitment to a puppy that will last through their entire lifetime - most of which will be as a big dog - they are only cute and little for a few weeks. As with any puppy, they will try your patience to no end. You will spend much more money than you ever intended to spend on a dog, and you will have things chewed, peed and pooped on, and occasionally strange things swallowed with frantic trips to the emergency vet. You will be ready to throw up your hands - many times! However, if provided with love, guidance, training, and vast amounts of patience, they will love you unconditionally and will be your best friend fur-ever. We at MAGSR want to make sure that these little cuties have the best home ever. If you feel that you have what it takes to give that home please contact us. UPDATE: Holly has been in foster with our family for a week now, which has given us sometime to get to know her better. Holly is so very sweet, wanting nothing more than to cuddle and roll over for belly rubs. She continues to do well with her crate, no accidents and sleeps through the night without a peep. She loves to run around and play with toys and enjoys putting them in her water dish and plucking them out again. She walks very nicely on the leash and enjoys going for walks and running around in the fenced in yard. Holly had her first bath which she seemed to enjoy, just sitting pretty while she was being lathered up, rinsed and dried off. She enjoys playing with my 2 large dogs and even my bossy Chihuahua. She has not chewed on any furniture or shoes and seems to understand the difference between what is and isn't hers. Holly is an easy going girl and will make a wonderful family member. mouthy, and is very active yet very trainable. he is very
lovable and wants nothing but to please his people. He is
so very smart and very eager to learn. With the right family
he will be a perfect addition, but needs understanding and

MAGSR for about 3 weeks now, and I can tell you it's been
the best move i've ever made. The volunteers here always
tell me what a good boy I am. I need some training as I've
never had any. I'm getting better walking on a leash, but
am kinda nervous and shy if I don't know you. But if you
spend some time with me, you'll see i'm a big love bug.
I do need to gain some much needed weight, which i'm working
on. I will be the best family member if you only give me
a chance. Training will be perfect as it will secure the

She's a VERY affectionate girl who loves attention and likes cuddling up in your lap if you let her. She was scared to get in and out of the car by herself today but once in she just lay down next to the person sitting by her and went to sleep. She has a great time playing with Frodo once we got to the kennel finally too so would do well with another playful, but fairly gentle dog to play with. She should not live in a house with cats or other small furry creatures however. She can get pretty focused on other dogs playing and will start barking at them to get their attention so that they will invite her to play too but is otherwise quiet and friendly with anyone who wants to meet her. She's a sweetheart who will fit in just about any new home! Update: Melba is one of our most "special dogs". She is very special to a lot of us! In fact, it is pretty common knowledge that she has more fans in the rescue than the average movie star! She has a very distinctive personality to say the least! Melba is the rescues resident Diva and she knows it and she plays it to the hilt. She is a dynamo in a fur coat -- a playful puffball with an attitude. Melba requires strong handling and she is presently undergoing a training program with some of our very dedicated volunteers to help her adjust to the real world! She came back to us with a few more quirks and fears then she had when she left us and we are now working hard to help her overcome all the things that make her less than the perfect little pet she should be. Melba is smart, cute as a button and will steal your heart in an instant. She is not quite ready yet, but hopefully we will have her ready for her forever home soon. Update: Hi! It's me Melba the Diva Princess of MAGSR. Guess what? I am in a foster home now and I am doing very well. I am house and crate trained and I have been very well behaved per my foster Mom. I am living with 3 GSD's, a Husky and 3 kitty cats. I have a very special friend that I made instantly, he is a submissive male GSD/Chow mix. We get along just great. I play a little rough but I am learning. I am making progress with my other fur companions as well. I am training everyday and doing well. I will be ready for adoption in no time. Please keep me in mind. Adopted: 11/25/11! Sex: Female Good With Kids: Yes DESCRIPTION: Butter was surrendered to a shelter, sadly the result of an unwanted litter of puppies. These are babies and will require an infinite amount of patience and love, lots of old newspapers, and patient positive training - training is so very, very important - and it can and should begin at a young age for a puppy - just as with a young human child. Adopted: 11/22/11! Sex: Male DESCRIPTION: Hello, my name is Ben.
My good friends call me Gentle Ben - and I guess it is because
I am. I am not a whippersnapper - rather I am what you might
call a "senior", a "mature" or "older" gentleman. I call
myself a Good Old Dog! :) Seems like my life has had its
ups and its downs...I have spent most of my days roughing
it...mostly an outdoors type of guy; and then one day, my
person gave me to a friend. I was too old, he said....he
did not want me anymore. Well, she had 3 dogs of her own
already and was not fond of having another mouth to feed
so she gave me to a shelter. This was not a good place.
It was cold and noisy and it smelled funny. It made me feel
sad and scared. I got sick. A nice lady told me not to worry,
that there were some people far away that would take me
and get me better and I would never have to worry - I would
be safe and I was going to go home. Well, you see, I had
a home before and it wasn't so hot, so I really did not
know what to expect. Turns out I did not have to worry about
a thing. I am in a wonderful foster home. My foster mom
has treated my very bad cold and I am feeling so much better.
I have a warm bed and good food - and the place doesn't
look half bad! :) There are other fur friends here - I have
seen them in the yard, but have not met them face to face
yet because I was sick. I wag my tail and let them know
that I am just so anxious to meet them soon. There is an
older girl who looks real sweet, a good looking younger
gal who I really want to meet soon, an older gent like me
that I know will be great to pal around with - maybe trade
old war stories - or to play checkers or whatever with; and last there is this real skinny big dog that seems like
a nice friendly fellow, too. I am very content now and starting to feel better and not so sad anymore. I love to play ball
with my foster mom and she tells me that soon I will be
able to go out into the yard and play with the other dogs.
I can't wait! :) If you are ever around these parts, look
me up. I would love to have a game of fetch - a slow game
of fetch - remember, old bones - can't be too rambunctious,
you know. My name is Ben, and I am very happy to be here. UPDATE: Hi Benny here just checking in. I have been in my foster
home for over a month now and I am loving being loved, cuddling
and those back rubs are just heavenly! I live with 4 other
shepherds and other than being a little bit slower than
they are, we all get along very well. Things are laid back
out here in the country which suits me just fine as I love
to just lie on the deck and just watch the other race around
the yard like crazy things...none of that for this distinguished
senior, in my day I could have out run all of them so am
content to just watch and smile and reflect on my memories.
Many people pass over older dogs like me but let me tell
you that senior dogs make excellent matches for those people,
young and old, who can't handle the young bouncy whipper
snappers. All we ask is for a little bit of exercise as
that is good for anyone regardless of your age. Companionship
and love are also high on our wish list but I don't know
of any human who isn't looking for exactly the same thing.
I walk very nicely on a leash and don't need long walks,
just enough to enjoy a few new smells then back home for
a snack, watch the evening news then a nap.....oh the good
life! If this life style suits you too but you don't have
a buddy to share it with I would be more than happy to share
it with you....remember my name is Ben and I am looking
for a person to keep company and love. UPDATE: Benny, whose human age is now 89, is now suffering from
painful arthritis. He has also been diagnosed with spinal
stenosis which means at some point in his life he suffered
disc degeneration which has caused bony spur formations
to develop between each vertebrae causing "bridging" and
in some cases fusing making many regular movements quite
painful. Mornings and damp days are definitely his enemy
and getting moving most mornings causes him to groan and
complain just his elderly human counterparts do. The race
to the door to go first morning potty is a challenge as
Benny's absolute top race speed has been received a "slow
and careful" rating. He tries so hard but on occasions just
can't make it out. We are keeping Benny comfortable with Rimydal and he is
a real trooper, slowly and steadily following us around,
just wanting to be part of the gang. We are still playing
a very limited careful version of catch and our walks are
short but filled with great smells and adventure. He can
no longer do steps, utilizes a ramp outside and waits patiently
for us to return to the first floor inside. Benny is only
a little guy and we would gladly carry him up to be with
us but the pressure on or the twisting of his spine only
causes him more discomfort. This sometimes grumpy little
senior guy with a fondness for snacking on leather, is always
at the door to greet me when I get home from work. I am
always greeted with a big doggy smile and as wagging his
tail hurts, the few wags I do get mean the world to me.
We will continue to adjust our lives and the house to accommodate
his limitations and he will continue to be loved and included
in everything we do as that is his wish. Adopted: 11/20/11 Sex: Male Good With Kids: Yes DESCRIPTION: Maximus
is a big handsome boy in need of a forever family and home.
Sadly his former family had to move and were not allowed
dogs in their new home. Maximus lived with children which
he enjoyed, cats that he liked to play with and another
dog. He enjoys running, toys, takes treats gently and considers
himself a lap dog, yep all 92 lbs of him. Set up an appointment
to meet Maximus, this big handsome fella will be sure to
steal your heart. Adopted 11/18/11! Sex: Male Good With Kids: Yes Description:
Hi Oliver here! I am new to MAGSR and very happy to be here.
I am in a foster home with a great family and have fur siblings
to play with. Wow, am I enjoying life! I have lived with
other dogs and children and got along well with all of them.
I am still a puppy and have a lot to learn but I am so smart
that it won't take me long to catch on. They say I
have to go to training to learn all about good doggie manners
and behavior and that it will help me and my new family
get to know each other better....sounds like fun!
As much as I am enjoying my time in a foster home I would
really like a family of my very own, a place to permanently
rest my paws and to be your best friend. Adopted: 11/14/11 !! Sex: Male Good With Kids: Yes DESCRIPTION: As Heinz is new to us
and has been through a horrific ordeal we are just learning
about him. We will post updates on him and his medical
plight. A desperate plea was sent out for a mutilated GSD
mix in dire need of rescue. Heinz was found wondering
around in very bad shape. His ear was partially cut
off, his tail was cut off and he was blinded. When
the animal control officers were finally able to catch him
it was noted that his wounds were infested with maggots.
We at MAGSR, with the very generous and kind support of
many people were able to take this loving and gentle boy
into rescue. Heinz will be seen by specialists to see if
his ear can be reattached and if there is anything that
can be done to restore some if not all of his eyesight.
Heinz will have the comfort, love and care of a foster home.
Helping dogs like Heinz is only made possible by your generous
donations, please help us help Heinz. Thank you for
your support, we cannot do it without you. Update: Oh I could not wait to share this exciting news. My
stitches were removed from my ear today and everyone says
it looks great. Wow, does it feel good to have them
out and because I was such a good boy when they removed
them I got lots and lots of ear scratches from everyone
at the Vets office and of course from my foster mom.
Now I do not have to listen to my foster mom say "Heinz
stop scratching your ear", "Heinz stop shaking your head",
"Heinz stop wrestling with your brothers" now I can do whatever
I want. Dad tells me I am famous, he saw a MAGSR license
tag on a car in DC so he started talking to the nice lady
and she knew all about me, can you believe that, wow do
I feel special. Thank you to everyone that kept me
in their thoughts and prayers and donated towards the cost
of my care, I never knew that humans could be so kind.
Well, Mom tells me now that I am better I can meet my adoring
public, so watch the events calender to see where I'll be
and come out to meet me. I am now taking appointments
for anyone who might be interested in adopting a very cute,
full of life, loving little famous fella. Update: Heinz is a happy go lucky guy, always ready to explore and
go for a walk. He so enjoys being with people that
his little tail never stops wagging. To see him run
and play with my dogs you would never know he has very limited
vision. He can be bossy with other dogs, especially
dogs that are smaller than him. He respects my GSD,
but does not do well with our little Chihuahua. For
the most part he gets along with our Boxer, but they can
have their moments as our Boxer is not giving up his place
in the pack order. Heinz would make a wonderful dog
for a family that has no other dogs or another large alpha
dog. He loves to cuddle and will seek you out looking
for attention. It is amazing how Heinz is so loving
and trusting of people after all that he has endured.
Heinz so deserves a home and family of his own, one that
is as special as he is. Please give Heinz a chance
to show you that he can do the same things as other dogs
and that his blindness does not hold him back. Are
you that special person Heinz has been waiting for? Update: Heinz here, I am still looking for my special home and family.
Please don't let my eyesight deter you, I run around and
play just like my sighted fur siblings...nothing holds me
back. If you are looking for a boy that loves to cuddle
and will climb in your lap for a snooze and ear rubs then
I am your boy. I love all of the attention I get in my foster
home..my foster mom, dad and my 2 non fur younger siblings
enjoy giving me lots of attention. I am housebroken and
fully crate trained, in fact I love my crate so much that
you will often find me going in to take a snooze. I might
not be as big as your typical GSD in size but I am in spirit.

how much fun I can be. Adopted: 11/12/11! Sex: Female Good With Kids: Yes DESCRIPTION: Tia was found as stray wandering the streets, trying to find a cool place to rest and fresh water to drink. Milo was turned into a shelter as the landlord where he
lived said no dog so Milo had to go. Milo is a very
cute puppy, he adores people - full of tail wags and puppy
kisses. He wants to spend his time in your lap getting
lots of hugs, he enjoys going for walks and loves to around
the yard and wow is he fast. Milo will most likely
be a medium size boy as he has a smaller bone structure.
He rides well in the car and for the most part is quiet
in the crate. Please remember when considering a puppy
that they are active, will chew things they shouldn't and
may have accidents in the house. Training is an absolute
must, as it with all dogs adopted through MAGSR, along with
lots of socialization. They are a joy and a commitment for
many years to come. Ask to meet Milo to see just how

He is a happy go lucky boy, wanting to play with other dogs
and be loved on by his family. As Neal is new to us
we will post updates once we have gotten to know him better. Sex: Male Good With Kids: Yes - older Description:Gunner
may be 5 years old, but don't let his age lead you to believe
that he has slowed down. Actually Gunner has the energy
of a dog much younger, he is very active and will require
a family that will work with his energy. Plenty of walks,
playtime and training will go along way with helping Gunner
keep his energy level in control. Due to his high energy
level we are recommending that Gunner not go to a home with
small children as he may inadvertently knock them down.
A good solid training class will help Gunner learn some
very much needed manners so that he can become a calmer
and happier boy. Gunner certainly requires leadership to
accomplish this. He has lived with children and cats in
his former home. If you are an active family looking for
a new family member to include in your activities, ask to
meet Gunner. Update: Gunner
is a big strong boy that needs a committed adopter to work
on his manners in and outside the home. Gunner knows some
commands but needs a refresher course. He loves to play
ball and has learned to drop it on command. He enjoys playing
in pool with his ball, actually he likes doing anything
that involves a ball. He will need a lot of exercise to
help channel his energy. He is your typical GSD and will
be a star in training class. Ask to meet Gunner today. Update: Gunner
is a big, powerful dog; but he is also obedient, cuddly,
smart and content to do anything that keeps him near people.
If you are an experienced dog owner willing to give him
the attention and discipline that he needs, he will keep
you entertained with his playfulness and big smile. He needs
a family without cats or small children, because he plays
too rough and chases; but he is great with male and female
dogs of all sizes, older kids and all people. Everywhere
we go on walks, people stop and comment on him and want
to pet him - and he greets everyone with kisses and a wagging
tail. Gunner loves to play ball, chew on his toys,
give hugs, nap in his crate, go for long walks and get belly
rubs. He even enjoys getting bathed and brushed. Gunner
is a great all-around dog, and he already knows many commands;
but he will need to continue obedience training with his
forever family to learn that they are in charge of things.
He is very willing to follow instructions; but if
you don't give him any, he can be very creative in making
up his own rules! Adopted 10/30/11! Sex: Female Good With Kids: Yes DESCRIPTION: Ella, sister to Jasmine, was rescued from a NC shelter at the last minute. She is approximately 10 weeks old and full of 'puppiness'. Ella is an exceptionally good puppy who loves to follow me everywhere. She dutifully does her business when taken outside and loves to play with her plush ball, as you can see in the pictures. Ella is a snuggler who can't get close enough to you. She has several dog foster-siblings and has no fear of any of them. When the big kids (Shepherds) go outside, Ella trails behind trying her best to keep up. Ella just had her first round of vaccines. Everyone at the vet's office fell in love with her. She's happy to have you tote her around in your arms, while she learns all about the big world around her. We're working on getting her used to wearing a little collar on her neck, but she's not fond of it right now. She is very vocal when left alone-whether in a crate or just alone in a room. She wants to make sure everyone knows she's unhappy. ADOPTED 10/28/11 Sex: Male Good With Kids: Yes DESCRIPTION: Buster was found as a
stray and taken in by a very caring family in hopes of finding
his family. He is a great boy with a wonderful disposition,
a real cuddle bug. The family that took him in had other
dogs which he enjoyed playing with and has lived temporarily
with cats, he did fine with the cats but wanted to play,
so he should be watched that he does not play too rough
with them. He has the softest furriest coat. This boy has
some energy and would love a family that will spend time
taking him for walks, playing fetch, hiking and would make
a great jogging partner. Oh and training...yes he would
love to attend training..something that is required with
all of the dogs adopted through MAGSR. Training is so very
important..it not only teaches good dog manners but also
helps create a lifelong bond. If you are looking for an
all around great dog then Buster is your boy. UPDATE: Buster is such a wonderful family dog! He will bond very
quickly and deeply to his owner I suspect, as he follows
me everywhere. Buster is a Velcro-dog, and encourages me
to pet him/dote on him whenever he can! We took his introductions
slowly with the resident dogs, but Buster respects them
and I trust them together now. However, when he sees or
hears other (unfamiliar) dogs nearby, he appears to get
nervous (gunt-like whimpers and hackles up). He has displayed
some puppy-like tendencies, as he has chewed several of
my kid’s toys, and he has dug in trashcans. Buster
is waiting for a patient owner who will help him overcome
his anxiety around new dogs… could that be you? Adopted 10/23/11! Sex: Male Good With Kids: Yes Description: Zack is a very well behaved young lad, at 4 months old he
is fully crate trained, housebroken, walks pretty good on
a leash and is already starting to respond to some basic
commands. He is affectionate, people oriented, gets
along well with other dogs and cats. He enjoys
the water and will fetch a ball, bring it back and release
it most times. He seems to have a sound temperament
and a gentle demeanor. Zack is looking for a family
and a home to call his own, somewhere to hang his leash
for the rest of his life. A family that will
love and cherish him, take him to training and make a him
a member of their family. Zack is taking applications
and making appointments to meet this special family...could
that be yours? Ask to meet Zack he is ready and waiting. Update: Zack is 18 weeks old, he was just diagnosed with very bad
hips that pop when he walks or runs. Zack is in need of
special surgery that can correct the problem before total
hip replacement would be needed. Zack will need to have
the surgery immediately, he is scheduled to have his first
of 2 surgeries Friday Aug. 25, 2011 and his second surgery
2 weeks later. Update: Zack came through his first surgery very well. He wants
to thank everyone who helped make this one possible. He
is now on strict crate rest and he is trying so hard to
be a good boy and stay quiet. This is really tough on a
young, naturally bouncy happy puppy but lots of chew toys
and peanut butter/yogurt filled bones are helping. Zack
must have surgery on his other hip in a week but we know
that if he is as good as last time he will come through
this second surgery with flying colors. Zack's surgeries
are costly but will give him back his mobility and return
him to a normal life. Please help us give Zack back the
happy normal life every puppy deserves, sponsor his recovery http://www.magsr.org/magsrfund.htm please specify that your donation is for Zack. Zack sends

We feel so lucky to be here, you see were in a shelter with so many other dogs and are time was running out but MAGSR stepped up and agreed to take us into their care. We are now living with a wonderful mom and many fur fosters also. We are getting lots of attention, love, cuddles, food and comfort. Our foster mom is getting us use to living in a home, teaching us all about manners and the appropriate place to potty. We have so much to learn as we are just puppies, we love to romp and play, check things out..even things that are not ours. We are told we are a lot of work at this age because we have so much to learn and we have lot of puppy energy. We need families that are up to the challenge of raising a pup, a family that will understand that potty accidents will happen, we will chew things we shouldn't, we will run around causing noise and make messes. You will need to have lots of patience and you must take us to training...that sounds like fun. We are ready for families of our very own...could that be you? Ask to meet me or my sister Jill to see how adorable we are for your self. UPDATE: Hi, Jan here. I came to MAGSR with my sister Jill. We didn't come from a very good place and had to spend a week at the doggie hospital. Then our foster mom got us. My sister Jill got adopted in a few days but I'm still waiting for my forever home. I figured I better tell you how wonderful I am 'cause you just might not know. I live in a house with four other dogs and two cats. I love my doggie siblings. We run and play and then we run and play again!!! Mom says I am a perfect example of a puppy. I am very inquisitive and will try to eat almost anything. I have lots of energy, but that is where those other dogs come in handy. Did I tell you we run and play? I don't do anything bad other than regular puppy stuff. I am almost housebroken and sit ever so nicely for treats. My mom took me to a big store so people could meet me and I loved all the hugs and kisses and treats I got. I sleep through the night, but mom usually takes me out once during the night in case I have to go potty. Mom also comes home at lunch time to give me my lunch and let me go potty again. At night and when mom is at work I stay in my own space which is a crate with an x-pen attached. Mom says she is very proud of me because she doesn't have to clean up any potty mistakes. Oh and guess what? I run and play too! I also like quiet time with mom. We just go sit down away from the other animals and I curl up in her lap and get lots of kisses and wonderful tummy rubs. Then I have to run and play. I really love my mom and fur siblings, but would really, really like my own forever home. If you are looking for a super fun, really cute, smart and loving puppy ask to meet me. Gotta go run and play now. He loves the company of other dogs, loves to play with toys,
loves to dig holes and hide under things. Cutest personality

all of the loving he received from the many people that
stopped by to see him. He is very calm for a pup of his

Like all puppies, she tries to eat just about everything, and go potty just about everywhere, but she is a smart little thing and seems to be making progress on the potty frontier. She knows where her “spot” is, and as long as we are paying attention and she gets outside every couple of hours, she does pretty well. She and our adult male GSD get along very well. And Brittney has adjusted quickly to wearing a collar and leash, and loves walks around the block with her canine “uncle.” She really loves to chew on her new toys – almost as much as she loves to chew on the carpet, chair legs, blankets, sticks, dirt, grass, rocks, or anything else she can try to get hold of. So she really keeps us on our toes, and like all puppies requires close supervision at all times. She is happy in her crate, is pretty quiet at night, and generally well-behaved for such a young girl. Like most young creatures she cycles continuously through spurts of exhilarating energy to nap time a number of times each day. Puppies are so engaging and fun, but it is a lot of work having a puppy in the house. The reward is huge, but it takes time, devotion, and patience – in spades – to raise a puppy, full time and forever. Little (for now) Miss Brittney will surely bring a lifetime of joy and companionship to some lucky home ready to make that commitment. Update: It’s been a couple weeks, and Miss Brittney has grown quite a bit. She seems to be very relaxed and confident, and is maturing into a spirited, happy-go-lucky girl so far. She relishes new experiences, and seems happy to go anywhere, and meet just about anyone or anything. Brittney is learning not to pull on the leash, has a pretty good “sit” for a young pup, and is learning her “down” (although it is still spelled “t-r-e-a-t”). She is teething, and wants to pick-up EVERYTHING in her mouth, and can be a bit mouthy with people when she is “wound up,” so she does need full-time supervision and consistent leadership. She is doing well on her housebreaking, but she still needs close attention to avoid accidents. At this stage, Brittney seems like a pup that is just about always ready to go. . . . and go and go and go – like the “Energizer Bunny.” From what we can tell, we guess that she is going to be dog that will do best with an active, athletic lifestyle. So if you also are the sort who is on the move and ready to go, Miss Brittney may be the perfect pup for you! Adopted: 10/09/11 Sex: Female Good With Kids: Yes DESCRIPTION: Cara and her male friend Glen are the parents to Viper, Timber, Tootsie and Trixie. They had not had the best of care in their former home which is why they ended up in the care of animal control, but life has changed for this entire family now that they are safe with MAGSR. Cara is friendly and enjoys the company of people. She is so inquisitive with all that is around her, sniffing and checking everything out. It is like she has not seen much of the world and wants to take it all in. Cara would enjoy a family who will take her for walks, provide good nutrition, lots of love and training. Ask to meet Cara to see if she is the right fit for your family. Sex: Male Good With Kids: Yes DESCRIPTION: Dre was found wondering the
streets in my neighborhood. He was running up to every person
he could see, unfortunately they were running away! Dre
is a very sweet boy that no one has claimed. He is full
of energy and loves to play with other dogs. Dre also likes
to be around his people friends. He is very pleasant and
always wagging his tail. I have yet to hear him bark! He
isn't obedience trained, but is very receptive to direction.
Obedience class should be a breeze for him as he listens
to verbal corrections. Dre is working on crate training,
in the mean time he has been left alone outside of the crate
for several hours and hasn't chewed anything in the house.
He whines when you first leave the house, but calms down
after a while. I can't say enough good things about Dre.
He is very well socialized with dogs and people. ADOPTED 10/01/11! Sex: Male Good With Kids: Yes DESCRIPTION: Buzz is from one of 3 litters of pups MAGSR recently rescued, his sibling is Annie. These pups are lovingly known as our 4 a.m. pups as that is what time they arrived in our care. Our 4 a.m. pups were pulled from a shelter where they did not have much time, nor chance at being adopted due to the overwhelming number of dogs in shelters. They all have wonderful personalities, very friendly and so much want to be cuddled and loved on by humans. Buzz and Annie did not arrive in the best of condition, they are very emaciated, lethargic and not wanting to eat. They are both in the care of a wonderful foster family who is tending to their every need. They are being hand fed every hour, a variety of different foods are being offered in an attempt to get them to eat. Buzz is doing much better than his sister Annie, he is now eating on his own and in a short weeks time has already gained 1 lb. He now has enough energy to play and romp around with the resident big dog. Buzz is now ready to meet potential adopters who are looking for a pup with a charming personality. Ask to meet Buzz, he is ready for his forever home and family. These are babies and will require an infinite amount of patience and love, lots of old newspapers, and patient positive training - training is so very, very important - and it can and should begin at a young age for a puppy - just as with a young human child.
